Considering how many priests are arrested for sexual assault each year I would much prefer a fake christian to a real one. I understand lying to get ahead. I do not understand a deity forgiving someone for raping a child. All gods are burning in hell, I think it is time the devout start looking to goddesses for guidance.

If he was just honest and said he doesn't give a fuck about that person and he'd do it again if he had the opportunity, the exact same people who bought the "god's forgiveness" bullshit would still be on his side because none of it is about God or forgiveness for any of them.

I don't know if he's a Catholic, but Catholics believe that Catholic priests have the power to convey God's forgiveness. I don't know how many Hail Mary's you have to say to atone for driving your subordinate to suicide by being a sex pest, but I'm sure they have a precedent.

So, as a Catholic, the Sacrament of Reconciliation requires a few things. One, you have to be sincere. Two, you have to admit to those you have wronged and make it right, to the best of your ability. Three, you have to work diligently to not sin that way again.
The fun thing is, you can't con an All Knowing God. You can lie to people, sure, but God knows if you're sincere, and he'll judge you when your time comes.
Now, saying God has forgiven him? Blasphemous.
