“Just a simple redraw”

Aug 13, 2025 11:35 AM

Facing the prospect of losing control of the House of Representatives during next year’s midterm elections, Trump has pressured several red states to immediately redraw their congressional districts to give Republicans an advantage.

Newsom then followed up Tuesday with a trolling all-caps post saying Trump had 24 hours to respond to his letter, and when that failed, he went full MAGA, writing in a social media post:

Democrats vowed to retaliate in states like California, New York and Illinois, prompting Republicans to eye states like Republican-controlled states such as Ohio and Indiana.

Newsom to Trump & Abbott. If Abbott grabs 5 seats, I will have Calif grab 9 seats. I win!

This is pretty funny, and I think fighting fire with fire is going to be the only way to slow the speed at which we're tumbling into fully fledged authoritarianism, but Newsom's still a prick and doesn't actually give a fuck about the real working class.

Yeah I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, politicians protect their own at the end of the day and working class are always the ones left out of the decisions

We're already there, we were last Nov, this is the escalation phase before the hard take over.

7 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

no offense, I hate trump, but my dick gets flaccid when I read "this is your second-to-last warning!!!(the next one is the last)"
Is that the most fight the democrats can put up right now?
to clarify: I am not saying that gavin is doing bad, I am saying that the entire democratic party isn't doing enough.

Agreed. It gives me the same vibes as Trumps “two more weeks” comments on tariffs. I wish people would stop giving him chances to fight back and just own him for once.

Let's ungerrymander Wisconsin too! Any state with a Dem Governor will do the same, it'll be stupid, he will issue this to be a national emergency and take over with martial law. Calling it now.

7 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Every blue state needs to do this. Beat them with their own rules or the rules will never change.

7 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Arizona could become very blue very quickly of the three cities 2 are always blue, and one is usually split leaning red.

7 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

At least fighting back shows that they give somewhat of a shit. I’d love to see more people at least try

7 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It won’t save them. They’re all cooked and they know it. This just reeks of fear and desperation.

7 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 21

Yep—that’s what the Texas redistricting is exactly.

7 months ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Newsom 2028.

7 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 4

Hell fucking no. Any other democrat but not that fucking DINO.

7 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I dunno, I just feel like the Republicans should be able to win on their stellar policies or something

7 months ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 1

It’s almost as if they’re starting to lose faith in their rock solid principles that they run on

7 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And what tools does the Californian governor have to stop that?

7 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They’ll basically set it back to even. The threat is pretty much is Texas adds 5 they’ll do the same thing and take away 5.

7 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If California redistricts they'll offset any gains Texas has in the house and senate.

7 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Sounds reasonable

7 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'll give Newsom credit, he's pushing back when it counts. He may be an unprincipled, fascist-ass-kissing slimeball who needs to be kept FAR from the White House, but at least he's rising to the occasion here.

7 months ago | Likes 71 Dislikes 5

I say don't even wait for texas. Just do it anyway

7 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Democrat or republican, it’s still a class war that’s the issue. Not a culture war.

7 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

^ This guy gets it!

Gavin Newsom is an opportunistic fuck who deserves to be flushed down the toilet... Right after we use him like a condom to fuck Trump's ass

A horrendous day to have mental images.

This meme runs counter to my statement above, but it's so... vivid... I am called to share it.

7 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't know much about Newsome, but the mocking tweet is outstanding work.

7 months ago | Likes 117 Dislikes 1

It’s about time someone talked to him the way he talks to America. I hope he thinks it looks ridiculous

7 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The all-caps was a nice touch.

7 months ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

I hate it, because to me it signals a potential to slide into the same bullshit.

7 months ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 6

It's a press office account, there's probably like a 23 year old running it. Gerrymander the shit out of California though, fuck it, it's only fair.

7 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Because taking the high road has worked so well?

7 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

No, it hasn't, but I still fear that this will work out worse. I understand why people feel this is good, and I may be wrong about it, I hope I am in fact, and that it works, but I just don't see it playing out in any good way.

7 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I mean, we can also hate that it hasn't when it really should have, but yeah.

Married oil, and a ‘Rules for thee, not for me’ type of guy. Would violate quarantines to have parties etc.

Typical politician but not maga. So, it’s something.

7 months ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 3

Yeah—CA aren’t big fans of him either. Don’t forget he had Steve Bannon on his podcast and didn’t push back when he claimed election denialism. He’s flirted with some MAGA appeasement and he just feels slimy.

7 months ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

i'm not in CA, but just going off his hairstyle it feels like they elected a used car salesman as governor.

7 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Seems to have more anti maga fight in him than most, perhaps people can change

7 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ew. Yeah I’m happy he’s fighting back but I think he fancies himself President of California.

7 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

He’s had obvious presidential aspirations for the past year or two. Considering the sorry state of affairs the Dems are in, he’s sure to get the nomination, too.

7 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Take what you can, and then vote him out once the bigger threat is dealt with. The same with any on team blue. We have to band together but that doesn't mean our issues with Dem leaders are over just because of that.

7 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Newsome hates the homeless and he's a transphobe. He's a bully who's picking on the other bully. He's a cunt, and I'll be campaigning hard against him in the 2028 dem primary.

7 months ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

The enemy of my enemy, in this case...

7 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Well, at least vote for him in the general if he wins the primaries.

7 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Well, I wouldn't so much vote *for* him, so much as vote *against* the other guy. My ballot would look the same, but... ugh. I don't even want to consider the possibility.

7 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I hear ya

7 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Unless the Dems come up with a better candidate that can sway some voters on the right, you might as well just campaign for the GOP. We need to get behind a candidate and not let internal dissension rule. Whomever it is won’t be perfect, but they’ll be better than what we have … and for the record Newsom is my governor and I think he’s a lying sleazy tool with too much hair gel … but if he’s the chosen candidate I’ll stump for him for now.

7 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Democrats have been running centrists for years and it's gotten us nowhere. This myth of swayable voters on the right has cost us enough elections. How about a real leftist who can get out the vote with exciting new ideas?

7 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ideally that would be great. Realistically, I fear it would alienate enough folks on the center left to vote 3rd party (or not vote at all … see 2024) that it would just hand the GOP another victory. We need a strong centrist candidate in the Oval Office and an overwhelming majority in congress that then just CRUSHES social issues hard to break the cycle. Sadly, I doubt the dems can all get on the same team long enough to make it happen.

You expect the far left to drink the "vote blue no matter who" kool-aid. Why not make the center left drink it?
