This sucks. My dad had Alzheimer. Seeing dementia take course and lucidity and personality slowly disappear costs a lot of strength. Ensure you get yourself enough support.

Same. My dad was diagnosed last year and I’ve had to watch him go from a senior engineer with several patents to his name to not being able to add his his Yahtzee score in his head.

Not sure if it's relevant where you live, but look into Enduring Power of Attorney before it's too late - had experience with my mom, and now going through it again with my mother-in-law - it'll help you to help them.

In USA there are two kinds of POA: Durable POA, and POA For Healthcare. OP should try to get both.
