Gutting out the sickness by force. Having access to a 25t traverse crane is an luxury we are grateful for.

Rule is to that you never pull more than maximum 3 transoms at a time when replacing them. Therefore maintaining the integrity of the hull.

Here we have pulled out 3 on the port side, driven the bolts and scraped out old sinns.

Now the fun part begins.

After a lot of thought we ended up with going full viking. We got delivered wood that was way too big for the in house bandsaw. So ti save time and sphincter we use axes to shape the transoms before finishing with Virutex planers.

It's more fun really....

Master shipwright Gudmundur in his element.

Here I'm setting up the dimensions for the transoms using a traditional measure tool.

Jaut take a second to marvel at the insane beauty of the Faroe islands.....

Correcting the final angle before laying out the final shape.

We are now half way replacing the transoms that where rotten. Next step is to replace all the standing aft beams as well as the aft keel.

So cool!!! I saw the Viking Ship Museum near Oslo this summer and was amazed at how large the ships are!

I don't know if it was intentional or not, but 'to save time and sphincter' is my new favorite phrase thank you

There's something I didn't think about, is Nord tradtitionally spelled with an eth? (Norð is pronounced North, for those that don't know.)

So many questions. What's the boat design? Fishing boat? Where's the wood coming from? Are you based in the Faroe Islands?

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Traditional English cutters/schooner. Build number 2 on Torshavn shipyard in 1945. Norwegian oak. Yes we are, just started our own business

Gudmunder should really think about safety glasses.

How much of the original ship will remain? If you replace everything, it's not restoring, it's rebuilding.

The beaches near me are littered with burnt wood, why you ask? Well its because the EU paid the fishermen to burn their boats....

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

..so they could never go fishing again & the fishing rights had been sold to other countries....Go Brexit....
