Seabin Project

An interesting invention from a couple of Australian guys. Apparently they've been contacted by marinas all over the world to have these installed in a couple of months once they are done prototyping.

Trash which, because countries are stupid, will end up right back in the ocean...

I really hope government start taking this seriously and use it.. And than pls recycle what u get out. Its amazing how stupid gov. can be...

Science i can support!

heros, humans use the oceans as a dump

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Only have to empty the bin 9247 times a day!

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Magnets how do they work!?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's a sophisticated sanitization sea sphincter

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

Super stuff, sensei.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Shoulda said : so, sophisticated sensitization sea sphincter?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's like if a beach bum went to school.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Holy shit, I am glad I live in a rather unpopulated area if you need trashcans in the ocean o_O.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sadly guys, this will only collect less than 1% of sea trash. Most of them are outside the coast.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Plus it can only take enough before emptying out. Easier way is to net out trash. Cool, but not efficient.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The price is fucking ridiculous

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What a bad ass inventor, and invention

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You take out the net, walk to the end of the pier, and dump it in the ocean.

10 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 1

Right? So how can this possibly be a good thing?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Perpetual motion machine confirmed

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Get some to Rio stat! The olympics are gonna be gross.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Or, you could just use a net on a pole and swirl. ?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nice

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I see these sort of thing like every year. Especially beginning of the year. What happens? Nothing. They lose momentum in funding, usually.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Most likely due to inefficancy or other problems

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I think it's due to lack of social anticipation. What do you think?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What if a fish or a bird gets sucked up?

10 years ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 0

ded

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I think it's just below sea level, so any fish would just hit the side and swim away, I don't know about tides or birds tho

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

They mention in the source video that they are working with a biologist to implement some form of fish deterrent in the next prototype.

10 years ago | Likes 46 Dislikes 1

Maybe the occasional tiny fish...not as many as are being hurt by the garbage lol

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

What if all of them get sharks jammed down their throats

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

What

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I was really confused there when I misread the title as the Sybian Project.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You have to start somewhere. Unfortunately a huge problem to take on.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

This is so cool.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is also cool, only the scale is different ????. Dutch guys behind this project: https://www.theoceancleanup.com

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Except one of these costs almost $4,000. Ain't no one buying them for that.

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

marinas with million dollar boats sitting in them im sure wouldn't mind

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

They are aimed mostly at marinas, they can afford it, many have placed orders already.

Baltimore harbor trash wheel .. Solar power trash harbor collector at scale

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But where does the water go?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

its a net. The water just goes through and back into the ocean.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Could be a new method to help clean up oil spills

10 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 3

I think oil would clog it too quickly, the water needs to flow through for the device to work. Maybe some day, using special filtration?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Go the site and watch the full length video it says it can

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

wow, that's great news then. Could be a similar thing to the "life straw" project, groundbreaking innovation getting common along our days!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

!

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Go on the site and watch the full length video it says it can

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

i think it only works for solid stuff

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Somewhere. I forget

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

tar balls?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Plot twist: Invention breaks mid-ocean. Becomes ocean trash. Oh, how the mighty have fallen.

10 years ago | Likes 211 Dislikes 6

it's an active system, needs a pump, offloading to somewhere ... unusable in the open seas independently.

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Plot Twistier: They actually planned for that, and their real profits come from the Seabin Seabinner.

10 years ago | Likes 93 Dislikes 0

We must go deeper

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Not too deep, most of the garbage is on the surface.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Could I interest you in some candy bar bag carrying bags?

10 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

CHOCOLAAAAAAATE!!!!

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Won't it fill with water after 5 secs, which is why the video isn't a continuous shot?

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 5

http://www.seabinproject.com/ read and become enlightened

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's got a water pump. Water pulled in is just pumped out

10 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

So it's a pool skimmer box?

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

It's a pool vacuum.

10 years ago | Likes 516 Dislikes 4

For the ocean.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

poolcuum?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

It's a pool roomba.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's literally just a pool skimmer and filter rolled into one, for the ocean.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

RIP

10 years ago | Likes 141 Dislikes 0

Precisely.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

YOU'RE a pool vacuum.

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Or a floating pond skimmer, made larger.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Nope for docks

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Soak and Suck?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And? ( a joke i'm missing?)

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

No joke, it's a pool vacuum.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Listen 'Lil Sebastian, if it's saves the sea,the world, it's not just a vacuum!
