Where did you get this?? I want one!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

First thought was Star Trek's Voyager....was mildly disappointed when not

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It won't be until 2273 that william shatner find it... you're ahead of the curve, OP!!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The disc contains information of where to find us. Aliens who find it might not be good guys. Let that sink in.

IIRC, Sagan's son Nick(?) was used for the Eng lang recording. It was 1-take, dad plonked mic down & asked 'what would you say to Aliens'?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wh-what? How the hell did you...? It was on the...I mean, we fired it...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Legit thought that the first pic was a child's drawing

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You want the Covenant to discover where Earth is? This is how you do it.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

*facepalm* this was supposed to go on the spacecraft. Damnit Sagan! You had one job!

Show the Megatron recording!

It never needed to be sent out in to space in hopes ET's one day finding it. They have always been here and watch us make it.

Waiting for mine to be shipped

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I just listened to a podcast on this... Radiolab I believe?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I always thought "greetings in 55 languages" would be, if anything, confusing for someone trying to decode a language from the materials.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

jesus fuck, shipping must have cost you a fortune

"Christ, did they ship this thing from the moon?!" I'll see myself out.

Invader Zim should have started with the Voyager craft reaching his home world.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

in the mail? weren't they supposed to have launched that thing into space?

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

This is awesome, I actually got mine at a used books store when I visited the UK several years ago, at a really great price. My friend ...

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

.. took us for a drive north of Carlisle and we came upon a small town with literally a pub and book store. We hit the pub and ...

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

... had some amazing fish and chips and bits and went to the bookstore smashed as all hell and the shop keep had the Voyager set ...

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

...framed on his wall and I really liked it. I asked if it was for sale and the shop keep said it was and I asked how much?...

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

...and he said it was "tree fiddy" and it was at the time I realized the shop keep was a 500 feet tall and from the paleolithic era

This is neat. How many millions do I need for one of my own?

That's a pretty okayish price.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thanks.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There are reproductions like this on sale at Thinkgeek.com. Pretty sure it was fairly affordable

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Quite a few millions if you want the original.

8 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Collect only

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Someday, I hope people can go to a museum and see the original probe. That would be magical.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Right right, with enough millions I can buy anything. But how much for the thing @OP got?

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

About $100, found it on kickstarter

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

With no technology available anytime soon would it be possible to retrieve it. Pretty interesting thought!

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

So no amount of millions will help you here ;-)

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I don't know. Elon Musk might be capable if he wanted to spend his fortune on it.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's (Voyager 2) 3.3 times as far away from the sun as Pluto, speeding at 15.4 km/s. Even catching up to it within a lifetime would be 1/2
