And now I fear trees

Damn that poem gave me *ugh*.. gave me shivers...

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

10 years to read that poem though

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Obligatory Tolkien upvote, though that poem would get one anyway

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

DUUUUDE, THEY SHOULD TOTALLY DO LIKE A MINI SERIES OF WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF DIFFERENT PEOPLE WORE THE RING!!

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

So it would pretty much be Etrian Odyssey.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No one is gonna mention that that art is from Ergo Proxy?

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I've played Tiny Tina's Assault On Dragon Keep, I know what Ents are like when they go bad.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As a huge Tolkien fan, I absolutely love this...

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Anyone else thinking of the redneck tree? http://www.somethingpositive.net/arch/sp05042002.gif

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Oh look, a 3.5 monster out of a blue campaign. terrible will and ref for a CR 8. would get crushed by any spell caster.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Lucky for redneck trees that you are not a spellcaster.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Holy fuck, this guy is the greatest poet of our time...

11 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 7

You haven't read much poetry, have you?

11 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Eh... Not much of a poet lover

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

HE WOULD CONQUER MIDDLE EARTH...sometime in the next 5-10 centuries...orcs would die waiting for their orders. entire generations would 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

grow up, NOT KNOWING WHAT THE START OF THEIR ORDERS WERE.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

nothing would happen because the Ents were not one of the major races the ring was originally created to enslave.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Neither were Hobbits, and Bilbo/Frodo/Smeagol had some major issues after bearing the ring for a while.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I thought so too, and had a loong debate with my wife... she claims hobbits technically fall under the 'Men' category...

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes, but Wizards are Maiar, and they were affected/wary of the ring, and Sauron didn't create any rings for them.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

oooh- touche! Perhaps, though, it's because they are Maiar. Sauron is/was one. Either way, well played!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How are they going to solve the Lady Ent problem even if they had the One Ring?

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I always thought both the books and the movies lightly alluded to the possibility that the entwives were near the shire.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I never got this impression. What makes you think so?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nothing specific, just a general sense when hobbits spoke of the forest around The shire and the way they questioned 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yesterday upon the stair, I met a main who wasn't there. He wasn't there again, today. I wish, I wish, he'd go away.

11 years ago | Likes 105 Dislikes 1

ah. 'The Yehudi Principle'

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's one of my favorite poems. :)

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

If you proofread carefully, you'll know why I read this in an exaggerated Mexican accent.

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Yeeeeeahh I saw it when I logged in today.. My instinct is to delete and the repost but the effect apparently went across anyway.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah I didn't even notice and read it as "man" haha

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I just saw that my phone changed man to main.. :p kinda takes away from the creepiness a lil bit.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Naw, the man just had an Irish accent.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I'm in the middle of some random insomnia and this fucked me up, dude.

11 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

Then you shouldn't see the picture that went with this in the Scary Stories book. It's the stuff of nightmares. http://i.imgur.com/2Pcoz.gi

It was tragic that she died so young. She would've grown into a wonderful actress.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

She died when she was about 12/13. Before the 3rd Poltergeist film was realeased. She had a bad heart or something

Yeah that tumblr person is not the original author https://www.fictionpress.com/s/3222103/1/If-an-Ent-got-the-One-Ring this is.

11 years ago | Likes 181 Dislikes 14

Props to you home dizzle

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

It's also a case of which came first. The post or the fiction press entry?

11 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

yeah no, the fictionpress thing is dated november 2014. this has been around a year, minimum.

11 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

Comment cause of amount of awesome.

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

Thank you for this

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Have any of you ACTUALLY read the two towers? Treebeard says this, so the author is tolkein not some dumbass blogger

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

I just checked, this isn't anywhere in the text of the Two Towers

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Actually the timestamp of the tumblr post is older than the fictionpress post.

11 years ago | Likes 47 Dislikes 0

How do you find time stamps on tumblr.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It should be right next to the post of /when/ you posted it; you can see it on mostly every tumblr blog.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Some of the additional stuff on the full poem I don't like as much as the short one anyway. Why is the end eerie?

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

They wouldn't care to touch it. The Ents are old and powerful as hell. They would likely be very reaistant to the ring. Plus, 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 4

If they did get corrupted, the world would just become more heavily forested. Now, if Shelob got the ring...

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

She would make Australia?

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

"NNNEEERD!" -- H. Simpson. I kid, I kid. But I just couldn't help reading your comment in a classic squeaky geek voice with a slight lisp ;)

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

How did you know how I talk!? That's amazing!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I would point out that Gandalf, Saruman and Galadriel were all older than most, if not all the Ents; and they feared to take the ring.

11 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

True enough, but I understood their hesitation to be fear of their own pride and ambition. The Ents, like the Hobbits, desire only peace

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Not to mention they don't really do anything quickly. So even if they were able to be corrupted by the ring, it'd be damn slow.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Ent with the ring 400 years later. "Huh. Maybe I should think about doing something with this. Take over maybe? Let me think about that"

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You are partly right. But the Ents are indeed powerful creatures. Thus the ring would corrupt them quicker and emphasize their powers. 1/?

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Fair points, but the Ents don't want what we want. I think they would corrupt slowly because they never have looked for conflict.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

true.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Powerful, but slower to desire and to act. They might be more akin to glaciers than a tsunami.

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

This would indeed lead to a lot of forestation but propably more of a vile type. Poisonous plants and as you propably know ents can 2/?

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

essentially kind of mobilize forests so you could actually use that in attacking. An Ent is a powerful ally with emphasized powers. 3/4

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hm. I got from the books that ents can shepherd/guide the trees in the forest, but that the forest could have its own, divergent plans.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You're missing the point of the whole story. The only one who could safely bare the ring was a hobbit, because they lack power.

11 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 2

Dwarves are kinda resistant to the rings as well.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Actually, the rings made them even greedier than they already were...

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Resistant =/= Immune. Humans with rings invariably turned to Wraiths. Not so with Dwarves, they just got a little greedier.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But didn't give Sauron sway over them. Hence resistant.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Tom Bombadil could have, he didn't care just like an ent wouldn't care.

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Yeah, Gandalf says at the Council I think, if they gave it to Tom he'd just treat it like a normal ring and probably lose it

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I'm with you on this one. Ents wouldn't be bothered by it, I don't think.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Iunno. It tempts the bearers with visions of what they want most- for Sam, it was all of Mordor covered in an ocean of flowers. I see (1/?)

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

no reason it couldn't have tempted them with... Finding the Entwives, covering the world with forests, stuff like that. (2/2)

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And even they get pretty fucked up eventually.

11 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Tom Bombado

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Better comparison would be Galadriel or Gandalf, both of whom fear what the Ring would do to them. Bombadil is likely Eru Ilúvatar.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's not that they lack power. They lack the ambition for power. They have the abilities they have, and are content with that.

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Which is why an ent would be very resistant to it as well, maybe even more so.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Then why didn't Gandalf choose an ent as ring bearer?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Could hardly sneak a fucking ent into Mordor. I agree with you though, ents aren't immune.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

An Ent would actually fall to the temptation, given the time. They would want to find the Ent Wives, and spread the trees as they once were.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

2 things though. An Ent would not likely even want the ring or its power. And the ring would sense this, and not try to draw the Ent in.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The ent would be corrupted and eventually would lead itself to Sauron where the ring will betray the ent and Sauron would take it.

11 years ago | Likes 290 Dislikes 5

Luckily it would take about ten thousand years to come to that conclusion.

11 years ago | Likes 176 Dislikes 1

wtf those movies are long enough as is

11 years ago | Likes 59 Dislikes 1

I'd watch the extended edition. I'm all for more middle earth.

11 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

I thought I was too until I saw the Hobbit.

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Nah just give it to us anyway

11 years ago | Likes 57 Dislikes 1

I wish more people saw this

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Beats. Bears. Battlestar Galactica.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Go me.

11 years ago | Likes 44 Dislikes 1

You rule

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

The Ents would be uninterested as Tommy B is. Their magic is older and they have no desire for such trinkets.

11 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

Sauron is older than the Ents :X Elves, Men, and Dwarves are older than the rings. I think they could become corrupted as well

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The Ents would not touch it likely for the same reasons the Eagles would not.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Source? The Istari are older than the ents and they want the ring, I was under the impression Bombadil was unique.

11 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Two prominent theories are that Tom Bombadil is one of the Valar, or possibly a 'nature spirit' of some sort.

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

He claims to be older than the world itself, making him a maiar or valar (or even Eru) if he's honest. No reason to think ents are immune

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Or even Tolkein.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

My favorite theory: Bombadil is Eru Illuvitar himself. Why? Why not?

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Actually that wouldnt happen because the ents dont want the ring and it has no effect on them because theyre one of the oldest things there

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 5

The elves woke the ents, didn't they?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Source please.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

ok, i thought i knew that, but apparently i was lied to, but i have come to the conclusion that ents did not want the ring because if (1/?)

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

they did they would probably be able to get it, being large tree creatures, and their creation is shrouded in mystery but if they were (2/3)

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Created from trees then one would assume it had no effect because theyre just trees, if they were created fromnothingthenitcouldhaveaneffect
