Day # whatever of me trying to change people’s minds about spiders

Mar 4, 2026 5:38 PM

Much like a cat, Mango insists that if he fits, he sits lol. All the spiders loveee this playgym, but Mango explores for maybe 30 seconds before climbing into his little treasure chest and chilling there. He even does the little spin around to make sure he’s extra comfy lol

Moments like this are the ones I’m always most excited to share with you guys: silly little things that show how personable and fun jumping spiders can be! Even if you don’t want to physically HANDLE a spider, there’s so many cool ways to bond and interact together :)

#spider #cute_animal #mildly_interesting #silly #cute

I DO love how they each have their own quirks!
Easy to connect to 'em that way~

They really do have unique personalities!!

I love these little guys! They have such expressive faces.

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They really do! And they all have very unique personalities!

When I was 7 I went to my aunts hippie barn wedding and something fell in my hair that I’m told was a spider maybe it wasn’t but something bit me and my finger swelled up super huge and I went to the hospital and so I’m an adult now and I still get freaked out about spiders but I don’t kill them I move them outside and I try to be calm and not pass on trauma because I have a daughter who’s watching and I’m not sure my mind can be changed but thanks for trying because animals need protection too!

Spider bites are rare & almost always misdiagnosed by doctors, so take that as you will. (For example: someone claiming they got bit by a brown recluse in Washington? No. No I promise you did not; that’s thousands of miles outside their native range. But the Dr will call it a spider bite instead of staph 🙃)

But more importantly I’m really proud of you for facing a fear and NOT passing it down to your kiddo! Arachnophobia is not an innate fear; it’s a learned fear. So good parent award!

So how many D&D GMs just got an idea?

3 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Ohhh you should check out my Hyllus for some cool inspo too! Lemme link the male; he looks like an alien lol

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Is that a fist sized spooder?

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Lmao no; unfortunately no jumping spiders get THAT big! (I do keep the biggest species of jumper spider if you ever want to see.) Mango is about the size of my thumbnail, maybe a little bigger?

Cute cat!

Kill the Spider!
Yes, dear.
Catches spider and puts it outside.
Did you kill the spider?
Yes, dear

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I appreciate this about you :)

3 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

What species is that?

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Phidippus regius, or regal jumping spider :)

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Adorable

5 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It is his box and he is a happy lil one!

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

lol he’s the only one who “claims” it as his spot! Lime likes to chill under the mushroom and the girls prefer being handled :)

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Saw this on youtube yesterday. Had me daaawing then too.

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sometimes I mess up the order of what goes up on here and what goes on YouTube lol. I like you guys to see things first as a general rule

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't mind myself but whatever you peffer :).

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wouldn't you like to use more natural materials for their playgym and not all those plastics? :-)

3 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

There’s several materials, including natural elements like hemp rope and moss, on the play gym. Just because you can’t see it doesn’t mean it’s not there 😉

FWIW, this is a play gym, not where they live. The two are completely different set-ups with different priorities and purposes. I have live plants that they’re also allowed to climb on when it’s time to play

If you’re talking about a fully bioactive enclosure? Absolutely not unless you are an expert keeper with experience in that field

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

AFAIK is the playgym all about giving the spiders as many different textures to discover as possible. And it seems they enjoy the plastic of the FDM print.

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Exactly! But following that logic, there ARE natural materials like hemp rope and moss built into the play gym too :)

I think they’re confusing a play spot versus a lived-in enclosure, which serve totally different purposes and have different priorities

Those are some huge layer lines on those mushrooms

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

1. Really missing the point here, aren’t ya?
2. I didn’t make the damn thing 🤷🏼‍♀️

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It wasn't a comment on you it was on the person who made it. I have a printer so I look at these things and how things can be improved. And it is really fun to see them in spider habitats

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Point 1 still stands

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Rationally i know these are very useful animals, they won't attack or bite if you don't agitate them but i would still be so extremely uncomfortable if i even were in the same house as them, much more so if i were in the same room and would have to extremely control myself if they were free roaming like they are in this video.

Small house spiders are absolutely no problem, wouldn't even react if one were to crawl across my arm but these big hairy ones - no thanks. I'm sorry.

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

He’s not big at all though? He’s like, the size of a quarter??

He’s also not free roaming. Mango is being carefully supervised by two people while out to play. They don’t just all live around my house; they’re in enclosures

I think being more open-minded and actually educating yourself on something before speaking negatively about it would be beneficial to you in the future

Alternately- block the spider tag so you don’t see more posts like this

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Listen, i get what you're trying to do and i applaud you for it. I'm not an arachnophobe, i had small "house" spiders crawl over my hand and had no reaction but i am having a reaction once they get noticeably big, i will be uncomfortable.

This is not negativity, it is how i feel about them when they're that close and visible to me. I can watch videos or pictures of them, read articles and even appreciate especially cool looking color on them, i just don't want them within reach of me.

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don’t understand what you’re trying to communicate here.

1. Is this spider in reach of you? No. You say you’re fine looking at them…So your point is null and void.
2. I’m going to reiterate: this spider fits on my thumbnail. HE. IS. NOT. BIG. You want to see big? I’ll post my G rosea who is bigger than my hand 😒
3. Are you *really* not arachnophobic, or do you just want to play it off cool? Because it seems to me like you need to actually work on that. Or don’t. I really don’t care

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Seems you care enough to respond with some hostility to an internet stranger who just shared a bit about the issue and it seems you are taking it personal that someone is not completely onboard with you.

As i said i applaud you for your intentions and i have no problem with what you're trying to do but you also need to be able to accept people who are not completely on your side.

Just chill, you can argue the point without getting aggressive about it.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

People are “not on board” with me literally all the time. And I take the time to respond to every comment. It’s not aggressive at all- I literally said “I don’t care.” Seems like you just didn’t appreciate me clapping back instead of coddling you.

I need a mango for scale to see how big Mango is.

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Omg do you have any idea of how many times I have bought bananas for scale and then completely forgotten about them? 😂 One day, one day. I’ll get a lime too because my partner’s favorite spood is Lime lol

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We need to see Lime!

Yes he can; he’s arachnid

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Lookout! Here comes the Mango maaaaan!

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I have ink of Tigger dressed as Luke Skywalker and Pooh dressed as Batman. I’ve long wanted to have the set finished with Piglet dressed as Spider-Man.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Lmao that’s fabulous! I’m finishing my creepy bug/garden half sleeve on the 20th

It’s my grandma’s death day and I desperately needed something to distract myself. Preferably something painful

*Tiny boom mic moves closer*

Narrator: We're about to find out if jumping spiders snore. . .

3 weeks ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 1

They do sleep, and even dream! But they don’t vocalize so no snoring lol

3 weeks ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

I know some spiders stomp as some form of signal. Could leg tremors be snoring or sleep talking?

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Bet they dream about_you!_

3 weeks ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Nah, probably about bugs. Maybe about the benevolent goddess, bringer of bugs

3 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

How many humans does an average spider eat a year whilst sleeping?!?

3 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Omggggg this is a myth. This is a myth, this is a myth, this is a myth. Have I stressed enough that this is a myth and doesn’t actually happen??

3 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

WHERE ARE ALL THESE LEGS COMING FROM THEN?!?!

3 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ummm if you have an excess of legs, you should probably see a doctor… 😂

3 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

She's amazing

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

She’s a he but YES! All the amazingness

Males are always black and white with slimmer bodies. They always have green or blue chelicerae (mouth bits)

Females can come in a variety of really pretty colors, have a fuller abdomen, and chels are almost always pink/red/purple

Hooray you learned new fun facts you can impress your friends with at parties!

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Amazing! I had never seen his kind before!

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This (and almost all of the spiders you’ll see me post about) is a Phidippus regius, or Regal jumping spider! They’re found in the American southeast, mainly in and around Florida, in year-round warm and tropical environments. *Technically* they’re the biggest jumping spider in the US, but I’ve seen Phidippus audax (Bold jumping spiders) rival their size or even surpass it. So who knows lol🤷🏼‍♀️

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have been majorly underestimating Florida on their spider game. I was able to tell it was a jumping spider though, they have such personality.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We only have tiny shades of grey/black jumping ones up here but they're so fun to interact with when you're aware

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hmm whereabouts? Probably a zebra but idk without region
