So a while ago I came across this post https://imgur.com/gallery/6l3ct and somehow won. I guess all my good luck in life had been holding back until that moment, because it’s the first time ever winning anything. After it’s long journey overseas from a crazy generous Australian Imgurian, it’s here! I nearly squealed when the mail carrier walked up for a signature.
Here’s the sight that greeted me on initially opening it. Candy, Vegemite (always wanted to try this!), and just a glimpse at the main attraction.
There it is!
Unpacking revealed a huge amount of Aussie candy, cookies (or biscuits, if I understand correctly), and that sweet sweet SNES in the awesome PAL color scheme we lame-o North Americans didn’t get.
He even sent along some currency as a thoughtful souvenir, and I’m delighted to say that I now know there are kangaroos on it!
The system itself is smaller than I thought it’d be, even having seen pictures and videos. It’s awesome and feels like Nintendo really wanted it to be a collector’s item, as it’s well built. And those colors! Ok, at this point, I went ahead and squealed out loud. My three daughters were aghast.
After we all took turns picking out candy and trying it as a group (my favorite had to be the Picnic bar, it was like a Snickers for us here, but much lighter, bigger, and wafer instead of nougat) it got all hooked up and on the coffee table for some play time!
Look at all these games to choose from!
Booted up finally! (there was probably another squeal here)
The next 4 hours or so were a blur of multiplayer Mario Kart, Street Fighter, and Super Mario World, before dipping into the fantastic single player stuff like Super Metroid above, and Zelda. But the one I was most excited for, and that got me in the drawing for the SNES in the first place:
Ugh, I love this game so damn much. All in all, an amazing gift, and generous to the point that I wasn’t even sure to how to respond. All I can say, @ThatUsernameAlreadyTaken, is your generosity and thoughtfulness has let me have a fantastic day with my family that, without trying to be too cheesy, I think we’ll all cherish for a very long time. I can’t thank you enough. Really.
