Whenever someone brings up another demographic to strawman an argument about LGBTQIA+ rights, I use one rebuttal. "And since when have you cared about them?"
I found out in November that my town does pride in September. They looked around and all the nearby cities had pride events that would poach their attendance so they just schedule it then.
Enjoy the celebration. It may not apply to you but then neither does St. Patrick's Day, Cinco de Mayo, or Oktoberfest. Even if it's not your culture, you can still enjoy the festivities.
Hah love it, "what about veterans" My main man, the US military would not function without lgbtq+ people. Half of my division was some flavor of queer (myself included)
As a straight man with 3 sons I truly feel sorry for anyone so ignorant and uneducated they want to take rights or respects from others because they're different. Truly some kindergarten level logic at work
The public school system should have the authority to hold people in school indefinitely, but then school would be a nursing home and nobody would be educated.
I'm straight, white, and a veteran. I don't need any more days, I don't need any days really. I need a beer. thats about it. Want a 'straight pride' month? Its called every day for like, the past thousand years you absolute blocks of skin covered lead.
Even beyond that there’s so few of them statistically that making legislation banning what they can/can’t do is gross negligence of taxpayer money and congressional time
Idk, in the absence of being taught against it, my experience the average five year old will probably agree with you that we should be nice to people (or at least not discriminate against the queer community or any other particular group). Everyone has some innate biases, but acting on them with hate and reinforcing them is (by and large) a learned behaviour which comes much later.
My 10 year, three active tour, purple heart partner is a trans woman. She's a badass and a wonderful human being who thinks everything should have food, water and shelter and access to healthcare. I love her <3
The mountains and high desert are not IN reno, not the lakes or the river, but the river passes through the shithole that is the most corrupt town in nevada, and yes, that includes vegas, elko, winnemucca, ely, caliente, and the bombing range. reno is a thundercrap of losers and cheats. yep, thundercrap.
Veterans? You mean the people that fought and died to preserve the rights you assholes are trying to strip away? The same veterans that you are also systematically murdering by willful and intentional neglect?
I feel sorry for people who say things such as “what about straight pride month?” and “blue lives matter, too!”. The fact that the entire point and necessity of pride month and BLM is completely lost on them is just… sad.
Yep, and you just know the reason they say that is because they haven't done any actual thinking about the topic, they just watched someone else get mad about it on facebook, and watched (or contributed to) the comments going back and forth, and now they think they understand the issue. It's obvious, and it's disappointing.
They're just angry that they have nothing to fight for, so they create their own "battles". Fighting LGBT+ events, redneck insurrection, etc... "I'm NoT bEiNg OpPrEsSeD AnD iT's NoT fAiR!!!!!
All the best points have been made. And as always, it's not like heterosexuals are not welcome at Pride. We want you there as ally guests, having a good time with us!
They (the person in the hypothetical comment) want someone to use a car and do a burnout across the rainbow road. To mess up the paint and destroy the artwork. Does this help?
Not really. Okay so it's something with a car, but what do you actually *do* when you do a burnout? Like, what part of or what thing do you burn out, how and why? Do you set the car on fire?
I don't understand why people get so up in arms over LGBTQ+ people... Someone else's gender identity or sexual orientation has zero impact on your own life. I may not understand what would cause someone who was born male to feel like they need to be female but since it doesn't affect me I don't care. You do what you need to do to be happy and content.
What always got me was republicans being asked “how does gay marriage directly effect you?” and they’d always skirt around the question, and whenever was doing the interview kind of let’s it slide. Rarely did I see anyone press on, “but no… seriously. How does it effect you? How does it negatively impact anyone or anything?” They need to answer these questions and they never can.
They’re raised that only a narrow, specific world view is the only valid interpretation of life in order to be considered an ‘ethical and functioning’ member of society. Combined with existing outside this view and being scapegoated as the most severe threat to this ‘way’— LGBTQIA+ have z hard time.
Some people have formed their entire personality and self-image out of hate and anger and fear. Fighting fair is for suckers and the enemy only exists to be destroyed. The only reason they aren't out murdering people they don't like is the cops would eventually have to stop them, so they turn to shit like this instead.
too bad they cant rig some kind of metal mesh launcher to that Reno sign with a camera, if someone is doing a burnout they fire said net at the drive wheels and if all works out it wraps up on the axel and wheels and maybe even the driveshaft.
I assumed they were referring to doing a burn out in a vehicle, leaving behind tire marks on the painted rainbow walkway. But I could be wrong, so let me know what you find out @BythepowerofPlank
They've arrested or charged a couple of morons that did that already. Both in the US and Canada. You have to be pretty fucking stupid and childish if you think you're achieving anything doing that.
What about veterans? Well, 1 of my ancestors was a sergeant in the US Civil war. Another landed on Normandy not once but twice. Myself a Gulf War veteran. If you're not a veteran, don't try to fucking speak for us. We didn't sacrifice decades of our lives fighting slavers, racists, fascists and actual Nazis so some little bitch can cry about a rainbow representing rights & dignity other humans should already have. I'd feel better if Reno painted more rainbows. LGBTQ+ rights are human rights.
Also people have to pick their fights. Criticizing someone for caring about an issue because other issues exist is silly. If you want to fight for veteran rights, fight for veteran rights. That's respectable. Attacking pride for "getting more attention" helps nobody.
God I hate those arguments so much. Related because it's a lot of the same people making the arguments, it's like going through any comments thread about the writers strike and getting the same "fuckin millionaires complaining about billionaires" "well maybe if you stopped writing woke shit you'd get paid better" and "why aren't you striking for {insert any profession they think will make them look good} instead" from assholes who fundamentally and willfully misunderstand the issue
He volunteered to go in before the first wave with combat engineers to help breach obstacles. He figured the Nazis wouldn't be as shooty before the main landing. When that mission was over, he went back to his unit, which hadn't landed yet. So, got to land again. After causing some commotion in the landing craft by throwing his rifle and gear over the side. This freaked his platoon out, and when asked why he did it, he told them, "You can pick up whatever you want when you get to the beach."
You're right, I forgot about all the other civilians we killed. Also forgot about the hospitals and schools we blew up. And don't forget about Abu Ghraib!
I find it hilarious when idiots claiming to be patriots say "we should have a month for the military." When we already do. Literally right before pride month.
"What about veterans? Shouldn't we spend our tax dollars on them before lgbtq people?" "Do you want to use tax dollars to help veterans?" "God no, I want to help neither, I'm just trying to sound like less of an asshole by pretending to care about something."
OIF vet here also, I agree, They should not be persecuted like this. For any vets/active duty members out there, you should join the Regiment.gg Discord server. 40k+ members, sponsored by a few groups like USAA (Recent), and we are inclusive. Hope to see y'all there!

I double-checked Operation Chariot, didn't see any Americans in that one... Though OP may have UK heritage too. Or someone could be full of beans, I've learned over the years that a LOT of veterans stories are somewhat overstating their role. Especially as they become 2nd and 3rd hand stories. My great uncle was "in the Dieppe raid", for example... But this leaves out that he was held in reserve and never went ashore.
That part I had to suss out from the documents. Specifically the documents that verify that half the churchill tanks were held in reserve and that none of the tank crews who went ashore evaded capture or death. But I get it. "I sat in a tank on a boat for a day while all my friends got killed" doesn't make for a good story.

Unfortunately, it isn't ignorance or stupidity. It's outright malice that drives them. They openly ENJOY watching LGBT people suffer.

I miss living in Reno sometimes. No reason for me to go back, living in Wisconsin now, but it was a fun place to live

I do not miss reno or anything about it. IMHO it's a shithole i lived in for 30 years. i was there on monday, still a shithole.

You sound like you could be my cousin, lol.
AntaNce
it's literally a possibility, lol. i am adopted. reno is still a shithole even if we are cousins, tho.

Then not cousins, but yeah, the best features of Reno is the landscape around it, ha. Glad they aren't all cunts, tho.
