Cool fact, Microsoft make more money from Office for Mac than Windows OS.

Jeez, First thing I do after installing WinRAR is open it on Resource Hacker and delete the nag registration dialog box. lol
quaglinoman
After 10 years I paid for it, as a thank you. It’s a great product I use often. It’s fair, but some may not have the funds so they get free
JustSomePersonIdk
7zip, GIMP, and Libre office. While they mightn't cover everything, typically all I need.

RAR was always an inferior format. ARJ for the win!

LibreOffice or OpenOffice to replace Micorosft Office. Not sure about the adobe one but if it's just storage: Google Drive or DropBox.
Yurets1257
Creative Cloud is a fancy word for all their products (as I understood).
Oh you mean like Photoshop? Adobe Aftereffects? And so on? There are free alternatives to those :P

Wikipedia is the new winrar

i paid for it, i use it soo much and wanted to support the company who makes it.

Student edition of Adobe CC (all apps) is $19.99/month. Use your college alumni.edu email. Rock the discount.
alisa2089
Or get the elements version and you can stop paying monthly for software till the end of time.
Dragoro2022
When I got my very first pc, I decided I would actually pay the winrar price to actually use the product "legitimately"
But, what I found out, is that there service isn't actually a free trial. It's more of a test out the big boy tools, and pay to keep those.
This is important for big businesses that need something super heavy duty. But the regular is like us having the "lite" version, exept
They dont suck and have advertisements everyfuckingwhere
VresiBerba
That evil fuck who figured out that exact timing on the WinRAR nag-screen pop-up shall burn in hell for an eternity!

I paid once as it was only a couple of dollars, if I can afford a Starbucks I can damn well pay for software I use regularly.
khora
I had the company I worked for pay for winrar.
DrNick
Why would I pay to use WinRAR when 7zip is better?
FirstAidPoetry
I went back to WinRAR ages ago. Don’t remember why. Better shell integration? Tried PowerArchiver, it was crap.
melwil
Why use winrar at all, that's the question.
Well WinRAR does have the option to automatically open the extracted folder. Where as 7zip doesn't.
That being said, there is a fork of 7zip that hasn't updated in a few years, that does have that feature. Easy 7-Zip
Simple solution: navigate to the parent and drag the archive contents to said folder. You're pretty much there.
TheRealCrimesJohnson
...I bought WinRAR...
me too :) https://imgur.com/jKVS3vq
Congrats! I bought my copy about 15 years ago - you’re going to love not having that damn pop-up. :)
Fun fact: I had the licence in the inbox for over a year until my PC required a reinstallation and I had to reinstall the cracked version
CanThinkOfUsername
I have all of that with the cost of some sketchy russian repack site.
TheContumeliousBaron
Problem is, none of them have viable alternatives accept winrar 1000000000000000000000000000000000000000001 options for compression all free

There are plenty of good os's out there, you're just too lazy to find and use any of them (see ubuntu)
dickable
You really out here pretending OpenOffice isn't roughly as functional as MSO, and entirely, legally free?
Inkycricket
I would reccomend libreoffice, not openoffice.
You ever use open office? Last time I believe it was java based and ran like a one legged dog in snow. It’s not a viable alternitive
znuff
Honestly, it's not. I love open source, but Excel and Word are in their own league and nothing is even close to them.
Only thing coming close is google docs - they did a hell of a job
Sure, Libre Office (or Open) "works" for simple documents, but the tools to do specific tasks are years behind MS Office.

One time purchase of office home and student is 169 CAD, Windows is 189. If you want home and biz (319 - outlook), or 80 a yr for 365.
With that said, 95% of people paying for office have no need of it and can use Libre Office, Open office or google docs for their needs.
