The GOP hates DEI initiatives, yet they love the ultimate DEI institution.

The Electoral College needs to be abolished. It's just a holdover from the slave-owning days

Legitimately asking… why are you in favor of keeping it?

I think it ensures and protects the sovereignty of the member states of the union by having the equal number of electors for each state and ensures equal representation of the people. I think it's a great system for a country that is as massive and diverse in terms of culture, views, and huge breadth of opinion as exists in the US. I do not want Alabama ruling California nor California ruling Alabama from the top down.

I need help understanding why equal weight should be given to 5 million Alabamans vs 40 million Californians (8x). Alabama gets 9, California gets 54 (6x).

Well they don't. The population is represented in the electoral college according to the number or representatives in the House of Reps. Now, of course, that could always be better but in general the House of Reps is fairly representative of the population.

The 2 per state are designed to represent the member states of the union since we are a union and not a single country.
