Hanging pictures with those cables on the back? Just put a fork with the handle up and tines holding the hook and you can slip it right on and remove the fork.

What a useless trick.

Like I could afford a house

18 hours ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

my dad didnt teach me the garbage bag trick because he knew how jankie that is. plastic gonna keep wanting to wrap on the roller. What does work, beside paint tray liners is to use the garbage bag when you stop but have more painting to do by putting the roller and the tray and any brush you are using inside the garbage bag and wrap it tightly. it will keep it from drying out

Time for my annual viewing of the Linus Paint Rant.

18 hours ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Your grandpa taught you to put waaaaayy too much paint on your brush?

19 hours ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

uhm all paint buckets already come with a built in edge to pull your brush against. *mindblown*

22 hours ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Gonna send this to the landlord who doesn't believe in painters tape

1 day ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah my dad didn't teach me this. He was a professional painter and I worked with him plenty. He probably didn't teach me because these are stupid ideas

19 hours ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Great, more wasted plastic in the world

1 day ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

Misunderstood directions. Drank wine. Went to sleep.

23 hours ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm trying really hard to give these the benefit of the doubt, but I'm struggling. By the third hack, we're in full-on 5-minute Crafts territory already with using the roller to apply tape.

23 hours ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

That tape is wayyyy to expensive to be throwing around like they do here

22 hours ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Those are some of the dumbest things I've ever seen.

1 day ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 5

Bless you sir or ma'am.

Very curious how a post that seems to have almost unanimously negative comments is the most upvoted thing I have seen on this site for months. Methinks this post was bought and paid for.

17 hours ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Lol idk. I was surprised it got the award. I just thought it was interesting

12 hours ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Many of them are stupid, but the first one absolutely takes the cake. After 5 minutes the stupid bag will stick so much to your roller you probably spill more paint in blind rage then you imagined possible.

20 hours ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

If I ever want to learn cool tricks from people who work at those specific things, imma find a video like this and post it. The real tips come from the comments here.

22 hours ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I do the same thing with my plates, utensils and cups. I never have to wash dishes.

18 hours ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I like the tape across the can trick, but you shouldn't ever paint directly out of the can. If you want that paint to keep, then put it into a smaller container. I've got a plastic container with a magnet to hold a brush I've had for 15 years. It cost like 5 bucks. Ensuring I didn't mix whatever is on the walls into my main paint bucket.

1 day ago | Likes 42 Dislikes 2

You buy a 1qt pail, put a liner in it, and toss the liner when you're done. Even if I'm using the entire gallon, I still use a 1QT pail with a side handle...Who wants to lug the entire gallon around?

14 hours ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I've always seen that trick done with a rubber band, but yes, never contaminate your stock container.

23 hours ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It works well for smaller pots, where you're not expecting to keep any 'leftover' paint. Like if you have a smaller tin of gloss for painting a door or some window trim. Or sample pots where you're just testing a few colours on big bits of cardboard.

1 day ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Why on earth are ppl still using paint trays? Get five gallon bucket and a rolling screen. Very cheap. Very easy

20 hours ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

If you are painting a bedroom and only need a gallon instead of 5. 5 gallons of paint costs around $200 these days.

19 hours ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I was referring to an empty five to pour into and work out of. Yes I realize how much paint costs because I'm a painter. It's just so much easier to work with and your not constantly refilling the tray

19 hours ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fair enough. Have you seen how much a 5-gallon bucket costs these days!

19 hours ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I used the last one yesterday. Roll the roller between your hands to see which way it walks. Never seen it before. Done plenty of rolleringing and often had to push the roller back on. Yesterday I didnt need to push it back on at all.

18 hours ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Rollers are not directional. If they slide off it's because you are pressing too hard and rolling away from the anchored side of the roller instead of into it.

23 hours ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Roller sleeves definitely need to be turned the right way to prevent them sliding off.

17 hours ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My dad would have yelled at me for using up a trash bag because those things ain't cheap.

1 day ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 2

I use a bag to put the tray, brushes and roller in the fridge (or freezer) between coats...

22 hours ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Honestly best thing i have done ever.. Had to paint the entire house before we moved in, because we had to do it slow, it took a week, and it would have been a pain in the ass if i had to wash everything every day 🥲

22 hours ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

I mean, they make liners shaped precisely for those trays...and they're less than $1 each

14 hours ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You can buy plastic liners for those trays now.

1 day ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

You can also just rinse them off while the paint is still wet; Nearly all paint a homeowner would buy from a big box store is water-based latex. If it's already dry you can just peel it right out of the pan.

That's a good title for your autobiography.

1 hour ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was leaning towards "Everything Sucks and I Want to Die" but your suggestion is bleak in a much more subtle, nuanced way.

1 hour ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's really annoying to do this. Just buy the disposable covers. Worth it

1 day ago | Likes 122 Dislikes 11

Yep, the plastic tray liners work super well and are pretty cheap.

1 day ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 2

Or just wash the tray out when you're done? I mean unless your doing several colors in the same room (in which case you have to switch rollers anyway) I didn't see why you need anything

23 hours ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Thick layers of paint tend to be easy to peel off anyway

23 hours ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

125% I've been forced to do the bag method on jobs before. The bag crinkles up, you end up with more waste than you'd think, blah blah blah. Just buy the liners online or at a hardware store

1 day ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

Unnecessary waste, efficiency and profits > other ppl, environment, your dignity. Very capitalist of you. Remember to vote for your pedo overlords like a good oligarchy wage slave!

There is grass outside, please go find it and touch it!!

21 hours ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Woooow... the level of passion displayed here is commendable, but really?
We're talking about disposable paint tray inserts vs. Another piece of plastic.

22 hours ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 1

What's funny is whether you use it or not it's still made out there.. these morons always have a "out of sight out of mind" mentality on "waste".. like just because you used a trash bag doesn't mean suddenly those liners weren't produced. Most of these "hacks" are weird crap that makes no real practical sense.

20 hours ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Let's leave the name calling aside, but yeah.
If anything I think the argument about the plastics in clothing would hold more water.
Switch to hemp or bamboo fiber, make clothing that lasts for 5 to 10 years. That would actually make a difference compared to how often your average person will paint something and use a trash bag.

But let's face it, that Switch isn't going to happen because profits would completely tank.

19 hours ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

I'll call people whatever I want. Act like a moron I'll call them a moron. If you have a problem with that too bad. Can't be bothered with the sensitive morons of the world nowadays.

Do I have to put it in a wine box first?

1 day ago | Likes 61 Dislikes 0

1 day ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

You also have to buy and drink all the wine before that too

Do NOT put the paint you were rolling with back into the can.

In this economy?

18 hours ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Just use a dollar store strainer and pour the paint through it when you go to use it, ask how I know, lmao

23 hours ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 1

But how will I save that 7¢

23 hours ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 3

Maybe he bought like 500 Games Workshop pots to fill his can.

22 hours ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

When's the last time you bought paint?

22 hours ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Couple years ago. 7¢ ain't that far off unless you're being super wasteful with how much paint you put in the roller tray to begin with.

16 hours ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

My initial thought was "keep the paint in the fridge until tomorrows painting"
Would never pour it back

22 hours ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Hmm all your food smelling like fresh paint

21 hours ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

For someone who never painted- why not? Bits contaminating the rest of the paint?

1 day ago | Likes 95 Dislikes 0

Some parts dry on the outer edge and that will also ruin your new paint job (you'll see bits on your newly painted wall)

23 hours ago | Likes 47 Dislikes 0

yep

Sometimes entire bytes, even.

23 hours ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 2

As a former house painter... We did none of these things.

1 day ago | Likes 621 Dislikes 1

What that a college pro job?

23 hours ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

When you pay full price or have a small business, I can see doing this.

1 day ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

fuck, they sell inserts. if you are going to waste plastic, might as well use plastic that fits the pan

13 hours ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Touch up pen looks like a fantastic way to make something look… touched up. At least give it a light sand to soften the edges.

2 hours ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Lol "oh no, I got paint on my tool specifically designed to hold paint"

10 hours ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But can you comment on their usefulness? Some seem pretty handy

21 hours ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

As a current house painter, the bagging the pan is pretty usefull sometimes, but mainly for keeping the pan clean, and I could see some use cases for the box thing.

19 hours ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Using specialized cleanup methods is generally a small job thing. A painting crew having to set these up for every person and color would take way more time than just doing a big clean at the end.

If im gonna use a drill in my house, I put down a tarp so I don't have to clean the floor after. Obviously a construction crew is going to go much faster if they dont do that, and just plan on sweeping up at the end

1 day ago | Likes 129 Dislikes 4

The tarp will take more time than just using a vacuum cleaner for the little bit of dust that drilling creates

19 hours ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Just make a masking tape pouch under the hole youre drilling. It catches almost everything and then mostly sticks to the tape. Its great for just a couple holes, otherwise ill just break out the vacuum.

18 hours ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I just use the vacuum cleaner. It's right there and requires no work. Just grab and flip on. Cordless little thing, have a few cheap ones in various parts of the house in drawers and stuff.

16 hours ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No actually we would put down drop cloths first. Unless the floor will be replaced later. You can ruin a floor by getting grit under your boots and grinding it into the floor.

1 day ago | Likes 69 Dislikes 3

You're correct but the spirit of what the other person said is still true. Also things like the first one shown.. liners exist for a reason instead of using a trash bag.

20 hours ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yeah bur the issue here is you having respect for quality control, other people, anything other than profit really. It's very anti capitalism of you, you socialist

22 hours ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

the new 6 years ago Behr plastic lid does not seal well. note the paint dripping down the can side. i'd estimate a million gallons r lost per year like this. that's why Behr developed the hole in the lid but the flimsy plastic didn't seal to the can well. i have 20 year old Behr paint still good/used for touch up. Behr is one of the few that hasn't fired CS for filipino CS. Behr has one of highest qualified CS i've encountered! Behr told me paint formation has drastically changed.

1 day ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

CS? Customer service? For paint. v

anyone living in US would know that over the last 15 years American citizens working CS in US have been fired by CEOs and it's mostly all (first india/pakastan now mostly all in PI. all the banks, healthcare, telecom. all this "savings" had been pocketed into higher CEO and board salaries. https://www.1840andco.com/blog/outsource-to-the-philippines

As an electrician; nobody does these things. The painters and drywallers are too drunk to bother with any of this. The plumbers are too high off glue fumes. The electricians are too busy grabbing each other's asses.

And only after that complete shitshow of y’all my dumbass walks into the site as the carpenter I am like: “what is that smell? Smells like love. Why is everything so messy? Does anyone ever clean up after themselves?”

22 hours ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Real talk, I always feel bad not cleaning up, but most of the GCs explicitly tell us not to because we're too expensive to be pushing a broom. Cheap bastards would rather hire day labor than make the site cleaner and safer for everyone.

22 hours ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hey you know how many paint jobs I had to touch up because the electricians or the carpenters wouldn't wash their fucking hands?
