Not sure if true: a vet told me a long time ago that it doesn't really hurt the dogs all that much as they can navigate using scent trails.

I had a blind dog. We planted different herbs around the yard so he’d know where he was because of the different smells. It worked great.

It was great, he developed a mental map of the yard. If we called him, he’d go towards the nearest plant then follow his nose to us :)
