Frontier to the rescue, i pay for 75/75, i get 85/85 on speedtest AND 85 on fast.com (doesnt check upload)
davebeastly
Remember folks don't mix your megabytes and megabits they're not the same.
Popnfrresh
ROFLMAO, this picture is also run off a cellular connection. Most of the cell sites have 100mbit service and share that to all cell's.
KawaiiTwat
hmmm 320 on fast and 242 on speedtest. something funky
JamieOctopus
Am I the only one that's got it the other way around? Speedtest.net> is showing 48.57 Mbps and fast.com is showing 90 Mbps
worldsokayestspeler
Yeah instead of hiding it they will do it overtly
Virunuss
ok but on speedtest you can choose various servers to test. Fast doesn't even list what its connecting to, so how do I know its equivalent?
zzyxx
companies will allwys use the best effort excuse..
CrestKnight
dont test now. do it at your local 5pm~10pm bracket when everyone is online.
was 97 this morning. now its 29. i pay for 100.
Ravenbreaker
Isnt it something like they say Mbps but its Mega-bits not mega-bytes?
alginon1977
Paying for 50mb and getting 180mb from fast sounds good to me
INeedAnUserNameButNoneIsFree
Uh, mine doesn't change. Both are 15Mbps...
heinstein
What can you do about it?

I pay for 50 and was getting 12. Called in to Comcast and they increased my speeds, having me check the speeds. I said it was 50 when it was
really 100. ;)
pippen1001
Just because im close to the border it chooses a node in another country... Which is always slower than anything in my country...
Imgurtexas
nice i have comcast and paying for 200 mbps and showing 210-220 mbps on both sites
Igotlostinusersub
I've got comcast. I'm getting my 60, so its all good for now.
yes same here. For now!
BewareTheIceSpiders
350 Mbps at work on fast.com. I think the wifi is bottlenecking me.
aaaaaa123456789
That's almost certainly the case. Older standards don't support those speeds; you'll need modern hardware. That goes both for the (1/2)
access point itself (for home devices, that is the router) and the computers/phones/whatever that use the connection. (2/2)
stekeblind
When you stream content from Netflix you'll often get data from a Netflix content server at your ISP, not from the Netflix webservers..
Can confirm. Most of our core routers have 100's of Gb netflix circuits.
PEACESELLSWHOSBUYIN
I’m using charter spectrum. Speedtest shows 133Mbps and fast is showing 130Mbps. Both over WiFi on my phone. Not to bad. Paying for 100Mb
Spectrum oversubscribes their circuits.

Wasn't there a post tearing down this site as a reliable speed test measure just last week

Can anyone get us some source?

i hope more people will read this, thanks
StoleYourPounds
în România it's not different. Paying for 100 and fast.com gets 40. Also it depends on the server. Speed test.net doesn't have theirs.
OverlyOptimisticGuy
I get 100 on fast.com in Romania, but I pay for 500. Speedtest.net actually returns 580. Something is odd.
Nefel
Gotta keep servers in mind. Ookla is just about everywhere, Netflix servers are not.
paulPoster
Your ISP is throttling Netflix. (The fast.com servers on on the same netblock as Netflix. )
GnomeMode
Keep in mind: WiFi not accurate, any device other than computer or laptop not accurate. Don't take speed test results on phones or
tablets as gospel. Use a computer & Ethernet directly from your modem.
PtuhPtuh
Need to know this now more than ever.
Zaayl
Technically since net neutrality still exists, doesnt that mean that now you could use this as evidence to report your ISP?
Wheras if it goes away, it will just tell you something you already know and cant do anything about.
AlwaysLateInternetExplorer
1348 mbps on speed test 330 on fast paying for 1gbps
sbrown24601
Servers for speedtest.net are all across the country on different networks owned by different people. You can't just prioritize that traffic
Cyparagon
Maybe, maybe not, but it would be easy to simply throttle the netflix domain.
PLS DONT SPREAD THIS BULLSHI it has someone already explained what is the matter with fast.com. This speedtest is not suitable (1/2)
(2/2) for this kind of testing, pls do your research on this, everyhting else about net neutrality is furthermore true
penguin002
fast.com was started by Netflix, and IS Netflix's server, it's primary purpose is to check if Netflix is being throttled, because 1/
to greenlight fast.com the way most ISP's do other speedtest services is to greenlight all of Netflix
superseriouscomments
Although I hate my ISP I have to admit that the speed shown on fast.com is even slightly higher than on speedtest.net
NorthCrown
it's almost as delivering what they promise is a perk... it should be normal.
nah, they don't ... the first few months they tried to charge me twice, hotline never helps and the speed I am getting is not what I ordered
yet I can't be mad about the last part, because I ordered 100mbps and I am receiving 200mbps according to the tests
gastrophil
That's why they are trying to charge you twice ;)
they didn't deliver 200 when they charged twice, though. don't try to talk me out of my righteous anger D:

Verizon Data: Speed test shows 35Mbps, Fast.com shows 3.7Mbps. I'm getting ripped off!
sorryicouldntthinkofaclevername
Same here. 39 down on Speedtest. 3.8 on fast.
tylor
What speed are you paying for?
isthisavailableplz
Sitting here at 63mbps in Canada
AdrianGurrola
My Verizon is 45 and fast 3.8
aoimori
I got 50 and 6 the other day. Verizon can be on an all dick diet, far as I'm concerned.
0x730x6D0x690x6C0x65
They can also have filters in place so that when you go to fast and run a speed test, they temporarily lift the restriction (say for 5 min)1
And then place it back afterwards. People have automated scripts to run speed test every 5 minutes to keep connection fast lmao.
BigBossTheMSFCommander
Yeah my download speed on xbox is like average 12Mbps, which is bullshit
gsholbert
Nope. Thought I had the same issue. Xbox shows megabytes/sec. You pay for megabits/sec. 8 bits/byte. 12MBps is 96 Mbps
Capital b is bytes, lowercase is bits
TypicalGayMan
Isn’t that like illegal lmao

wont be come December

I think legally they have to provide a set percentage, ~75%?. I've gotten out of contracts bc they were in breach of this.
xj4low
Most likely they will say they don't promise a speed but say you will get up to a certain speed.
Illsaysomethingjusttomakeyoumad
It say you hit you data limit which is buried In your contract
quasimdm
Frontier (who took over FiOS here in Florida) has both of the sites showing 85Mbps (10 more than I pay for) .
Paragonville
They found out about Test is why.
WhatTheFrench
I read that the way Fast is structured, ISPs can’t prioritize traffic going there without also prioritizing Netflix traffic.
wafflecakesinmymonkeyhouse
i hate frontier with a burning passion
Verizon made me keep tv service even thou I didn't use it just for a discount. Frontier actually cut my bill by $25 a month. still sucks but
yeah where i live it is the only internet provider available I just wish I at least had another option
we have Frontier & Comcast. worst 2 available anywhere :(
