My GF ripped her bumper, would have cost more than the car was worth to have it repaired. So I watched some instructional videos and tried doing it myself. (Black specs in the pics are cracks on my camera lense.)

Using epoxy and mesh for strength.

Body filler for the front and sanding.

Would have painted the whole bumper so there wouldn't be any lines but GF said I was taking to long lol.

Primer

Paint and gloss.

Final result. Surprisingly the only visible parts were the unpainted portion on the black plastic at the bottom and a slight line where the paint stopped.

You did a very nice job!

How much instant noodles did u use?

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Good. But, ramen would have been better

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Should have used ramen.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Not bad for a first attempt, I feel like if I tried that the bumper would be fixed, but I'd break the car somehow in the process.

You can't hurt those old Toyotas. Fill the gas tank with maple syrup. It still starts on the first try.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Yeah I wouldn't have tried this on a car that was actually worth something. You might surprise yourself with instructional videos like I did

6 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

Well it may not be worth much, but at least it'll run until the heat death of the universe.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It has been repaired, much like my soul following a recent failed relationship. Hopefully it holds up in another fender bender.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

All that was damaged was the plastic shell, the bumpers crumple zone is intact.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I meant my soul.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Good job! Wouldn't have guessed first attempt!

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

First and probably last. The cars I own now I probably won't attempt this on.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

First attempt? Nicely done.

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I usually just go to a junk yard and get a replacement bumper and paint it. I would think 200 or $250. But yours is better!

I need a girlfriend that has all the perks and qualities of a handyman, like a butch chick that isn't a lesbian, or maybe I'll go gay.

My first car was held together by zip ties, duct tape and positive thinking. It was a Ford though, so it came off the assembly line that way

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Next time just pull the whole bumper(takes like 10 minutes), and then paint the whole thing.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That was the initial plan, but my GF wanted to be able to drive again. She was fine with the tape but I wanted to repair it

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Wet sand and buff to get rid of the lines. It helps to feather the edges but you my have to buff to whole bumper to make it look decent

Anyone else disappointed in the lack of ramen noodles?

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thought it was going to be the zip-tie Frankenstein scar. Impressive.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That looks fine.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Woa good job! :D

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I’ve done repairs with close to the success as yours, but not quite. How much will you charge? ?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Be cautious of the gf that complains you are taNice job. king too long to fix her mistake.

6 years ago | Likes 59 Dislikes 3

Do you need a bondulance?

6 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

It took me about a week working on a few hours a day. All that time she was without a vehicle. She wasn't rude about it though.

6 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 2

Plot twist: your girlfriend hit somebody and needed you to cover up the evidence.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This comment, plus the final result picture above...are you sure you aren't an actual body shop that gained sentience and started posting?

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Yeah that's pretty long lol

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And no Ramen used

But like three rolls of flex tape on the back.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

6 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

in the beginning there was corolla.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I had a 97 Corolla wagon that I still regret selling. It basically turning to dust due to road salt rust, though.

Good stuff!

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Taking too long? I would have stopped right there and told her to fix it her fucking self, she's the one who fucked it up.

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

Calm down bud. She was probably fine with it broken in the first place, and didn't want to keep driving without a bumper.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

To be fair, it was my idea to repair it, and it prevented her from being able to drive for a week.

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Had a shop been hired to do the repair, it would have taken at least a week, probably longer. Nice work. She owes you big time.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Fantastic job! Warning though, we had a 6 month old car get damaged and professionally repaired (insurance job), the paint was a perfect

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

match -for about 3 or 4 years. Then the clear coat started to flake off. It was the whole hood of the car (a roof load of snow fell on it).

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I suspect it wasn’t the best clear coat quality. But, matching a brand new car’s paint and expecting it to last just didn’t. Good LUCK!

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I would be concerned about the body filler not flexing as much as the bumper does as there are different fillers for plastics and metal ....

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Could literally pop right off

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It could, but in my experience, it doesn't just randomly do it. might get stone-chipped though, that was an issue I had.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Depends on where he lives as well, how much the temperature fluctuates and how well he abraded the surfce before applying and with what grt

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This looks really well done op. I'm mostly impressed that you matched the paint so well.

6 years ago | Likes 578 Dislikes 2

He just repainted the whole car

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's a trick. The last photo is from before the accident.

I guess /s was needed

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Well now this is irrelevant. You have all made me a fool.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Who's this crazy guy in the comments talking to himself?

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Oh hey, thanks for joining. Welcome.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I was surprised as well. It was just cheap off the shelf paint that had the same color code as the car.

6 years ago | Likes 126 Dislikes 0

Killed it bro

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

most dont realize color codes are universal from rattle cans. like YZ white is standard white ford color

6 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Well done - Very well done

6 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

Or for $250 you could have had a new color matched bumper delivered to your door.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Color matched or prepainted? I got a prepainted spoiler that was the same color code (3J6) but it didn’t exactly match due to sun damage.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

If it's the same color code it's color matched. Are you implying they can match the sun damage on your car?
