i deliver uber eats late at night when i'm bored. there's a deli by me that's also open late. i've decided to recreate some of the sandwiches i pick up.

samdwich^^^

drugs are a hell of a drug

i had to make sandwich juice first
3/4 cup oil
1/4 cup vinegar
tsp each red pepper, garlic powder, oregano
then i hit it with salt and pepper til it tasted right. probably 1/4 tsp each.

tonight is winnie's second night out of the cage on her own.
we've had her for about a month. there were some house training issues but she seems to know what's going on now. she doesn't like walking on the tile cuz she can't get her footing, but i guess turkey is worth the trip.

i had a hard time figuring out how to build this. i kinda put stuff between layers of turkey so it wasn't just a ball of slop in a pile.

bottom to top: bread, "gourmaise", onion, pickle chicps, meat, cucumber, cheese, meat, horse radish sauce, mustard, meat, tomato, giardiniera, lettuce, sandwich juice, mayo, bread.

lauren didn't order chips or a drink, but i'm gonna assume she had some at home.

its...something. not sure if i'd order that for myself though.

#6 I guess a piece of turkey is an appropriate substitute for the cheese tax.

it just never tastes the same as the one from the deli / restaurant

there's some science behind this and all food made at home. basically, because you're handling the ingredients and smelling them you kinda get desensitized to them. when i make subs like this i'll typically eat half when i make it and then drop the other half in a sandwich bag and put it in the fridge. they're better the next time for those reasons and also it gives time for all the stuff to kinda melt together.

I would kill for this sandwich, and I'm not even high yet

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

@op how much did it cost to recreate vs buy?

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

There was a soul cost involved in recreating this monstrosity that cannot be calculated.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

dunno. i had everything except the bread.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I too, pick Lauren's sandwich.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Original

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wouldn’t it be easier to recreate the sandwich by placing the same order at the same sandwich shop?

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

you're right. why make any food at home at all? i can order just about anything i want.

THE CHEESE TAX

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That looks AMAZING!

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I need to know about cajun gourmaise. If it's just Best Foods and a sprinkly of Tony Cs I'm gonna be very upset.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

i have no idea. tbh i looked it up and saw a bottle that looked like it was orange-ish mayo and that's as far as bothered to look into it. for all i know it could be a 4 day process that requires a fan boat and swamp water and i didn't wanna get into that.

NGL, this one looks delicious.

Winnie is the best! Red Merle Australian Shepherd?

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

we assume so. we foster dogs and they don’t tell us anything about them but we decided to adopt her ourselves. this is honey. we’ve had her for a week or so and she’s up for adoption. if you’re in the chicago area and you’re interested let me know.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Definitely a red Merle aussie. I have one myself! Honey is a good dog she will get a home soon!

i’m out grilling now. they were complaining that it’s too hot outside so now they’re just chilling in the living room.

How much did it cost Lauren to get a sandwich delivered?

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

i was paid around $9 for the delivery and she tipped like $3 and change. i have no idea what her total fee was.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yikes! That’s a lot of money!

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

a few weeks ago i picked up a 20oz pepsi and a bag of chips at 7-11. delivered it about 2miles. uber paid me $19 and i got a $4 tip. delivering late night is dangerous where i’m at, but when i’m the only driver around at 3am i’m a premium commodity.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It’s good for you but I couldn’t justify that amount of spending for myself.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

i think uber takes a loss on a lot of that stuff. better to take a hit here and there instead of not delivering to a customer because i or someone else rejected a delivery cuz i didn’t think the pay was worth it. there’s really not enough room to explain how the whole thing works, but when i’m the only guy in an area i’ll sometimes reject a delivery 2 or 3 times. each time the pay goes up and i’ll take it when i feel like it’s worth the hassle.

#2 pickle chips are a thing. In some areas, they're a name for cross section slices of pickle - i have seen that term on packaging. And there are also potato chips flavored like dill pickle.

Trick is to mix the Italian/oil/vinegar with the lettuce first

Man, I wish there was a sandwhich shop open late at night in ATX

Las Cazuelas on Cesar Chavez. Open until 2am.

I work downtown and it's rare I can leave the store. There's only so much whataburger I can eat.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

hopefully you'd be more responsible with your sandwich ordering

2 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

That doesn’t sound fun at all

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

what happened to Austin that there's nothing open late anymore?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The majority of the 24hr places couldn't stay open during/after covid. Mainly because they don't have the business like they used to to stay open or the staff.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That would be dope. One thing I miss from moving here from east coast: not enough 24 hour diners

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

We still have Star Seeds, or Stars Cafe as it's known now.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah. Used to go there a bit when I lived down south. But a single non-mega-chain in diner the entire area makes me sad.

What's the joke about the gated community for night workers where everything is open at night? Oh wait that's the whole joke

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Explain.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Gladly since my soup is very hot. Night shift workers need to get stuff and 24 hour places are scarce since Covid so like I want some food at 4am please

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

What's this got to do with the setup?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Try Jersey mikes#8 next.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

/gallery/pcyshGY maybe i'll do a proper one next time but this is what i have on file.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not enough bacon! I order that because I live with an 86y/o who is in the process of getting partial plates. I am so tired of not eating crunchy food.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I think Lauren had the munchies lol that's a lot of different sauces

2 years ago | Likes 133 Dislikes 0

I'm gonna go out on a limb and remind everyone that bread makes the sandwich. And you can't just get good bread from the supermarket.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I dunno. When I order a Pub Sub, I always order them with both the regular (extra yolks) mayo and the Boar's Head pepperhouse gourmaise.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

What do you prefer? I like mayo, yellow mustard and oil/vinegar for this type of hearty bread

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

I'm a mayo and mustard girl too! I am not a fan of added oil and vinegar though

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

veggies dipped in oil and vinegar mixture helps bonding the whole thing together.

Pickle Chips.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

yes. i have chips as well. these are chicps though. gotta fave chicps for a proper samdwich.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You mean these. These are good to.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

no, but those are kinda gross tbh.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

@op you better make this a series or else…

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

i’ve got 2 more saved that i’ve already made and a few i haven’t done yet. unfortunately they’re either very boring or “what the fuck were you thinking?” no middle. i’ll put one of my saved ones up in a little bit. about to make breakfast.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

“What the fuck were you thinking” is the level of awesomeness we’re after! Thank you for your service!!
