Successfully restored from near extinction but not anywhere close to its historic population. It makes me sad that each year the bison herds in Yellowstone National Park are culled because their numbers are "too great." On a positive note, the American Prairie Reserve is looking to create a wildlife conservation reserve of over 3 million acres that would be home to wild bison herds!

There are farms, same as there are venison and gator farms

This is only looking at the wild bison population. There are around 500,000 bison that are part of the meat industry and heavily managed.

Most of these ranched bisons aren't full bisons though, they've been bred with domesticated cattle.

How much methane do they produce? Does some miracle of science make them produce less than cows?

What does it matter?

This is not comparing them to cows, only their past population size.

If they aren't culled they won't have enough food to sustain them in the park
