Fuck the current government, fuck the Republicans, fuck all their voters, fuck everyone who still treats them as if they were decent people and not deadly threats to all of humanity.
While I welcome anyone cancelling any tourism in the US, remember for that the previous two cups in Qatar and Russia we saw the same virtue signalling about 'No one will attend because the host country is horrible' and cup fans still attended. Soccer fans don't really care; they only care about themselves and their team and quite a few of them love the attention attending a shitstorm brings them.
Uh huh. World Cup fans don't give a shit about geopolotics. They want to beat their rival country at all costs. That is very closely aligned with Trump's view of things so don't pin your hopes on them.
Fellow americans, I'm curious, genuinely not try to troll. Usually, when this happens outside US, your government declares you have to bomb somewhere in that country to make a statement, arrest the president, restore democracy. Would you be ok if some other country invaded US to resolve the current situation?
I honestly think it would make things so much worse, but I reject our practice of doing it and recognize we’re doing irreparable harm, to the countries we’re targeting and to the international community and our standing in it. We have no moral high ground.
Back in better days, as Finnish nationals, we've enjoyed several long road trips in the United States, to places like Yellowstone, Glacier National Park, and the Pacific Coast Highway. The natural vistas were wonderful, and so were the people we met. Unfortunately I can't see any such trips in the future, just like I can't imagine visiting Russia or the PRC, unless the political situation radically changes.
I work in manufacturing, with factories in the US and Mexico. Within the last year, it’s become safer to send American workers to visit factories in Mexico for projects than vice versa. Don’t get me wrong, I still have safety protocols I need to follow when I visit MX, but I know how to stay safe. Visiting the US has become a minefield for legal, temporary guests from MX (especially visiting a red state where lots of the factory workers have the “they took our jobs” attitude.)
Really it's been clear that it isn't worth trying to visit here since COVID. Our abysmal response is enough to know it's not a good idea to be around us -.- Now it's just gotten worse...
Things were bouncing back under Biden. Did he do everything perfectly? No, he did not. Regardless, the economy was bouncing back remarkably, deaths from fentanyl overdose were dropping dramatically, we made headway with LGBTQ+ rights, we were on an upswing. Would it have continued under Harris? We'll never know because Trump undid any and all progress starting from day one.
Oh I agree. But I still think the issue with wanting to visit here lies a lot with a large portion of the general public being more and more selfish egotists who are like an anxious dog in a corner. You never know if they will decide to randomly bite you. It's just now they were all given jobs with a world military budget.
My comments in the past month alone on this platform, although technically fully protected by the first amendment, would get me locked up under the fascist regime currently running your country.
Same here, Dutch white dude with a life-time visa for the USA. Spend several holidays totalling probably over half a year there. Not going back any time soon.
It's a pain in the ass to arrange travel itineraries that circumvent U.S. territory, and both Canada & Mexico are critical bridges for trans-Pacific/Atlantic travel across the continent when traveling West or East from Europe or Asia. The Great White North is probably going to be seeing a lot more airlines routing through its airspace for the next couple of years (assuming that Trump doesn't cancel the next Federal elections and extend his tenure as POTUS).
I live in Seattle and i already miss traveling to Canada. Why? Returning here isn’t safe even if I go to a place I’ve been OFTEN. DHS is completely out of control, anyone outside the country should not come here and anyone who lives here is terrified of the return inspection by the Trump Gestapo
I'm a white dude IN the US and I'm notnfeeling safe. The only saving grace at the moment is I am in California and trump is too chickenshit to send his goons here in force.
redtruck
I'm afraid to visit. I'm a member of the Canadian Gang. Some nut might see my license plate and decide I'm a tariff threat and take me out.
mksu
Even if you feel safe, don't come here to avoid giving us the economic boost from your tourism.
DaisyfromDownunder
I cancelled my plans to visit disneyland and across the US because of its Mickey Mouse government
kurvarVillain
If the players would boycott the event, there would be REAL change.
PJamz
I definetly will not set foot in america anytime soon... fuck eveything about this american administration right now.
Starfox5

slightlybrokenegg
Yes literally everyone should cancel any plans they have to visit period.
mikeatike
Smart. I dont know how many Europeans will deny FIFA since they are happy to support dictators and corrupt governments. Nobody seems to care.
Blackthorn74
By the time of these games they will be televising ICE hunting people for sport.
Rueguy
This will keep getting worse and worse until Americans are getting shot daily. Kill trump

For those curious about the UN logo he's standing in front of, he's a Lebanese diplomat.

There's also the being refused entry if you've ever posted anything on social media that's critical of the Orange Stain in the White House.
Jagshusband
Everyone should blacklist America. It’s one of them shithole countries.
jaydude22
World junior hockey tournament tickets are sold out and yet on tv I don’t see a lot of fans in stands at American games.
jridley
That's not actually going to happen. By the time the World Cup is here, they'll just be shooting you. Prison and deportation is too much hassle.

especially if your name is mohamed

It’s not even safe for Renees and Alexes.

With that name no you're not unfortunately.
SedatedSl0th
To visit? Shit it’s not a safe place to live.
LamarTrillington
Hopefully he's the first of many. Let the whole world see how reviled America is in 2026.
Hukkie
Even if the next president is a democrat and ICE gets taken out behind the woodshed and.... sent to the family farm, I would not visit america.
It will take at best take decades to build back the trust that has been lost in the last year, if it is even possible at all.
egoAristippos
Yeah, will be aTV only event for me as well. Like Qatar, I am not spending a lot of time and money for an artificial tournament.
It‘s different where people feel it, like South Africa, or Germany 2006 those are big emotions on the street.
USA doesn’t have football culture, and now it’s even unsafe to go there.
jrntn
Why would anyone visit the US right now when they can just book their own trip to El Salvador for less money

Some people won't attend because of those stances. Their personal concerns and beliefs are still valid even if they aren't universally shared.

If I didn't live here I sure in the fuck wouldn't travel here. I've been saying that for a year, and it's just gotten worse in that time frame.
We can't keep anyone traveling here safe. We can't even keep people living here, citizen or not, safe.
Heisanevilgenius
I used to visit the US once or twice a year. I am not setting foot in the country until things are RADICALLY different.

From what I'm understanding, this ONE tweet caused such a ripple in the community that it led to financial panic for FIFA apparently.

The news has been so focused on here. How bad are the shakedowns on those returning? Are they literally ripping apart every car that comes through?
