As my previous post about power metal albums was relatively successful I decided to make another post with more, this time with several albums from the same bands. Keep in mind these are my handpicked choices of albums I've listened to, hence why some of yours might not be here. Yet.

All credit goes to: https://imgur.com/user/ASentientToaster for his album lists which inspired me to make my own.

Rhapsody has some epic pieces, luca turilli too

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Hammer fall is an absolute bad ass power metal group. Definitely worth a chance.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Hmm... but where is Manowar, a "father" of Power Metal?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

If I make another list and I've had time to listen to them I might include them. It's just a matter of me being a scatterbrain.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Fuck, I should check these out. Personally, I recommend Blind Guardian. ESPECIALLY VALHALLA. The live video too.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Shit you not I had a Rhapsody CD back in the day that had a sticker on it that just said "epic cosmic symphonic power metal"

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

You should check if you still have it!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I remember when i discovered Edguy almost 10 years ago. frickin blew me away. also, is Trivium considered PM?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

10-15 years ago since I discovered them as well. Listened to Tears of a Mandrake over and over for hours.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

they definitely have a Iron Maidenesque sound and artwork. return to the tribe, mysteria, down to the devil, rocket ride... the list goes on

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Falconer, yo. Self-titled album, Chapters From a Vale Forlorn, Northwind, Among Beggars and Thieves, Armod, and Black Moon Rising.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Bringing back memories mentioning Falconer's self titled

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

gloryhammer was a few day ago randomly choosen to be in my recomended" music on spotify, after listening to Hearts of Iron for the 23rd time

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Also always upvote Sabaton.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I've been listening to "Kamelot" for about 6 years now. I would definitely recommend them. Start with the "The fourth Legacy" or "Karma".

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Black Halo is one of my favorite records of all time

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ya, I love that album as well. Silverthorn has some amazing songs too!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not strictly power metal but ‘Fucked with an anchor’ by Alestorm is fucking hysterical.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Love that song. That entire album is phenomenal.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Want more like that look up Lagerstein.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Will do fella.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Everything by Alestorm is great.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I’d agree to that. Cheers!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No love for Dragonforce?

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Pentakill. There should be Pentakill.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

LEGEEEEEEEND OF THE ASTRAAAAL HAAAMMER *drums set in*

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

No "Iced Earth"? (also good suggestions otherwise)

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Iced Earth is not power metal, it's just metal. The band stated so themselves, they do not try to play a subgenre.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ah, I was unaware of this, thanks for the info!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I would recommend Falconer for anyone who likes power metal (like me)

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Why do 90% of power metal album covers look like some kind of knock off Dark Souls concept art?

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Most of it is fantasy themed, just like Dark Souls.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Fuck yea to all of these. But your forgetting manowar.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

It's trash metal, not powermetal. Because other bands play, Manowar kills!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Its because its not on spotify. Filthy heretics don't know.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

DID SOMEBODY SAY HERETICS?!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's because I've never listened to them. What songs of theirs would you recommend I check out? :)

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Brothers of Metal is kind of cool just found them today.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Kings of Metal, Gods of War (whole album), Heart of Steel, King of Kings, Dawn of Battle, Fight for Freedom, Warriors of the World

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That's quite a few of them, thanks for the list!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sleipnir, it's the quintessential cheesy power metal song and I absolutely love it.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Cheers, I'll give it a listen!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A new addition that I recommend is Beast in Black. They've only released two songs so far, but their debut album releases in November.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Here's their first released song for anyone that's interested. https://youtu.be/2N4tXf3Enswp

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Holy crap, that's pretty good! http://i0.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/original/001/111/730/2e1.jpg

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Gotta listen to more of this stuff. Blessed & Possessed is such a solid album, I can't think of a song on there I don't like.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Same. They're all so perfect in their blend of church bells and choirs and just the most intense guitar and drum play.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

If you've never listened to Unleash The Archers I would highly recommend it. New school power metal with a kick ass female lead.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I'm sold on the cover art alone!

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Power metal artists usually go all out on their album art, and it's awesome

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'd buy so many albums I'd never listen to if I bought them for the cover art alone. There's so many good ones!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I love Blessed and Possessed's cover; catholic werewolves purging the shit out of a demon.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Gloryhammer's first album cover up there is like a Games Workshop lawsuit waiting to happen. Literally Warhammer AoR concept art adapted.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I loves me some power metal, but I have to disagree on all the Hammerfall. Maybe Glory to the Brave or Legacy of Kings, but the rest... Nah.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Instead, I'd toss in some Blind Guardian, early Helloween, Running Wild; basically most of the classic German metal albums/bands.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Glory to the Brave is a classic! But I really enjoy Crimson Thunder and the rest so I put them there. :)

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I just felt they got really samey after their first two. To be fair, I shouldn't shit on their latest, though, since I haven't listened 1/

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

to Hammerfall in years. Took a right on Death Metal avenue some 15 years ago, and never turned back :)

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Fair enough. Glad you found something you really enjoy. :)

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Haha, totally :) Still, this reminded me that I haven't heard Glory to the Brave in *ages*, so it's high time I gave it a listen! \m/,

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hell yeah. I rarely see Powerwolf mentioned.

8 years ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 1

So fucking dumb, and so fucking good.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A lot of people mentioned it on my previous list so I gave it a listen and added it to this list.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I didn't know about them until two years ago when they released their latest album. Can't wait for the next one. They've really improved.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

AMEN AND ATTACK

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

BANANA TANK

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I could conquer Outremer to that soundtrack. https://youtu.be/SW2bqSbbo1g?t=21s

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Does Symphony X counts as power metal?

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

As far as I'm aware, yes they are.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

To me they're like the dragon band of prog metal bands.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

They're more prog metal with some power metal influences

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

How to start a fight: Ask whether some band is [metalsubgenre] or not. Or claim they're more [X] metal than [Y] metal.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I'm not really into this power metal thing, but Symphony X got my attention with Underworld. And yes, I think I know of them from Imgur

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That is a plague among many genres, for sure. I try to keep it as simple as possible for my own enjoyment.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You are clearly not a proper pretentious twat who likes to prove "superior knowledge of the genre" like that kind of "fan".

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'd better step up my game then so I can be one of the prestigious ones!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

FOR THE GLORY OF DUNDEE! Damn I love Gloryhammer

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

I first heard them live at Hammerfest a few years back and they were my highlight of the festival. So good live

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

HE IS THE PRINCE FROM THE LAND OF FIFE

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

NOBLE AND TRUE WITH A HEART OF STEEL

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

NOW IT IS LOST, VENGEANCE SHALL BE HIS

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

ANGUS MCFIFE IS HIS NAME

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Judging from the covers they look like world of Warcraft the musical

8 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 2

Not an inaccurate statement for how cheesy yet awesome power metal is.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The artist for Hammerfall is Samwise Didier who also does Warcraft concept art pieces. :)

8 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

That's awesome. I wasn't hating btw I really like them lol

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Now that's some cool facts.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

He's the Senior Art Director at Blizzard, and also the lead singer for Elite Tauren Chieftain, Blizzard's house band.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Love power metal. Started with Luca turilli and rhapsody. Continued with sonata arctica as an all time favorite. "The cage" ftw.

8 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

Kamelot, epica, nightwish, stratovarius, dragonforce, falconer, gamma ray, freedom call, dream evil, etc. Great bands.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

How about Krypteria, Epica, Delain, or Within Temptation?

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Used to love within temptation 5-6 years ago and sanatorium from epica is my ringtone :P

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

+1 for Kamelot, not many people I hang out with know who they are, and it saddens me. They're releasing a new album next year too

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

We who like kamelot are many friend

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I love all of these bands. Check out bloodhound if you have not heard of them

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

No actually not. I go check them out right away.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If you mean Bloodbound, i totally agree. Awesome band

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I did mean bloodbound

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

They are good, but I have yet to find a song that really nails it from them. Any recommendations?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My favorite songs by them are behind the moon and nosferatu

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nice. I liked them very much. Especially behind the moon.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Is that marcelene and princess bubblegum?

8 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 2

Yeppers

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've been informed it's from a manga called Prison School. :)

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Good guy OP.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ayyyy, Sabaton! +1 for putting a large amount of work into this

8 years ago | Likes 111 Dislikes 1

PRIMO VICTORIA!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Also Powerwolf.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Are they really power metal though? Don't get me wrong, I love them, but power metal? I don't think I'd call it that

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sabaton is heavy/power metal.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They are absolutely power metal.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I don't get all the hype with Sabaton here and on Reddit lol I can't stand them.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

Different strokes for different folk.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Mate you find me a better band that sing about historic things like the rise and fall of the Swedish Empire, and I'll switch.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Check out Civil War, trust me

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I prefer my metal in general to be about witches, trolls, and/or drinking rather than history.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

And that's totally fair, I don't judge. But look at my name and guess which I prefer.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

But there's Iron Maiden that's better than Sabaton and sings historical stuff? lmao I'm not sure if the others I'm thinking of are accurate.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sabaton is one of my fav bands, the rest it’s been years since I listened to, thank you op

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You're welcome.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I saw Sabaton live in oncert with Trivium and Huntress. It was awesome.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Saw them live playing before Iron Maiden. Fantastic bands.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As did I, in Baltimore. What city?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Binghamton, in a now closed venue.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But there sure are better albums than those 2

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Only one I can think of is Carolus Rex. Didn't really like their older albums.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't think there's a single Sabaton album I wouldn't have wanted to see on this list, so you can't help but pick the right ones for me

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

By far the best is Art of War in my opinion

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No wonder they play Ghost Divison at the start of EVERY concert

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Coat of Arms is fucking amazing.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

TO THE GATES OF HELL

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

ON THE 6TH OF JUNE¡

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Surprised there's no Blind Guardian.

8 years ago | Likes 104 Dislikes 4

...or Luca Turilli.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

He was better with Rhapsody

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Or Helloween.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

You can't begin educational lessons in power metal without them.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Or Gamma Ray

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

not gonna lie, I only know who they are because of Robot Unicorn Attack Heavy Metal

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's a start. But listen to Nightfall in Middle Earth like everyone is recommending.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Haven't had the chance to listen to them yet. What album would you recommend I try listening to first?

8 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

i dont remembe the album name but the song twilight of the gods from them is fucking epic

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Beyond the Red Mirror - That album is fucking massive

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Imaginations from the Other Side is my favourite, followed by Nightfall in Middle Earth.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Everything they did until a night at the opera is great, after that...meh

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Also demons and wizards have same singer and some real beautiful songs ( fiddler on the green, down where I am)

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Try the last live album or just watch the wacken open air of blind guardian on youtube:-) but live is priceless

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh boy, prepare your guts, you gonna hear pure epicness!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

A Night at the Opera was definitely the peak of their work in my eyes.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I really like Beyond the Red Mirror

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Personally I gotta speak up for Night At The Opera.

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Night at the opera is a serious one as well

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What they re saying.I d say nightfall and night at the opera.on individual songs their wheel of time rocks ( esp if you have read the book)

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I really like Beyond the Red Mirror. Specifically: https://youtu.be/Ep1B_aIFPDE

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've heard that album a few times and still can't get it. That video was a good way to enjoy the song though, thanks!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As the others said, Nightfall in Middle Earth is the one where they transformed their sound to what we love today.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Start from the first, why not see how they evolved?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Elvenking and bloodborn are worth checking out

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Will do. :)

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I recommend the Red Silent Tides or Era albums of Elvenking.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

*Bloodbound

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Night fall in Middle-earth, Somewhere Far Beyond, Imaginations From the Other Side. It's hard to go wrong.

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Cheers!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Hope you enjoy them. I've seen them twice live and absolutely love them.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

the song valhalla has a live version where the crowd would not permit them to continue because they were singing to loudly

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

and they decided that the band was not infact continuing

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

VALHALLA! DELIVERANCE!

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You should also check out Lost Horizon

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I was going to recommend one of the new ones because of the better sound quality - but they've just released remastered versions of their

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

whole back catalogue!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That said, the latest 2 albums are probably my favourites

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Check out Miracle of Sound too, and definitely get some Blind Guardian, Valhalla and Mirror Mirror are probably their most well known songs.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Cheers for the headsup, fellow metalhead. :)

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Oh wait your are OP... Notification window didn't tell me

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Also check out: demons & wizards, accept, helloween, sonata Arctica, stratovarius, King diamond, dio, iced earth, symphony x

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

+1

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Power and folk is my jam, but I didn't have enough characters to tell OP to listen to Van Canto and Alestorm too :p

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I love Alestorm. I listed them on my previous list. :D

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nightfall In Middle - most all their albums are fantasy oriented but this is best imo

8 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 0

*Nightfall In Middle-Earth

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Thanks for the suggestion. I've been meaning to check them out for a while. :)

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Fans will tell you to listen to everything the band made; some prefer some phase more than other. When you get to listen their whole works..

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You will see that they reached peaks of expression in different styles. "Nightfall" gets double merit since it's an album fully dedicated...
