I think the scene is kind of creepy in an unpredictable way. Overall though, I think they made the movies creepy...not really scary.
Agreed ! I got major creeps from it and it was great!
Movie* Essentially, my problem was they didn't let your imagination do any of the work, which is why the original was scary. Still liked it2
ObsidianChef
There's more movies coming tho. This was just part 1.
More made by the same people who will do the same thing. No reason to think they won't be as overly explicit next time around.
Overall. Definitely felt like it was more faithful to the book, from what I remember. 3
It's been a while since I read the book, but I think the miniseries was more faithful. Like Mike was the historian, not Ben. And there was>>
a pretty major character who appeared to die in this movie who was a big part of the aftermath of the first and second part of the story.
barroomheropics
The original really didnt age well.
I was never scared by the movie. It was weird. The visuals were creepy, but b/c they were designed to be, not b/c they just naturally were.
And I never had that moment of fear later, away from the movie. Normally when I see good horror there's a point when I'm turning off all >>
the lights later that I get a flash of the movie and my heart skips a beat and that shadow in the corner looks suspicious for a second. >>
With this movie I never got that. Just went "eh, that was cool." But never had it come back to haunt me later outside the theater in any way
7thor8thcaw
I legit enjoyed the hell out of this movie.

I would have liked it if it hadn't been jump scare central every 4 minutes. There is a way to make a good horror movie and this isn't the way
mrmcspicy
they did have a lot of jump scares; i liked the more subtle scares like the librarian or the way Pennywise unfolded himself out the fridge
I'm curious, what's a good horror movie? There are many ways to scare people.
PatrickDiomedes
1408 is one of my fave horror movies. few jump scares, much more suspense
Jump scares aren't a good way to scare people. They don't leave a big impact on people only a loud noise that scares anyone.

The Library scene was the worst for me. And there's a creepy as hell little bit in the background a lot of people missed. So good.

What happens in the background? I'm curious now. Is it the lady staring at him while he reads?

That scene was my favorite attack of the whole movie. Just stomping around the garage. It wasn't scary but I still whiteknuckled the armrest
Lovezombie
Yeah, it wasn't scary, but it was really kinda intense.
Yeah it was great at building and releasing tension is unexpected ways. As well as juggling the comedy/surreal/ridiculousness with terror.

I liked it a lot too, but I'm curious: did you think it was scary?
SnoochyPoochy
Not one bit! I honestly thought it more of a comedy.
I thought it had white a few jump scares. Horror isn't really my forte, so I'm not well versed in it so I thought it was "scary" enough.
I didn't but movie's can't really scare me anymore. Still enjoyed the hell out of it.
Ashley624
same, I know it was scary and scared people around me in the theatre, but yea didn't actually scare me
ghostlat
I didn't think it was scary, but it did have some great dialogue, especially between the kids.
procrastinatorsunite111nextweek
The kids' dialogue was probably the best part, just because it was so realistic. I've actually said some of the stuff they said to mine
Baboonz
Absolutely, but I know people who disagree. Great movie tho
I thought it was creepy. It did have some decent jump scares, but the creep factor was on 11.
Phenomeno
Not scary at all for me. I thought it was hilarious
Screwdizzle
I feel like there was too much "scariness" for it to keep that level of creepiness/horror the whole way.
They were definitely to overt for sure, didn't leave anything to the imagination.
sp1cychick3n
It was terrifying, especially because of the small things. Like, (spoiler), when pennywise is drooling in the sewer while talking to Georgie
kokorobrokoro
I didn't really, but if I saw this as a kid, it'd have been an instant classic for me. Also would've scared me shitless
I'm a huge wimp and dreaded seeing it & it wasn't scary at all to me. I felt it was very predictable. I liked it overall though.
SaixpuppyXD
Huge wimp here, but the clown looks so cute! I really want to see it, but the boyfriend is an even bigger wimp than me!
HecticHero
You think this fucker is cute?
you don't?!
I only went because I promised my husband if it got over an 85 on RT I'd go. I dreaded going, I HATE scary movies. I even made a friend come
I had two margaritas in me beforehand. It has a good story & very good actors. I'd recommend it! Had a good bit of humor too.
I took a scroll through the pennnywise tag on tumblr and I think I can go see it in an abandoned haunted house right now.
IPutLinesOnPaper
It was basically Stand By Me, but with a spooky clown. More of a coming-of-age story than horror.
PloppyTheSlopper
Yep, exactly this! Thoroughly enjoyed the movie, but found the 'horror' parts more freaky than outright terrifying.
I kept thinking that too!
birquah
I didn't find it that scary, hoping Ch 2 will be more so since it should take more to scare the adults than the children
SnoopDoggAttending
I didn't. It's why i rate it a 6-7/10. I wanted it to be scary and I thought it would be based on the first few minutes.
I didn't think it was either, but I thought they managed to keep it creepy and still make a good movie.
Creepy for sure, but not scary. Still worth seeing.
WumboPower
I haven't really had a moment where I was scared to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night in while, did after this movie though.
May have to do with having a deceased sibling though.
MarkoFromTropoja
I've been completely desensitized by zombies and violence that horror movies don'tscare me anymore. That being said, there were a few times
That I legitimately got chills watching it, and that's enough for me to consider it a good movie
everettscott
*LOUD NOISE* *MUSIC STING*
That was the most irritating thing about It. We really don't need a loud "bwaaaa" to know something scary is happening.
That's a lot of 'horror' movies now. It's lame.
freesnowcone
Not at all. The movie was constantly telling the audience, "Here comes a scary part! It's gonna be so scary!" No real surprise or suspense.
That and all the jump scares we're in the previews & extended previews... they really didn't have any surprises.
MisterVulva
This is why I avoid all trailers of the movie.

This part actually creeped me out. Something about it.

YouDontKnowMeIDontKnowMe
Same here!
MoxRavager
Probably the camera being stabilized on his head and the hellish background.
PumparumTheCrow
For me, it was both the head stabilization and the thudding growing slowly louder and louder.
sorrycannotbraintoday
It was a good trick
Journeyz
Same
TheUpdootist
I think the scene is kind of creepy in an unpredictable way. Overall though, I think they made the movies creepy...not really scary.
CoCoKunt
Agreed ! I got major creeps from it and it was great!
TheUpdootist
Movie* Essentially, my problem was they didn't let your imagination do any of the work, which is why the original was scary. Still liked it2
ObsidianChef
There's more movies coming tho. This was just part 1.
Imalwaysready
More made by the same people who will do the same thing. No reason to think they won't be as overly explicit next time around.
TheUpdootist
Overall. Definitely felt like it was more faithful to the book, from what I remember. 3
Imalwaysready
It's been a while since I read the book, but I think the miniseries was more faithful. Like Mike was the historian, not Ben. And there was>>
Imalwaysready
a pretty major character who appeared to die in this movie who was a big part of the aftermath of the first and second part of the story.
barroomheropics
The original really didnt age well.
Imalwaysready
I was never scared by the movie. It was weird. The visuals were creepy, but b/c they were designed to be, not b/c they just naturally were.
Imalwaysready
And I never had that moment of fear later, away from the movie. Normally when I see good horror there's a point when I'm turning off all >>
Imalwaysready
the lights later that I get a flash of the movie and my heart skips a beat and that shadow in the corner looks suspicious for a second. >>
Imalwaysready
With this movie I never got that. Just went "eh, that was cool." But never had it come back to haunt me later outside the theater in any way
7thor8thcaw
I legit enjoyed the hell out of this movie.
Cinemageddon
Movie was boring as shit and Pennywise was barely in it outside of jump scares. The only good scene was the opening boat/sewer scene.
MRWIRealiseYouCanChangeUsernames
Eh, I found it entertaining for sure but still kinda eh
bart2pl
yep, that seems to be general opinion
v3rmilion
I hate cheap jump scares and "horror" via really loud sounds otherwise how would you know to be scared.
wildcatfan4life
Just saw it, great movie can't wait till chapter 2.
MinistryOfSillyWalkssss
Same!!!
EzekielsRage
I did too but still didn't do a thing to scare me
TheMightyMoggle
I was told the one with Tim Curry is a miniseries but I keep seeing it called a movie. Can anyone clear that up for me?
zFUBARz
Now you can pretty much only get it as a single product, but at the time was aired in 2 parts.
PeriodQueen
Original was mini series for television bc of length. New version is a movie.
ADisturbedOne
I am scared of clowns, but I am tempted to give this movie a chance, but again I'm terrified of clowns. What do?!
MRWIRealiseYouCanChangeUsernames
I went with my girlfriend who's been scared of clowns since she was a kid and she was fine
wondersquid
Fellow coulrophobe. Saw it. Cowered a bit. Lots of eye covering. No regrets.
JumpGunnington
Well it's a horror movie, the idea is to scare you. So buckle up and enjoy the ride!
SithRuleOfTwo
Do it.
raymondhoward5131415
I would have liked it if it hadn't been jump scare central every 4 minutes. There is a way to make a good horror movie and this isn't the way
mrmcspicy
they did have a lot of jump scares; i liked the more subtle scares like the librarian or the way Pennywise unfolded himself out the fridge
7thor8thcaw
I'm curious, what's a good horror movie? There are many ways to scare people.
PatrickDiomedes
1408 is one of my fave horror movies. few jump scares, much more suspense
raymondhoward5131415
Jump scares aren't a good way to scare people. They don't leave a big impact on people only a loud noise that scares anyone.
7thor8thcaw
I don't follow how that is an answer. I asked what a good horror movie was.
DefinatelyNotaNinja
What movie is this?

Holy fuck
Mopey
I swear the theater I was in was like 2x as loud as it should have been and this scene was an experience lemme tell you.
SithRuleOfTwo
It was the best lol. Im not easily frightened and I let out a yelp.
FlyinHawaiian13
The Library scene was the worst for me. And there's a creepy as hell little bit in the background a lot of people missed. So good.
Hollowpoint357
What happens in the background? I'm curious now. Is it the lady staring at him while he reads?
johnnich1214
That scene was my favorite attack of the whole movie. Just stomping around the garage. It wasn't scary but I still whiteknuckled the armrest
Lovezombie
Yeah, it wasn't scary, but it was really kinda intense.
Mopey
Yeah it was great at building and releasing tension is unexpected ways. As well as juggling the comedy/surreal/ridiculousness with terror.
ModernTenshi04
It had jump scares, but they were damn good jump scares.
CantStopTheHopp
A dozen or so people ran out of theater during that scene where I was. I almost joined them.
NoTroublesBubbles
I laughed at this scene. I feel like I almost laughed too much in this movie....
aFactIsAFact
Please tell me I wasn't the only one who lost it when he waved at them in the bushes with the kids severed arm. Shit me and my friend rollin
NoTroublesBubbles
Nope I loved that too!
TheUpdootist
I liked it a lot too, but I'm curious: did you think it was scary?
SnoochyPoochy
Not one bit! I honestly thought it more of a comedy.
7thor8thcaw
I thought it had white a few jump scares. Horror isn't really my forte, so I'm not well versed in it so I thought it was "scary" enough.
MoxRavager
I didn't but movie's can't really scare me anymore. Still enjoyed the hell out of it.
Ashley624
same, I know it was scary and scared people around me in the theatre, but yea didn't actually scare me
ghostlat
I didn't think it was scary, but it did have some great dialogue, especially between the kids.
procrastinatorsunite111nextweek
The kids' dialogue was probably the best part, just because it was so realistic. I've actually said some of the stuff they said to mine
Baboonz
Absolutely, but I know people who disagree. Great movie tho
SithRuleOfTwo
I thought it was creepy. It did have some decent jump scares, but the creep factor was on 11.
Phenomeno
Not scary at all for me. I thought it was hilarious
Screwdizzle
I feel like there was too much "scariness" for it to keep that level of creepiness/horror the whole way.
TheUpdootist
They were definitely to overt for sure, didn't leave anything to the imagination.
sp1cychick3n
It was terrifying, especially because of the small things. Like, (spoiler), when pennywise is drooling in the sewer while talking to Georgie
kokorobrokoro
I didn't really, but if I saw this as a kid, it'd have been an instant classic for me. Also would've scared me shitless
0lliecat
I'm a huge wimp and dreaded seeing it & it wasn't scary at all to me. I felt it was very predictable. I liked it overall though.
SaixpuppyXD
Huge wimp here, but the clown looks so cute! I really want to see it, but the boyfriend is an even bigger wimp than me!
HecticHero
You think this fucker is cute?
SaixpuppyXD
0lliecat
I only went because I promised my husband if it got over an 85 on RT I'd go. I dreaded going, I HATE scary movies. I even made a friend come
0lliecat
I had two margaritas in me beforehand. It has a good story & very good actors. I'd recommend it! Had a good bit of humor too.
SaixpuppyXD
I took a scroll through the pennnywise tag on tumblr and I think I can go see it in an abandoned haunted house right now.
IPutLinesOnPaper
It was basically Stand By Me, but with a spooky clown. More of a coming-of-age story than horror.
PloppyTheSlopper
Yep, exactly this! Thoroughly enjoyed the movie, but found the 'horror' parts more freaky than outright terrifying.
0lliecat
I kept thinking that too!
birquah
I didn't find it that scary, hoping Ch 2 will be more so since it should take more to scare the adults than the children
SnoopDoggAttending
I didn't. It's why i rate it a 6-7/10. I wanted it to be scary and I thought it would be based on the first few minutes.
TheUpdootist
I didn't think it was either, but I thought they managed to keep it creepy and still make a good movie.
SnoopDoggAttending
Creepy for sure, but not scary. Still worth seeing.
WumboPower
I haven't really had a moment where I was scared to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night in while, did after this movie though.
WumboPower
May have to do with having a deceased sibling though.
MarkoFromTropoja
I've been completely desensitized by zombies and violence that horror movies don'tscare me anymore. That being said, there were a few times
MarkoFromTropoja
That I legitimately got chills watching it, and that's enough for me to consider it a good movie
everettscott
*LOUD NOISE* *MUSIC STING*
ghostlat
That was the most irritating thing about It. We really don't need a loud "bwaaaa" to know something scary is happening.
everettscott
That's a lot of 'horror' movies now. It's lame.
freesnowcone
Not at all. The movie was constantly telling the audience, "Here comes a scary part! It's gonna be so scary!" No real surprise or suspense.
0lliecat
That and all the jump scares we're in the previews & extended previews... they really didn't have any surprises.
MisterVulva
This is why I avoid all trailers of the movie.
0lliecat
Damn autocorrect *were
soliddreams
It's a faithful, yet updated, version of the novel, which is as old as I am, dammit.
bigdog1983
I also thought that there were waaay too many jumpscares and, after a while, they became predictable
