I'm a 16 year old adopted kid. When I was in foster care he guy who was my social worker stuck me with a gay family which was AWESOME since I'm gay. He knew they would accept me. Today he came by to check on me and gave me a gift. I didn't really get to go back to my house once I got away from my abusive dad. He brought my moms old photo album and some of my toys from when I was little. I gave some of them to my little brother.. some I kept. I still have my favorite teddy bear and Wolverine figure. I'm so happy now and I'm glad I can be a success case for him.

Social Workers need more respect! truly unspoken heros

That's beautiful. Having been homeless, I know all too well that many of our caseworkers are not dedicated to us, only their jobs. NICE!

My social worker was the best. She sadly passed away years ago but put me with the greatest family i could ever ask for.

I'm a junior in college, getting my BSA in SW, and it's social workers like him that make me so fucking excited to work in the field.

This is exactly why I love my job, I have the opportunity to help kids like you. Stories like yours keep me from quitting the field. Thanks.

<3 I wish more couples were willing to adopt older children instead of going the biological route. What a lovely social worker. Good luck!

As a freshman in college working to get my Masters in Social Work, these are the stories that make it worth the years of college.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Me too! I'm actually doing my Master's thesis on the experience of LGBTQ Foster youth

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's crazy! This is my first semester. I have quite a few more years to go. But it will all be worth it someday. :)

Don't feel you need to continue being a success. It's 100% okay to feel sad and mess up. You dont have to live up to those expectations. 1

You won't lose their love if you feel terrible, so don't suppress fear/sadness thinking you have to be happy now that you are safe. It's ok

From a math teacher at a school for high risk jr high students, I want to let you know that YOU are the one who is awesome.

As a former foster child (12 years) this is wonderful. When your caseworker cares is a beautiful thing.

I suggest a duel. It should solve your kerfuffle.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Between the toys seems appropriate.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well, clearly the bear said something terrible about Wolvie's parents, so now they have to fight - and you can take pictures? 1/

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Or something like that. You're a good kid, OP, and well on your way to being somebody your brother looks up to and your dads be proud of.2/2

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Did your brother come with you as a pair?

9 years ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 0

SO IT WAS YOU WHO STOLE MY RUG

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No, he's from a different family we were just both adopted by the same dudes.

9 years ago | Likes 81 Dislikes 0

What a couple of cool dudes!

As ex social worker, this made me cry. I tried. Often placing with gay couples in a state where we had to skirt the rules. 1/

9 years ago | Likes 334 Dislikes 2

My gf and would like to have a biological child or two together, but we're hoping to adopt as many kids as we can afford.

9 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 1

The world needs more adoptive parents. I wish you the best!

2/ Placed sexually abused children with gay couples because knew they would be less judgemental of some of the acting out behaviors.

9 years ago | Likes 241 Dislikes 2

Not to mention a same-sex couple means there's an option of a two parent family where neither is the same sex as the abuser.

9 years ago | Likes 181 Dislikes 1

On a limb I'd say that reasoning is a little unhealthy, you don't want them avoiding an entire gender all their lives

9 years ago | Likes 51 Dislikes 142

No but if it means that they can have some comfort and safety at home, they can work on the gender relationship outside of it.

9 years ago | Likes 171 Dislikes 0

As a CASA, I love this. Home should be a safe haven for all children. Thank you for doing the difficult work.

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

That's exactly what I was going for, @shoretoplease. Having a home where you feel safe changing clothes? Sleeping at night? Priceless.
