If death's heart were anything but an icy rock I'd have made it to see my dad one last time. I don't buy this.

I'm so sorry for your loss. This made my heart ache.

They're considered some of the most beloved and respected modern fiction in the world. Start with "Color of Magic"

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh boy are you in for an incredible bittersweet adventure. There's something like 30 Discworld books by Pratchett.

Fear of birth is not weakness either. But know you with have amazing science to help you the whole way.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I felt the same w my lo who is 5 mos. the risk is real, jus do your research and don’t be afraid to speak up to the nurses and dr

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

if you zoom in on the comic, the mom has cardiomyopathy, so it was a risky pregnancy from her end. I'm sure you'll be fine however c:

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You'll be fine, honey. Just live healthy and be confident. Think positive! And many congratulations ^-^

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

If you have access to modern medical care, maternal mortality is almost nil.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

if it was back in the 1800's , id agree with you , and would ask you to have your affairs in order

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You’ll do great no worries! I was scared too. If you’re scared tell your husband/babydaddy/mom/support. (Also, get the epidural!)

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Don't be afraid to ask questions if something seems off, even after delivery. Pay attention to your body and trust yourself. You'll be ok.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The fear is real and the risk is real. It's ok to be afraid. But be strong too. Little one needs it & daddy needs it. Take care of yourself

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

My mama gave birth to 7 kids, in a dirt poor country, with a barely functional health care system. If she can do it, so can you :D

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's gonna be ok

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Just had mine in July and had this fear also. Legit started crying about the day before I was induced, once you're there though it isn't 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A worry. You're just so focused on making sure baby is healthy . 2/2

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Even an *unassisted* delivery has something like a 90% success rate. If it was difficult, there wouldn't be billions of us.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My first is almost a year. I wrote my husband a letter in case I died. He won't let me throw it out but he's refused to read it, too.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's a real fear but odds are in your favor. <3 Be brave.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

After she had our 2nd, wife had a major clot that didn't come out. Walked to the bathroom and collapsed. I had a terrifying moment thinking/

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

of raising our kids by myself and not having her in my life. Ended up fine. Modern medicine is awesome. Don't worry.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Not to mention clots that bad are not terribly common! People just only hear the bad stories so often they don't realize most are good.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I wish you the best of course, but worse case scenario, no dirty diapers to change.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Talk to your doc. If this is a legit concern consider a csec. Childbirth is hard & scary but we live in an age with better medical care

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Me too :( so worried

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Me too. 24 weeks along and very high risk. Wish I could afford counseling to help with the anxiety about it.

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

I wish they offered this more. Depression while pregnant is 100x worse.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Most counselors offer a sliding scale and will work with you if you can't afford it - just ask a few.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Talk to your mom. Or grandma, auntie, or me

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Feel free to shoot me a message if you would like to chat, I have an open ear. May be able to help you locate some resources too.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Talking about it helps. There are many of us moms online and some of us were/are high risk. Shoot us (me) a message. Also your doctor.

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I was very high risk my whole pregnancy. Ended up with preeclampsia. We induced and baby wouldn't lower itself. Had an emergency c section.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Everything turned out perfect. I healed amazingly fast. Baby was small and preemie but healthy and amazing. Modern medicine is amazing.

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Just don't do the newfangled "avoid all trained professionals" thing.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

between this and the Job episode of Grey's Anatomy I just saw. maaannn

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Medical science has come a long way. Statistics show you'll be fine. Pop out the lil one and have a happy fam :)

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Might wanna tell ur hubbie the tale of dark plaeguis the wise

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It was my concern too as I felt from a young age I’d die in childbirth. Child turns 15 this year, and I’m still here. You’ll be just fine :)

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

I always knew I would end up with a c section. We tried to induce and baby never even tried to decend. Had a c section and I was perfectly

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Happy with it because I always knew it was going to happen. Not nervous one bit.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That’s really awesome. I was induced but had natural birth - no drugs! Baby didn’t cry afterwards as umbilical cord was wrapped around 1/

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Neck 3x and everybody was like O_O. So they took little one aside and I wasn’t worried. Knew they would do Apgar & everything is good.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yep. Same here. Twins. I didn't really need to see this right now...

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Modern media makes it seem so common to have complications, but really, it is uncommon. And most complications are easily remedied.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I had preeclampsia and was induced. Baby had arrest of decent and wouldn't pass my cervix. C section was a breeze and I was determined to

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Get up and moving ASAP. No infections or pain. Just kind of muscle aches. I loved my birth even with everything because it have me my amazin

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Preemie, 6lb 8oz baby boy. Who couldn't be more perfect.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This. I think modern medical drama has really overblown the rate at which this actually happens in the modern era.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But the docs have it under control. I do u and be the best damn dead person in training you can be. After all nobody gets out of this alive

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Me too im 6 months atm this freaks me out even though my midwife has told me im a no risk

8 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 1

4 kids for us so far and I still have this fear while I'm suiting up to go be with her for the c section

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Also 6 months. Even when professionals say you're ok you can't help but think the worst. Logic goes out the window.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

But what does the the obgyn who went to medical school say?

8 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 12

That im fine

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Excellent

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

You do know that midwives in the US still have to do all the same medical schooling minus surgery. They don't perform c section.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 7

While many midwives are fantastically skilled at their jobs, nurse midwives and lay midwives do not attend medical school.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Women helping women. I went with a midwife, ended up with C-sec but the midwife was with me all the way. She made me feel safe and cared for

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

How did they manage to make solid bone eyeholes look sympathetic

Love those books bit they get creepy as fuck at times. Too many naked kids

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I read them when I was a kid and don't remember any naked kids..?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I forget which book but there is one where prince Dor (I think) travels around with a girl naked most of the time.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

He transforms into a flute and she has to literally blow him to defeat some enemy.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

His Xanth novels are amazing as well.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I read the first 20? Or so, and had to stop when he pretty much let fans write the puns. They were WONDERFUL, but I could take it and longer

I dislike his Xanth books, but his Incarnations of Immortality is superb.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

The Apprentice Adept has always been my favorite.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's a tossup between the Incarnations of Immortality and Bio Of a Space Tyrant for me.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I agree it is one of my favorite books and part of one of my favorite series.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I just bought it on this recommendation alone. So it better be good cause i trust you explicitly.

8 years ago | Likes 108 Dislikes 0

Don’t worry, it’s amazing!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

On a Pale Horse and For Love of Evil are by far the best of that series. Luckily, you can skip a few and still follow the stories.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It's fab / and it's the start of a whole series

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's good, you won't regret it.

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Well maybe that and i have never read a piers Anthony book

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Also, puns. Not as bad in Incarnations as in Xanth, but seriously.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Be prepared for some weird sex stuff outta nowhere. I don't remember if it's this one or another in the series but: gorilla fingering.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Don't forget the loli.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Dude has issues for sure. He can write some truly great fiction, but the oversexualization is very distracting at times.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

To be fair, a LOT of sci-fi and fantasy authors had lots of sexual content in many of their works around that time. Heinlein...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't remember that being in Incarnations, yeah plenty of other sex stuff.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

One of them (Satan? Can't remember) is tricked into some prank disguised as a "test", ends with a monkey's finger up his butthole.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

It's amazing. Trust

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's a good series but fair warning the second to last book has a paper thin justification for pedophillia in it.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

His Incarnations of Immortality series is one of his best self contained series, by far.

8 years ago | Likes 42 Dislikes 0

I corresponded with him for a bit. Totally cool and down to earth

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

OH SNAP YES FINALLY SOMEONE ELSE TALKS ABOUT THIS SERIES.

8 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Likewise - I even went online to buy it twenty years after I read it and it was as good as I remembered it !

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I just learned about Velvet Cloak here! I should reread the series and end with that.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Now I'm going to have to order it and reread it myself- been about 20+ years for me as well!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Shit I haven't read but this reply string is making me want. Any specific recommendations or reading order?
