#1 I'm sorry to all the other anxious people of the world because while I fully have been thru this I can't help myself but be super judgmental about this shit.

I think I found that reddit post if anyone is interested in reading it. I didn't see any negativity, it's great. https://www.reddit.com/r/NoStupidQuestions/comments/dw8f8c/i_have_very_bad_anxiety_and_would_like_to_try/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb

#1 Did he try to "man up and just do it"?/s

#1 What a wonderful world it would be if we were all kind.

Man #1 reminds me of my 20's where I basically didn't do anything or talk with anyone who wasn't already family or a friend. Even then it was short. Even now I still feel the need to fully research stuff so I know what I'm supposed to do and don't look like an idiot when I try a new experience or thing.

#1 I mean... The employees are going to help you. They want this to succeed as well and they have experience with it.

While this is valid, the issue with Anxiety is it stops you before you even get off the couch to grab your keys. Imagine a voice in your head always going, "but what if...?" to every thought you have. For whatever reason, my brain goes, "Yeah that!" and our anxiety starts to spike so I do something else and avoid the unknown. But it doesn't stop there, it instead the amount of Anxiety increases every time I see a subway. Now instead of a subway - imagine that is how everything is viewed.

#1 This. I put off going to subway for years because I was shit scared of trying to work out how I order.

I don't have anxiety, but find the organisation's refusal to make a sandwich without my detailed supervision pretty frustrating.

I can't order at McDonals, it just overwhelms me every time l try to go there. Too man options, too many names for burgers that mean nothing to me.

Look at the menu on line so you are prepared next time! That’s what I do!

Where I live, if you download the app, you can order online and pick up in store. It will let you know when your food is ready on the app and then usually leave the bag on the counter with a matching number code.

My mate once talked me through how to use a post office while i was standing in the queue cos i completely freaked out, despite having posted parcels before several times. Bless him.

Post office is super intimidating for some people. I helped someone use the self-service kiosk recently. I’ve found the employees at my PO to be unhelpful so they let you fend for yourself lol

The thing that got to me is there is always a queue, you will always have 5-6+ people behind you, watching your every move. Especially when you have to fill out forms and are taking 10+ minutes, you feel like they are forming a party and raising pitch forks.

#1 can someone explain how to use the bus? I never know how so instead of looking dumb or causing inconvenience I always uber. But I really wouldn't mind doing the bus... It just confuses me.

If you need info about Italy, lemme know:)

Where in the world are you located? This might differ from place to place.

In Denver, download the RTD app and turn on location to map a route or check for nearest service. Purchase fare through the app and activate, scanning when you board. Pull the yellow wire when approaching your stop and exit through the back door unless you need the ramp in the front or to get your bicycle from the rack attached to the front of the bus. Thank your driver.

Go to your city transit website to find out how much a ride costs. It’s usually a blanket cost no matter where you are going. You can almost certainly pay with cash, but it is easier to pay by card (some cities may require you to buy a special transit card that can be topped up online). Then, when you get on the bus, there is a little machine where you either swipe the card or insert the cash. They don’t usually give change so just bring the exact amount. Once you’ve paid, you just sit down and

ride until your stop. When you want to get off, push the button or pull the string to let the bus driver know. Google maps is pretty good at knowing the different stops so you can use that to know when you have to get off. It’s easy!

I was in the same place as you for years. The other comments here have good advice. Adding here though, that google maps is pretty good for learning that stuff. If you get directions on there, you can ask for public transport, and there are options to specify what kinds of transport you do and don't want to take. It'll tell you which specific bus to get on (which route number) and it'll give you a warning when your stop is coming up.

As for the actual nitty gritty, I don't know how much of this is different depending on where you are, but for the record, this info is accurate to Melbourne Australia. We have a specific card that we put money on that's valid for all forms of PT, buses included. If you don’t have one, there's also an app on your phone that will work, and last I got on the bus (pre-covid) they will also take cash for a one time use. The bus has its specific route it takes past each of its stops. But it only 》

Stops if someone is waiting at the stop to get on, or a passenger has requested they stop. Stop request methods can differ from bus to bus, but the most standard way is a small, red, square button on the poles inside (which you can also use to keep yourself steady if you need to stand because there are no seats). Push the button to let the driver know someone wants to get off at the next stop. If you're not too anxious about speaking to the driver, you can also just request a specific stop and 》

They'll make sure to stop there and call it out for you. When exiting the bus, you may also need to "touch off" with your card/phone.
