The result of the first round of the Japan vs US Mecha Fight last night

give it time, the US will turn them into giant masses of terror and destruction while japan uses them more practically for construction

Falcon Punch!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

well they have to start somewhere i mean they did have a 4 foot chainsaw later in the match

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The reality seems more like a regular sized mech fight. I’m sure we’ll get there some day

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This was the most anti climactic event I had ever seen.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

You haven't seen me have the sex.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Needs more Minovsky particles

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

But what is the first gif from? Inquiring minds must know.

The fights will always be fairly predictable/staged until pilot safety is more or less guaranteed. Alternative is remote control/automation.

8 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

I doubt many real improvements will be made until they can actually test to destruction instead of just staging garbage fights.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

ONE PUNCH!!!!!!!

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

100 pushups, 100 situps, 100 squats robot

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

MKIII was the real show this was just for lols. Tore the red bot to pieces.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

you people need to stop having high expectations

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

MINOVSKY PARTICLES

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I knew it wouldn't be like super amazing but by god am I excited to see where these go.

8 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

If they keep up the fakeness not far....

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Watch the whole video. The other rounds with the other American bot are more fun.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

They should have regulations so they both have similar stabilities so they can damage each other more without falling

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't even like mecha anime but aldnoah zero and eureka seven had some pretty cool fight scenes and story!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

"that one is for hiroshima"- red robo pilot

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Does anyone else REALLY hope they make a remastered (NOT 3d) version of One Must Fall 2097 some day? Still the best robot tournament ever.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Agreed. It's also one of the few shareware games where I bought the full version.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was hoping the Japanese bot would just clothsline the other bot.

8 years ago | Likes 110 Dislikes 2

Me too. I think that would have been at least a little more entertaining than just being a battering ram.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

More force in a swing + run then just a run. Not to mention the leverage disadvantage.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Honestly the red one was going to win anyways thanks to it having far more maneuverability.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

The fight against the newer American robot, Eagle Prime, was much better.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You mean a load of countering bullshit specifically against the Japanese mech.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

So Japan won then

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They won round 1, but that was against the old US bot. Round 2/3 the newer bot crushed the JP one.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Let's shoot a dogeball at it, that will work against an armored mech.

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 2

Dude in red kinda looks like Lawrence

8 years ago | Likes 98 Dislikes 1

lawdawg is da dawg

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Lawrence would totally pilot the Japanese mech though.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Is that 2016's quintessential gamer?

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

So weird to see him like this, I went to highschool with him.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Always upvote Lawrence/ Funhaus. ALWAYS.

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Funhaus reaction gifs are on the rise INVEST NOW!

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

They call him Lawrence Sakamoto.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Well excuuuuuse me, Princess. You do know that there's a whole host of incredibly complex engineering problems in the way of creating mechs?

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

I mean for starters, tanks are better. The one setting I found that justified bipedal mechs was Warhammer. 1.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Bipedal mechs were designed for the frontier, dual industrial/military usage specifically, during the dark age of technology. 2.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And considering they could have both tools and almost star-ship grade weaponry mounted on them... 3.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Tanks are better if you're looking to see an actual combat operation. Giant robots are flashy and cool and fun to watch, which was the point

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That was round 1. Then we brought out the bot actually MADE to counter Kuratas and we WON!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

"We"

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We being USA

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Eagle Prime was enormous, and Kuratas had only been customized to battle Iron Glory. Kuratas deserved that first fight.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I agree with the Twitch commenters who said that there should be weight classes haha.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh yeah it was a good fight all around from both of them.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I seriously don't know what you guys expected. This was the FIRST fight, just wait for a few more hundreds of fights and it will develop (1)

8 years ago | Likes 393 Dislikes 7

That was just the first round. Round 2 was more exciting. They put on some theatrics for the final round. It was still fun.

8 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 1

They installed friggin paintball guns on the silly thing. They themselves didnt expect anything from it either

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well, they can't use real bullets because people are inside them.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I get that, but why put any of that crap on it in the first place?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We expected something that wasn't so grossly scripted.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was just hoping it wouldn't turn into scripted 'murica garbage. Too much to ask.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

a shit load of brain cancer and cookies (2)

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

enough to be even more exciting. These things take time, don't expect to a fully developed AI-controlled robot to come out of nowhere (2)

8 years ago | Likes 135 Dislikes 6

and fight each other until one is shattered to pieces. (3/3)

8 years ago | Likes 79 Dislikes 3

So were you driving the American or the Japanese robot?

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Feels like nobody understood this with UWM either.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

i was excited. a mech had a giant chainsaw and was trying to cut into another mech. THERE ARE PEOPLE INSIDE!

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I KNOW RIGHT!

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

they need to have the pilots feel pain

8 years ago | Likes 65 Dislikes 12

Just get in the damn robot, shinji!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No. Because then the mechs would look like the michelin and stay puft marshmallow men and that would look stupid.

8 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 3

He's referring to anime, where the pilot feels pain when the robot gets punched. It's great TV!

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

I seem to remember that the pilots did feel pain.

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Think they had that in "Exosquad"?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I dunno. Remember Robot Wars? It got LESS interesting as the viable combat types were whittled down to like, what, three?

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Like think of Smash Bros. Invariably, there's 1-2 "absolute top tier" picks that establish themselves, but get banned. Promotes MORE choice.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

But if you keep banning down the list as things go without foresight, eventually you just end up with nothing left.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That's because they kept banning shit. By removing options, they inadvertently created a metagame few competitive remaining choices.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Razor was both the best & very unique.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Unless you ban the boring shit ;-)

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I expected it to be less staged than fucking WWE.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

I'm so happy to find someone else who was thinking the same thing. All of my buddies loved it and I'm just sitting here like O.o The fuck?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Really? Havent heard anyone who thought this was more than a staged, slow, overly american and lame event...

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well they're American so.... XD I feel it needed to be sold as a 'proof of concept' not trying to make it a tournament.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As a proof of concept, imo, it failed. At least, no1 around me was like "id love to see more" next time theyll just ignore it

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

While i didnt expect THAT much, I was let down with the fight not being dynamic, like team USA didnt even try and move in round 1.

8 years ago | Likes 64 Dislikes 4

The US robot only moved at 2.5 mph or something, with 40 hp.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I hope I don'd sound too dickish, but seemed semi-staged. Like censored live? kinda fishy. Still bad ass regardless.

8 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 2

A lot of people in Twitch chat were saying it was recorded last month. I didn't want to believe them, but after the "interaction" with the

8 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 1

commentators, I think they were right.

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

It was prerecorded because they did repairs and tuning in between rounds. The whole streamed match on twitch has been done in a few days.

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

It looked very staged. The commentators reactions? The lighting rigs blasting out sparks? Lighting rigs don't spark like that when knocked.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Thier first bot was a pita to operate. not surprised that was thee outcome. Give it time, this could be great. Besides, you can

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Only do so much with live people in these things. Thier safety is first. Make these things remote controlled, then you get your Carnage.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Will need to become a lot more popular to justify the 1M+ price tags though. We can only hope.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Sorry folks, physics says mechs are *never* going to happen. Even if we ever have the technology to make them feasible, they will never 1/

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 12

be practical enough to justify their use. A tank will always have better armour/firepower/mobility/survivability to weight and cost. On 2/

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 11

the battlefield you want to be as small and mobile as possible. Don't have armour? Gotta go super mobile (helicopter). To heavy to fly? 3/

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 11

Shittonne of armour and keep yourself low (a lot of effort is put into keeping tanks squat). Need to crawl around on the ground? Tracks 4/

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 11

distribute your weight better than feet. There is zero advantage to being super-tall. 5/5

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 12

I'll bet you're just the life of the party, aren't ya...

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Power armour, on the other hand, is a little bit more possible. Also, Mechs for industrial use are much more likely.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Great argument on all points. I would say this is more tied to practicality and overall effectiveness rather than physics issues.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

You'll notice that the comparison anime clip takes place in space though. Conventional tanks are not going to be well suited there either.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

That was interesting but why you gotta crush my dreams?
