The barbecue pit at Salt Lick in Driftwood, Texas [OC] [2448x3264]

#food #food_porn #texas

Pretty sure I visited one on my first US roadtrip. As a European I'd have to say Louisiana and Texas are pretty awesome states!

I think it's pronounced: "Heaven's Kitchen"

Went there a few months ago. Was an awesome time.

I spent many nights around that pit in my childhood. Good times!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Man they just chuck it in there eh? That looks delicious!

Can attest! Live in San Antonio. Would drive 45 miles for it. Have done. Bring cash.

looks like a majestic scene out of a fairy tale..... please take me there

I live within 10 mins of Salt Lick. BBQ is ok, atmosphere is terrific, BYOB. If you want the best BBQ in Austin try Franklin's.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Michklethwait on east 11th is the best ❤️❤️ way better line than Franklin!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Been there! Got the tee shirt, I liked smoked butts and I can not lie ;). Thanks now I'm drooling.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Ate many a meal there growing up in Dripping Springs. Good stuff, haven’t been in years.

I second this! This place is delicious.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It is indeed the place of dreams

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Just don't go to the one in Round Rock it sucks. Go to Louie Muller's in Taylor instead if you are on the north side.

I'm on my way!

Salt Lick is in a dry county so it’s BYOB and people will come with Cadillac coolers full of alcohol and make a day out of it. Great place.

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Wait I can just walk into an establishment and bring my own beer into the place?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hays county has so many winery and distillery, it's not dry, you just bring your own and they have live music on some occasions.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And if you’re in the area you have to swing by Lockhart, TX and hit up the classic spots: Kreuz, Blacks, and Smitty’s. Bring cash.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Hays hasn't been a dry county in years, the restaurant itself doesn't sell alcohol but you can buy it at the tasting room on the premises.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wait, what? I went there a year or so ago and they were selling beer in the back. We bought a bucket!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I LOVE THIS PLACE!

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It's magical!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm jealous that you've been there and have the option to return. Also, decided to include Texas in my next next visit to the US

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Doooo it! Doooo it!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

(Also because of the small part in Chef where the go through Texas)

Adding this to my list! If you ever pass through Luling TX check out City Market. Delicious local bbq cooked over post oak in pit like this

8 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 0

Best links around!

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Luling had the only open tire shop on a Sunday when I was heading back to Houston from San Antonio a few months ago and had a flat

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Coopers in Llano. I challenge you.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Looks tasty! Favoriting all these for next time we go camping out that direction. Thanks for the recommendation!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The Meat Market in Giddings just West of the train tracks - go go go. It is so unsanitary it is scary, but beats the Salt Lick and Coop's

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This place is on my bucket list

8 years ago | Likes 51 Dislikes 1

I go there every year. Would go again. I give it a 5/7

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I go often, it's pretty good but I've had better.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It’s okay. A lot of hype. Source- I lived in Austin for 11 years

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I would definitely stick with their ribs. Phenomenal. Everything else was pretty on par with the rest of Texas BBQ

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Please check out bbq that is actually good in Texas. Salt lick cannot hold a candle to actual bbq

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Went there last year. Top 3 best BBQ places I’ve been to. Others are in Tulsa, OK & St. Louis, Missouri.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Me too, I wanna eat their brisket til I explode.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

You know you're really out in the sticks with place names like "saltlick" and "driftwood".

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Keep going south about 30ish miles to Blacks in Lockhart...

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Blacks is the effing shit. Went there after my brothers bachelor party last year.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's worthy of a visit, but there is much better out there. Corkscrew in Spring is my favorite.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Added to my list

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Would love to come to Texas one day just for the food. What’s better Blacks or Kreuz?

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Both

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I hear great things about Kreuz as well

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Its aight, you can make briscut as good with some trial and error and a pellet smoker at home.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 5

Have a Weber Smokey Mountain and make Lexington style pulled pork on the regular. Haven’t ventured into poultry and beef yet.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Why would I trust someone who can't even spell brisket

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Because i know people who worked in the kichten at this place and live in austin and you shouldnt make judgements off of typos you douche.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Woah woah it was a joke

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0
