Well, it's happening exactly as expected

My friend who has a high school age son and lives in Georgia shared these images in the last 24 hours of the first day of school in GA. This is Sequoyah High School in Canton GA. If this doesn't look like a high risk super spreader event to you as a parent I don't know how you managed to get your kids to this age to begin with. No social distancing, but I do see a mask on the tall gentleman. Regardless: masks are not a panacea, they are not a shield: you still need to social distance.

My friend mentioned that back on February 28 in Albany GA because of ONE funeral, 500 people contracted and died from Corona, traced back 100 people who attended that single event. I shudder to think what will happen to the families and staff interacting with the kids above, both in the schools, on the busses and in the community (random gas pump, stop at the local convenience store, etc).

This is a traditional first-day-of-school senior picture gathering in Cherokee County GA. No masks, clearly no social distancing. On the post, shared on social media YESTERDAY, the kids defended not wearing masks by saying DUH of course we had masks on and of course we put them back on afterwards. Uh, that's not how this works, that's not how any of this works.

Contrasted with the terrifying pictures of crowded, maskless school hallways is this heartbreaking story of 17 year old Justin Hunter who is now an orphan. He was positive but asymptomatic, but both of his parents were symptomatic and within the month both died. They had been sheltering in place, and taken precautions when going out, but still ended up dead leaving their young son behind. This is MY fear about schools opening, not the kids who may not suffer at all (but very well might)....it's all of the adults in their lives, the only people who they count on and depend on. Honestly just the absolute worst case scenario.
