It looks like the city of Sacramento's animal shelter has a bunch of really cute doggos that need loving homes. And are having free adoptions from 24 Jan - 28 Jan.

Here is their twitter information.

Here is the Front Street Animal Shelter's address and additional details. So if you are looking for a companion to lighten your life and live in the local area check this out :).

Dog Tax: My pupper Kiki

Edit: Front page! Send me pictures of your doggos!

Please please please do not take an animal if you cannot take care of it.

A cavalier! I have a Ruby.

My county shelter has been doing this almost every weekend. They've been double capacity since the summer. Hope they all find good homes.

I'm glad I moved from there. Because I would pull up in a bus.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Why would you downvote this?

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Sacramento people unite and adopt all the animalssss!!!

Careful, i don’t know about Sacramento, but the Bay Area is going through a dog flu epidemic. Ours is miserable with it...

Hello from Stockton to all my Sacramento Imgurers!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I wish i could but where i live they dont allow more than 1 pet

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

we adopted our pup on a Free adoption day 1.5 years ago! Best decision ever.

That is one handsome dog! Not seen one quite like that before, what’s the breed?

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

She is a hound mix. Mostly American Fox Hound.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Did he just hear the word "cheese"?

8 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

She is super photogenic. Even when she derps.

❤️

“Adopt dogs save lives” sounds like “take these dogs or we’re gonna fucking kill them”

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Front Street is a no kill shelter ???? so all these pups stay until they find homes

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's pretty much true. :/

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Do like Most of the southern states do, ship them here to Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, etc. We spay and neuter our pets to avoid having...

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

... puppies and kittens freezing in winter.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The problem with “free adoption” days is someone who couldn’t otherwise afford the adoption fee (and therefore future vet care, etc)

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Or people who want a free bait dog now have easy access to them. Hopefully there is still some kind of check process for adoption.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Might be tempted to adopt

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Ofering animals for free is NEVER a good thing. Any random will come and take them for breeding, fighting or other neglect

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The last time a shelter did this many people adopted dogs them brought them back within a week because they didn't have the money or

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

permission to even keep them. Adoption fees help fund the shelter itself with vet and food bills

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

TIL you have to pay to adopt a dog.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Having worked for a no kill cat rescue, yes, you do have to pay. Every cat we brought in got a -full- vet exam, neutered and chipped. 1/x

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

We lost money, even though we charged $120/cat adoption fee. But your cat just got the best medical care he may have ever had.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

yes, and the adoption fee is the first of many bills, and the smallest amount of money you'll have to pay for the rest of their lives....

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

it's expensive to keep a dog. it's expensive for a rescue to rehab/treat one. It shouldn't be free to get your hands on one.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I live in Sacramento and would love to get a dog. The only problem is I’m never home so it’s unfair to the animal.

8 years ago | Likes 81 Dislikes 0

Thank you for NOT adopting in this case. One day you will have the time!

8 years ago | Likes 50 Dislikes 0

Maybe get a very independent cat?

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Then get two dogs

8 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 6

They can play w each other when you're out of the house.

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 5

If you’re gonna get 2, what’s 2 more at that point. Get 4 to be safe.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Can’t you have the dog with you to work? Not making a rude assumption, but I can and I love having her with me

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

We use to be able to. There were 5 or 6 people that brought their dogs in. I didn’t want to be the person to cause it to stop (1/2)

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Because there were to many dogs. We just moved to a new building and they made a rule that you can’t bring pets to work (2/2)

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Damn, that sucks

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

ngl I cringe when I think about people only adopting because it's free. If you can't afford an adoption fee, how the hell can you 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

How much is this fee?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Depends. Ranges from $50-$200. Bear in mind it covers vaccinations and a spay/neuter, which would cost $400+

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

afford the pet? I mean this is a good idea to clear the shelter, but half those dogs will end up right back where they started. 2/2

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I agree to a certain point, but some animals have added expenses and paying to adopt feels like another kick to the budget

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I wanted to adopt a senior cat that I loved but was unwilling to pay another $150 for a cat that was going to have massive vet bills already

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah I actually get irate at the thought of this. The adoption fee pretty much pays their spay/neuter and stay and nothing else. If you...

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

are the type to not want to pay that, you definitely aren't the type to feed quality food or take to a vet at least yearly for shots either.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If youre feeding your dog from a bag/can you’re not feeding your dog quality.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

There are at least bag/canned options that are grain free and acceptable protein sources. Lots feed their dogs what is essentially just corn

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Plus there’s always the concern of dog fighters looking for bait dogs. :(

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Do they vet potential owners? Or just hand them out?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It says in the post "pending adoption application and counseling". I adopted at Front Street, it took about 2 hours of talking/meeting.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Application and "counselling" . So if I'm some scumbag who wants a free bait dog for fighting dogs, I only have to have a chat?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Have you ever adopted from a shelter before? That's all they do. They don't have the funds or the means to do a home check on everyone.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yep all my dogs are shelter dogs. They charge shit loads for them.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hey! I'm in Sacramento!
