These were all photographed on medium-format black and white film without telephoto or zoom lenses

I love my Yashica Mat more than is probably healthy.

This is my dream, to both photograph (and get good products) and to explore the African Savannah. This man or woman is great at what they do

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yea BULLSHIT no telephoto or zoom. You'd have to be close enough to punch them in the teeth to get some of these without telephoto.

Photographer is Nick Brandt.

10 years ago | Likes 120 Dislikes 3

His photos are as sexy as he is!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He's been evasive about his technique which may not be as simple and minimal as OP suggested. But hot damn I love his work.

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Some of them look like they're done with infra red film. It adds a dramatic look to black and white photos.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Um..had me till the last few and now im insert sad face

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Which instagram filter did you say you used?

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Beautiful but 1. How do you know what lenses he used and 2. What, you got a problem with telephoto and zoom lenses?

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

And while we're at it, a "zoom" lens is any lens with a variable focal length. Some of them are extremely wide (e.g. Canon EF-S 10-22 mm).

This photo essay is extraordinary; powerful work, Mr Nick Brandt. Time to hunt the hunter's.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Black and white photos can be so powerful if done properly. These are wonderful.

Silver gelatin FTW! I love darkroom work.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

#13 vs #14, that pisses me off....

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That's the point

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Is there a way one could buy prints of these, in a way to support the photographer and his beautiful work?

10 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 1

From his site http://www.nickbrandt.com/text_page.cfm?pid=2709

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ah I've seen these in the photo gallery in Stockholm. The original prints are really amazing and the story behind it is awesome.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

yess, you'd have to see them in big print, impact is way bigger! did you go last year as well?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Haha yea! The actual prints were unraveling ;)

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The last few are horrible

10 years ago | Likes 126 Dislikes 6

Agreed. This isn't hunting. This is poaching. It's not beneficial. It's driving them to extinction.

10 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 0

I think that's the point.

10 years ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 0

Without dentists, there wouldn't be any of these animals left. Dentistry IS preservation.

10 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 2

Such is life though :(

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

You again.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Huh?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Without hunters, there wouldn't be any of these animals left. Hunting IS preservation.

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 20

Elephant in the 4th picture was poached though.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

not an expert. Care to elaborate?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hunters add monetary value to animals like these, so land owners protect them from poaching, add fencing, land managers, etc.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

But the only reason they NEED preservation is hunters. Without hunters they'd be fine on their own. Animals like penguins that aren't 1

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

easily hunted are fine. Animals like elephants that are hunted are running out.

10 years ago | Likes 0 Dislikes 0

This is entirely untrue. Unless you're calling poachers, hunters, which just isn't the case. Are you vegan? :p

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Poachers is what I meant, my bad. I am not vegan

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well, yes, if there were no poachers, then hunting regulation would be minimal. But exotic tags go for quite a lot!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not to be rude, but are you retarded? That's not hunting, it's poaching. Animals are slaughtered so some rich asshole can decorate his house

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 3

No photos above show any poaching. The tusks have been removed from live animals by the wardens, paid for by hunters.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

My apologies, it appears I'm the retard here. I guess I let my emotions get the best of me sometimes.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

This was handled in a very civil and adult fashion. I commend you both. There may yet be hope for the internet world.

If you don't understand this, it just means that you aren't serious about conservation, but I'm sure you tell people you care a whole lot.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

I see what your saying, but it's pretty messed up. That's like saying that some woman need to be raped so that the government protects them

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

No, it's like saying some women need to get married so that their husband can protect them from rapists...still a bad analogy, though.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

Lol yes
