I had them mark the box fragile like all over the place, paid extra for the first class and priority shipping, and they done fucked it up. My brother said the box was born in places, beat to absolute hell, and the board broken in three pieces.

I'm doubly upset about it because I'm in the military and I wasnt able to make it home to his birthday and i definitely won't make his graduation. I feel like a terrible big brother :(

FP edit: Thanks for the support and good advice guys. Now please send nudes

Is there any way to get compensated

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I work at a retail store that sends online orders directly from the store. I get blamed for broken items even though the box gets destroyed

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

From the outside. There’s only so much packing we can do.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You did your absolute best and I am sure your brother knows and appreciates it =)

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Fucking awww dude. I've lost two brothers and this made me cry. My last brother is getting out of prison, he didn't take the deaths well. 1

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I hope my brother gets me something I like. Yes I'll cry! Reminds me of the time my then new oldest brother got me vinyl records! :.)

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Part of my business is shipping custom items via UPS. They destroyed everything until I figured out how to make the pack indestructible.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I own a company that ships a lot of stuff, it's my opinion shipping companies are just as corrupt as politicians

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

PO, UPS THEY DON'T GIVE A RATS ASS

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That sucks, but 90% of the time, the box was packed like shit. They are brutal to all packages.

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 4

I ordered a forklift propane tank and they dented it. Regardless of how it's packaged it takes a hell of a lot of force to dent those.

8 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

Yeah I worked for usps for a bit. Fragile don’t mean shit unfortunately.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Next time pack it with crisps so if one pops at least it will scare the asshole who is damaging it on purpose

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I just separated from the military and USPS did the same thing with going away gifts I received.... Damaged the one item and lost the other

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

When packing stuff for mailing, always assume it will be launch 800 feet by a trebuchet.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's mind blowing how delivery companies have a universal bad rep. Every single company, everywhere.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not a terrible brother, people can't seem to take any pride in their jobs anymore. Even you think it's a shitty job do it well for yourself

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 5

Pushed so far for numbers, quality is sidestepped.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Agree that most people don’t take pride in their work nowadays, but big business asks for quantity over quality and what can be done

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Our UPS delivery guy says "you don't want us to take it cause you know we're gonna break it."

Had the same problem with USPS last year when I was deployed (in a boat not the desert) wife sent a box that arrived torn open in the corner

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Hey what boat? I'm getting ready to be a sub rider

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have panic attacks just thinking about being in a sub, I would have a breakdown when it actually submerged, so scary.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nah I'm looking forward to it. Much less motion then a surface vessel. Plus the deployments will be pretty short for me

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was part of the commissioning crew for LCS 7 USS Detroit.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Seriously fragile means nothing. Good packing bubbles mean everything. Sorry man, I had the same thing happen to me shipping gifts home

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Sorry bro. That sucks.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You have to wrap every single box as though it's going to be thrown 10 feet. Because it will be thrown 10 feet about 4 times or more.

8 years ago | Likes 476 Dislikes 0

My coworker says he'll never forget watching train unloaders throw (brand new packed) TVs from the top of the cars about 40 years ago.

Looks like a Indian Van Damme

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's not your fault :/ stupid usps.. i've heard about this. Did you buy insurance for it? I never do but i think this is why they ask

8 years ago | Likes 303 Dislikes 4

Insurance allowed me to turn my $400, 2yo computer into a $600, new computer when UPS sheared the CPU socket clear off the motherboard.

8 years ago | Likes 52 Dislikes 0

If it was shipped Priority it automatically comes with some insurance now. Then you could buy more. File a reimbursement claim with them.

8 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

It comes with $50 insurance plus you can get back the postage paid. Not much but at least hold them to that.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

@CheerlessBooch Incase you didn't see :/

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It bugs me cuz it’s like “we treat your packages like crap, so u should pay extra in case you need a refund.” Wtf, did i just get scammed?

8 years ago | Likes 241 Dislikes 1

You might want to ship something that is not easily breakable, like books, so you can get a cheaper rate on that. It doesn't look like »

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

FedEx or UPS even have that; only USPS even has the option of "uninsured" packages, on non-Priority shipping.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I didn't check DHL and so on.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Whats the point of all the damn labels if no one is expected to read them? USPS my American Institution... get better pls

8 years ago | Likes 66 Dislikes 3

Once upon a time I lived in Chicago. Packages go missing all the time. I knew someone who insured everything. Every 5-7 packages—payout.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

They read them if you buy the insurance so that they don't have to pay you and they break it so you next time, thats my theory anyways

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

I doubt that's true since the people dealing with your package wouldn't care either way.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

What state is he in? If he's anywhere near DFW, I'll hand deliver a new one if you need it.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Protip; slap an ORM-D label on anything you want handled with care. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ORM-D

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Nope. No one cares

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Former UPS boxliner here. The sticker you want is 'Biohazard'.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

This right here, this is the information we need. And then what do we put in it in case they check? Sealed vial of our own blood?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They don't check. Policy is to not deliberately open packages, ever. Sometimes things get wrecked on the belts, but that's not deliberate.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Cops show up with a warrant, they give the cops the box, unopened.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

idk, mine still get beat up. "oo 300 rounds of 5.56, nice" *toss* the store overtapes them and its all that holds it together at arrival

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

cat (angry)

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Just toss in a lighter to make it a factual statement they can't bitch about it.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I had a brand new laptop shipped from Germany to Sweden. The box had been run over by a forklift. Twice. F*ck you shipping dudes.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I don't think it could actually be run over by a forklift. They can't run over so much as a zip tie. But maybe a delivery truck could.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Sadly I don't have the pics left that I sent on the claim, but the tire marks were 8" wide, same as the truck at my work, and the box was ->

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Completely squashed on one side. A 3 ton forklift will run over just about anything as long as it's against something. Claim approved.

F-in great, not surprising tho.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I did noooot need this added anxiety today. I've got an expensive as fuck package coming and I'm already expecting it DOA. T-T *cue panic*

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

me too, and its a guitar...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Mine was a new gaming PC. Mine arrived unharmed thankfully. I hope yours does, as well! My UPS courier is usually really good.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

yup, no damage here as well.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

*high-five* Awesome, dude!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

USPS is awful. I avoid them as much as possible.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Eh, sounds like an extreme case if the outer box was wrecked to hell. But a word from someone that works in commercial aviation; 1)

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Your package should be able to stand a 30' drop without damaging what's inside. While for the most part we do handle packages with care

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Accidents happen. Things get dropped, they fall off carts, may inadvertently get ran over. This is why most companies have insurance,

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But staff honesty isn't always the best. Fragile/this side up stickers are pretty pointless. In the fast paced environment that is cargo

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Handling, if we took the time to carefully place every item, things would take forever. Packages will be tossed a few feet sometimes dropped

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So in closing, do remember to adequately pack value / fragile items really well. I always grossly over pack items.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

1) I read an article by someone that worked for (I think) FedEx. They said anything you want to ship that’s fragile, wrap it in newspaper

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

3) to be done to ship that. The article said that they saw an industrial type refrigerator fall on an Igloo type cooler and the cooler was

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

2) or bubble wrap or both, then buy a Igloo-type I’ve chest big enough to hold your thing, put in it, duct tape it, then do whatever needs

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

*ice* chest, stupid autocorrect.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

4) the worse for the experience. ***end***

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

*none* the worse, I was hella tired writing this.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I believe there is at least $100 of insurance on First Class.

8 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 1

First class is for parcels 13 ounces and under and carries no inherent insurance. Priority mail includes $50 and can add more.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Insurance can be added to FC packages but it's not included. Priority mail is insured up to $50 or you can add on in $100 increments.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

And then fight to appeal it after your insurance claim gets denied. Had it happen 3 times (lost packages) so I switched to UPS. No problems.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wow. With DHL any package is insured at 500€ by default.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

thats because DHL breaks and or loses more packages

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Had my very first problem with DHL this week when they returned a package and claimed they couldn't find my address. But that's all.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I worked for ups. All the boxes say fragile. Trust me they don’t give a fuck.

8 years ago | Likes 1051 Dislikes 1

I used to work at FedEx ground and they don't give a shit either.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I also worked there, these guys give 0 shits those boxes get thrown everywhere

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Kind of like the Boy Who Cried Wolf.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's like when every email you get is marked urgent.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Did the night shift for a couple years loading trucks and trailers. Can confirm no fucks.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

Fragile just means throw softer

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Is there like, some sort of delivery quota you're required to meet per day as a delivery person? It'd explain a bit. That or low wages.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If I ever ship anything fragile, I use a box that is 3x~ so i can pack in cushion to dampen any drops and rough the box around.

8 years ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 0

I currently have a case of beer in my checked luggage, packed so well cushioned it will have a better trip than me.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

When my wife and I moved to this godforsaken desert, we packed her monitor with memory foam pillows on either side, and regular pillows >

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

around that. When we opened it up, there was a perfectly clear imprint of a knee in her broken monitor.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They had to have tried REALLY hard to get their knee into it with that much force.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Probably because everyone marks it as fragile. If it's not really fragile it shouldn't be marked as such. It's the same thing that makes 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 6

baristas, waiters and chefs not really care about people claiming lactose or gluten intolerance. Regardless of whether its true, they 2/3

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 6

think it's most likely not true. Therefore why bother? 3/3

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 6

(i should specify: Makes SOME baristas, waiters and chefs not care. I'm sure they're a minority.)

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 5

I always just asked- "should we ensure absolutely no contamination, as if it is a food allergy?" Only about half said yes. Saved time.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

first time a customer starts having a rash and violent vomiting and diarrhea they will figure out why they should bother. bonus if the

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

customer also decides to sue the panties right off them. lmao.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

I did as well, high value items were thrown to the high value box, which was 2 stories down on a concrete floor. Can't leave sorting belt.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you wouldn't feel happy throwing your package off a building it hasn't been packed well enough. I only say this because I've seen them

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

If that's the case, how on Earth would OP send a package like that in time for his brother's birthday?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Put the board in a tight fitting wood case (or tape it between two boards) to give it some strength because it's just glue holding the /

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Chess board together. Then wrap that with bubble wrap of small then large bubbles, then pack that inside a large box and fill the gap with/

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Scrunched up news paper. Perhaps put single layer of bubble wrap between the wood board and the chess board

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ex-fedex here. Yep, the guy next to me thew every package into his truck each morning. Every. Package.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

My manager would straight up kick boxes up the belts.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Same, I remember pulling a box off the belt and let it drop. Heard a shatter. Someone had shipped a porcelain toilet and used (1/2)

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Nothing to pack it with with it was literally a toilet in a box. Didn't feel bad in the slightest. And that's the moto of UPS. (2/2)

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Worked Shipping. All of our skid lots were labeled "DO NOT STACK". Every trailer I loaded was stacked to the roof.

8 years ago | Likes 191 Dislikes 0

As someone who used to work in shipping department: If the transport comp. stacked even though we paid for floor space they are liable.

8 years ago | Likes 71 Dislikes 0

We have even sued for consequential damages (project delays, liquidated damages etc.) because of this.

8 years ago | Likes 47 Dislikes 0

Put a few big enough empty boxes on top, irregular, so they cant stack anything on top because it isnt flat. That's your best chance.

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

We take pictures after we load our do not stack skids.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

We did that too. Sadly, many shipping companies tend to "trans-ship". You can never predict how they will get re-stacked.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yep, I get stuff coming in damaged all the time because the trucking co. re-stacks to stack more skids on top.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's still fun when the customer calls to complain and the trucking company say we stacked them, BOOYA HAVE SOME PICTURES.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No intent to discredit you, but I’ve had more accountability from UPS than USPS

8 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 3

I got stuff shipped Fedex that they just left at the door instead of getting a signature. UPS is best.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Also, it seems to vary a lot by country... here in Germany UPS is about the best parcel service. DHL close second. Hermes is shit tier.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Hermes is SHIT EVERYWHERE. I have cancelled purchases after I found out Hermes was the only carrier the seller uses. NO thanks

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm serious, UPS and DHL are consistently the fastest here, and I've never had a damaged (or even scratched!) package from either.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Talking to people they work at these places I've found it's better to not mark it fragile cause some assholes purposely throw them around

8 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

Nobody sane is going to waste the time and effort to purposely damage specific boxes. Bigger issue is that I have several coworkers that

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

cant stack three boxes without ti falling over. They cant be arsed to put in a bit of effort to avoid future effort (restacking), they aint

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

gonna waste energy trying to damage boxes. Do note that if I hurt myself on your box, I will be not nice to it, but those are usually heavy

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

metal objects (with pointy or sharp edges) in weak boxes and no padding, so they dont give a fck what you do.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I work as a courier and i can categorically state we are indifferent to all stickers, even dog food sacks say fragile

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What if it said biohazard do not tip?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

simples-we don't touch anything with a hazard sign

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well, there goes that plan

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What about “fragile - liquid”? Someone who worked at UPS told me that nobody wants to clean up a wet mess so they’ll be more careful

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

fragile - poisonous gas

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I like the 'no walking' markings. Does that mean I can walk on all the others? And the 'do not penguin' ones. (do not cool/freeze). And the

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

'do not breakdown' ones. Thanks, but I'm holding it together pretty well. Maybe later, mental support box.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I want those assholes to get arrested. That's illegal and breaking some laws, I think. also AREN'T THEY FUCKING ADULTS?!?!

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

speaking from UPS experience, a lot of us aren't adults and a lot of us aren't fucking.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

referring to the in-building staff, who handle packages for work and work nights or early mornings. Not exactly conducive to a social life.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

so teenagers that just throw packages around for fun?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I do work with young people with dick-all respect for work ethic or concern for consequences of their actions, yes.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0
