TIL I have synesthesia... And people thought I was crazy when I told them numbers and letters have a color!

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As a Psych major, I knew that this existed! And I'm super jealous that you have it!! xD

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

My ex could see voices as colours/shapes, but not other sounds.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Numbers have a texture and a temperature for me!

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I have adhd, nothing like what you got, but i agree on how hard it is to explain neurology to people who can't understand it

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Is there any downside to this? It sounds awesome!

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This is super interesting and amazing! I'd love to experience this.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

is... is this why i think in gifs?

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I am a Synesthete. I see color when I hear music. I've been playing guitar for 25 years now, and my synesthesia has definitely helped.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is very similar to my experiences as a Synesthete!

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Also, I see the different strands of colors in a chord, and not just one solid color. Like watching a dynamic rainbow of hues per chord.

*sigh* *Adds another thing to his list of things that would make up the perfect girlfriend*

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Don't know if it qualifies, but when I taste stuff I think of the different flavors as notes/tones and a color.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My boyfriend told me about this not long ago. Very interesting. Also very cool presentation !

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

become an artist, yup! also i had this thing as a kid where numbers had mental connotation to color like 1=yellow and 6=red. do mo of diz!

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

All colours have smells for me :)

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Here is a great website to find out if you have synesthesia! http://www.synesthete.org/

If it is already a color, how can you tell when you colored for this post?

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I see things as what color they really are first and the color fade in the longer I look

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That's pretty awesome

When I was in school for Music performance, I was 'diagnosed' with this. I just thought I was weird all my life.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I thought I was broken for the longest time. My parents had no idea what I was talking about xD

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have this thing where I see faces in numbers? Idk if that's the same, but like a certain number will look like someone I know?

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I HAVE THIS TOO. But everything is categorized into shades or red or shades of blue. Like, my right hand is red and my left hand is blue

12 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Sounds like you lead a colorful life, OP.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My friend has the kind where she sees written dialogue as homoerotic subtext

12 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

If this is a joke it went way over my head by if this is real please explain.

It's important to get tested annually for headcanon.

12 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I'm sexually aroused by cloth napkins, does this count?

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

wow that actually gives insight to the idea of language, like color being an integral part of the human brain's wiring. thanks for the read.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Is each letter, number, etc always the same color to you?

12 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 1

Not always. Surrounding letters, contexts of words, etc can change them

12 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

This doesn't sound like a bad thing...is it?

12 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Some people are distressed by it, and a lot of people don't even realize they are different for a large proportion of their lives.

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Not at all!

12 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Although it makes math class annoying. :)

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Least your math class might be a bit more fun. Pretty cool that different patterns make you see differently.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It actually makes it easier to differentiate things--at least for me!

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Isnt this type of reaction, sounds to taste ect, one of the things that happen when you take LSD?

12 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Don't say that :( now i have to go try LSD!

12 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I have Sound → Touch synathesia. Whenever I hear something, I also feel it in my skin somewhere. Bloody useless. But I really enjoy music.

12 years ago | Likes 95 Dislikes 0

That's pretty cool- it's like a useless but harmless superpower, except for that nasty bit with your stepdad.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

sex would be cool though?

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I've always wanted to hear a first hand account of it from a living person! so interesting.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So..... What sound makes orgasms happen?

12 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

You stay true to your name

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

HARPSICHORD

12 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Clarinets come pretty close, because they're the only instrument I've found which moves around, depending on what register it's in.

12 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I would pay a bajillion dollars to experience this.

12 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Only pay $30, go to a metal show, and stand about 10 feet away from the speakers. You'll feel EVERYTHING.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Being stoned and having that sounds like heaven

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Is that what it is? Everytime I listen to music my body is tingling. If a leap in tempo, the feeling shoots down my spine and feels amazing.

12 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

That is a pretty normal response to music; there's scientific proof that certain chords and chord progressions cause dopamine release.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh... cool! Thank-you Dr. Kah! I shall get back to you once I have self-diagnosed myself. Damper yourself up, a message may come to you! xD

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've only done minimal research on the topic, but I'm interested in it as I was once a music ed. major.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I actually never heard of the topic, so this was my first experience. I cannot believe I missed something so... beautiful.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hate to burst your bubble, but that could also be due to the dopamine your body can release when listening to music (still pretty cool tho)

12 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Awe, I knew I wasn't special... xD Just wishing. <3

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

e.g. when my stepfather used to yell at me, his screaming felt like warm honey across my chest. That made me giggle, which made him angrier.

12 years ago | Likes 44 Dislikes 0

That's amazing, i'm very intrigued by you! You have a superpower. Not so super really but it's still a power :)

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Do you get individual sensations for words? That's what I feel.

12 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Nope! Nothing with lexical significance.

12 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

All right. I have different skin sensations for words.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Assuming you don't speak swedish or similar, how does, er, "åpen" compare to "apen"? Does the å feel like an "a" would?
