Maybe the Best Whisky ever, after 37years the tyrant is gone. Celebrate long and hard Zimbabweans

My whole life I have known nothing but his rule, I couldn’t live in my own country of birth because of him. I shed tears sipping on this. It’s 3am you beautiful bastards up at this time and manning usersub! F.P Edit This is a historic moment for Zimbabwe, so wow thank you. Open your finest Whisky cause there’s never been a better time. Send me pictures of your Doggos and Cats!

Happy for you, but an 18 year old scotch is no place for ice.

But why is there ice in it..

A Scotsman review of this Glenlivet: https://youtu.be/YCqGamtJWp0

It says a lot that you didn't consider he would lose his reign in any way but his death.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So did the cork deteriorate or did it break off when you opened it? Bummer either way....

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Excellent, enjoy your drink! v

Glengoolie bottles look an awful lot like Glenfiddich bottles. I know because I drink Glenfiddich regularly

As a fellow Zimbo, I feel your relief and hope for the future.. Albeit cautious. Drink hard and drink long my friend. Makorokoto shamwari!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I had a similar cork failure a few months ago on my Glen 18. I was able to extract it with a paperclip wire bent 60° off straight.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ice in an 18 year scotch. It hurts my soul.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Good choice of whiskey.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I’m relevant again.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

You, uh, you need to decant that. With a sieve.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

As a fellow whisky lover and anti tyrant: Cheers, good sir!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Careful dude. There's many vultures circling around, scoping to take his place.

8 years ago | Likes 1343 Dislikes 7

Let the man enjoy his drink...

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

that's fine, OP could be an alcoholic and have bottles for all of them. 'always look on the bright side of life....' que music

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Let the guy celebrate for a minute people !!

8 years ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 2

A minute for a bottle of whiskey is both wasteful and impressive.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nature abhors a vacuum, especially a power vacuum.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But on the bright side ... whiskey

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

*Whisky. That's proper Scotch son.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

My bad, I only can only distinguish Cider & NOT Cider :)

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just part of your education. You learned something, that makes it a productive day!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, not to piss on anyone's parade, but I don't think it's going to get any better. Things could get way worse now that he's gone.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My money is on a new cunt stepping into the old cunts shoes. But I pray I'm wrong:(

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 5

In these situations a tyrant is often replaced by an even worse won. Let's hope history doesn't repeat itself

8 years ago | Likes 190 Dislikes 10

it always does.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

A worse one won't be able to sustain a government, Zimbabwe was practically broke before the coup, might definitely be now

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Yeah this definitely feels like a "well it couldn't be worse" "..hold my beer" type-situation

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Thanks for that lesson! You are so smart, let him enjoy his drink ok

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Most suspect his likely successor won't be great in civil liberties, but will undo the measures he made that wrecked he economy. Partial win

8 years ago | Likes 57 Dislikes 2

Super nice thing to say, so smart you! Ok let him enjoy his drink

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

People have seen too many movies. The way out of deep shit isn't glorious, it's a slow ascension through progressively shallower shit.

8 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 1

a realist on the internet,

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Hard to call that a win. Prosperity without civil liberties is no way to have to live.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

The reverse, civil liberties without prosperity, is a sure recipe for disaster.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I want a slice of Zimbabwe

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

I've been watching Sabrina all day. I forgot how corny it is.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I’m nervous about Mnangagwa though. A little too much of the same

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

He looks like a bad guy in any superhero movie

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Had some trouble with the cork did ya?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The tyrant who ended Rhodesia and ruined Zimbabwe is succeeded by the killer who faithfully planned and executed his most bloody excesses.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Note to some who can't and won't understand. Rhodesia created Mugabe. Abused children often grow up to be abusive parents.

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 3

Make Rhodesia Great Again!

8 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 8

And to think, that dram spent 18 years ageing just for this guy to put ice in it. Congrats on deposing Mugabe all the same

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Props for Glenlivet.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Issues with the cork?

8 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

The screw-top on top of the cork can be confusing and many people will twist instead of pull, causing what we see here.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Strain it out with cheesecloth then put whiskey back

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Going to have to finish the bottle in one night!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's why you store wine or scotch horizontally. That way it doesn't dry out.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 4

i was always told u should not store it horiz, cause of the taste it gets from the cork - still it makes sense what u say

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

you should store liquor upright since the 40%+ alc/vol will dry the cork out. wine should be stored horizontally though.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Nooo. Only wine. The higher alcohol content of whiskey will eat the cork and kill the whiskey.

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Thanks for the info. Is there anything I can do to keep the cork from drying?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Wax! Wax it good, babe!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Drink it all in one night

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I wasn't craving my 18yr Glenivet, but I am now. Raising my glass to you.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Amen.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've got some 12 year Glenfiddich. I'll join the toast

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

But he's not dead yet...

8 years ago | Likes 78 Dislikes 5

Political death maybe?

8 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

He can dance and he can sing?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

With his reputation many may have considered his death being the only way his rule would end.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well, he is really old

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Pour it back in the bottle and wait a little longer

8 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 2

Never pour back into the bottle.

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

He'll be stone dead in a moment!

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

"I feel happy! I feel happy!"

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I don't know anything about this, but I'll raise a glass with you anyway! I don't drink, but I do have some Mountain Dew. That alright?

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's the thought that counts. :)

Just had the Glenlivet 25 at a tasting, it was the worse in the lineup, even a bowmore 18 and glenfarclas/laophraig 15 was better @OP

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So when do you start to rebuild

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's better to drink to his death while he's alive. Insult to injury.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Don't miss the reign don't in Africa, I take it? You picked a damned good Scotch to celebrate with. Look me up in Toronto, if you're there.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'll raise you a glass of Caol Ila to that, not that I need a reason to drink it but still! :)

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh I wish I could have some whiskey.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Great whiskey. I'll raise a glass to you and Zimbabwe tonight.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Drinking a glass of Lagavulin 15 with my gf for your future and the future of Zimbabwe. Greetings from Berlin!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also had a bloody good scotch tonight! Cheers shumwari!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

"I'm not dead yet!"

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Lord Aubergine should be chosen! I have cast my vote!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hey ready for another mugabe....

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Zimbabwe might not be fully free yet but it's the most free the country has been since the British invasion.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Worse will take his place. He had no strong successor, I expect a bloody war or restoration period.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

ok, but the box says on his death... put it back.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

That's because no one ever thought he'd resign. The only way to get rid of him (we thought) was death.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

BUT THE BOX SAYS

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Certainly a good day for Rhodesia. Will be interesting to see who fills his shoes though.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Isn't the VP the military brought back even more violent?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Socialism sucks.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

How is this downvoted?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Wish you best of luck. BEWARE rest of government not going including his worst henchman

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Fucking stoked for you peeps, hopefully things will start getting better

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Get you some Lagavulin, my friend!

8 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

I'm a fan of Balvenie 21. Port aged. mmmm...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I had an exceptional Bruichladdich Classic Laddie last week. Pretty amazing for under $50 USD.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I was gonna say the same! My personal favourite, good God what a thing to taste...

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

So? Now you have another dictator soon?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Hopefully not, but it's not long shot either. Time will tell

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yes sorry for my negativity, enjoy the whiskey cheers :)

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Is that the rafiki dude?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

former president/tyrant of zimbabwe. Was just forced out by the military.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ohhh

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Close enough, my friend, close enough

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The real victory here is that Grace is gone too.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Where have you been living OP?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Australia ???????? I have been back 10 times in 14 years. I still have family there and friends!

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Can your elaborate, not all of us know the history of Zimbabwe.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

look it up, google is right at your fingertips

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Mugabe was a revolutionary leader turned tyrant. He's just been forced out by the military. Listen to NPR & you'll learn the history.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I’ll drink to that! Though what happened with that cork?

8 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

I just noticed all the cork floating in the scotch. Oops!

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Cock*. He resigned.

I love Glenlivet 18 but I wouldn't drink more than 3-4 glasses of my own stash in one night. The taste buds don't appreciate it as much.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Por que no los dos?

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

This was for sure the reason.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Agreed.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's in Africa, I am sure everything will work out just fine.

8 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 2

Yeah,what could go wrong?

Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

The dictator is dead; long live the dictator.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

His enforcer is being celebrated as his replacement, so I doubt it.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Exactly, this was a strong-arm move to prevent Grace from inheriting office. That's not entirely a positive sign for democracy.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I suppose his vice taking over is more democratic than inheritance. Let's see how the next election is run.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I just had my first real scotch this weekend. I will never drink anything except water and scotch. Or both... again.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Never let a stranger tell you how you should enjoy your scotch.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Fuck all you guys trying to tell me how to drink my scotch. I mixed it with warm diet pepsi and half a bag of 2for$1 spicy peanuts.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

have you not read my goddamned username? I DOWHATIWANT!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Never ruin a good scotch with water...

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 8

Actually some taste better with some water mixed in, it opens up the taste palette. Whiskey tasting 101 ;) (But NEVER add ice.)

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

A small amount of water will open up the aroma and flavors of any Scotch. Try it both ways. You will notice a difference.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Water only "opens" the flavor of whiskey/bourbon/scotch if it is bottled ~50% abv or higher. If your bottle is lower, the distiller already

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Added plenty of water

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

And never ruin a good crotch with too much scotch

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Solid advice.
