Boba Fett in The Star Wars Holiday Special, two years before showing up in The Empire Strikes Back.

The comic strip that originated Popeye (Thimble Theater) actually had nothing to do with him, it did, however, feature Olive Oyl. Here's Popeye's first cameo in the comics.

In 1957, Jim Henson was approached by a coffee company to produce commercials for Wilkins Coffee. The character on the right (Will) would often do serious harm to his friend in the ads, such as shooting him. Soon after, Will became the main inspiration for Kermit the Frog.

The first 3D draft of Buzz and Woody from Toy Story (1990s).

The Swedish version of Gollum from the original novel...

...The Soviet version of Gollum was even worse...

...And then there's the German version of Gollum.

Dirk Zimmer's 1988 illustrations of The Iron Giant.

Before The Ring, there's was a pornographic low-budget TV movie called Ring: Kanzenban that was based on the same story.

Illustration from one of the oldest versions of Beauty and the Beast (1875).

H.P. Lovecraft's original drawing of Cthulhu (1934).

Live - Action Mr. Clean (1960s).

In 1995, for his thesis film, Seth MacFarlane made a 10-minute animated short called The Life of Larry, which soon became a predecessor to Family Guy, In fact, early templates of Family Guy can be seen in the short.

One of Walt Disney's oldest drawings of Mickey Mouse.

In 1954, the first onscreen James Bond was in a low-budget black-and-white TV movie called Casino Royale.

During production on Frozen (2013), Elsa was originally intended to be the villain, at one point, she was going to wear a coat made out of living weasels.

The child/teddy bear that inspired Winnie the Pooh and Christopher Robin (1928).

Wait...The life of Larry was made by Seth MacFarlane?! Man, what is up with the world

Those coffee commercials are a hell of a trip. "Drink our coffee or INCREDIBLE VIOLENCE WILL BE DONE TO YOUR PERSON."

Lovecraft definitely drew like a writer, huh?

FUN FACT: they sample Boba Fett from the Star Wars Holiday Special on the first Unkle album. It's the "Maybe I can help you".

Ring: Kanzenban is not a porno. It is just an 80s movie so tits and sex are everywhere.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's actually a 1995 TV Movie. The TV version had T&A, although the home video version added even more graphic sex scenes

Didn't realize Gollum was created by Tim Burton

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

the real Christopher robin hated the winnie the pooh books

I work at a tourist attraction and when I see the frozen merchandise and their fake 3D faces everywhere I wish it was more like the one here

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think these Gollum versions are pretty good. A different take on him, but I could see it work.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And the different size and shape is attributed to the corruption of the ring? Gollum is a Hobbit, although a little different...

That Wilkins coffee puppet is pretty psychotic https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ZxLyuw5bdyk

We all want coats of living weasels. But life just doesn't go around handing those out like lemons.

I was a little upset that the robot wasn't another country's Gollum art

Winnie the Pooh was inspired by the true story of Harry Colebourn adopting a baby bear in the beginning of WWI. (1of2)

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

The last one is false, winnie was based on a canadian bear and christopher robin was introduced in 1926, neither are inspired by this photo.

In the (ridiculous) added Jabba scene in Ep IV, is Boba Fett part of the original shot that was cut or is he digitally added?

Pretty sure the guy on the right in the ring porno is benicio del ttoro

Actually, it's the Finnish, not the Swedish version of Gollum; the artist Tove Jansson (also the author of the Moomins) was born in Finland.

It looks a bit like Mårran (Swedish name of the monster in "Vem kan trösta knyttet" )

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I *thought* it looked like her artstyle!

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

To add to the confusion, she was a Finland swede so she spoke and wrote in Swedish.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The illustration is from the Swedish translation of The Hobbit, which she illustrated. We try to beat the Swedes in everything we can.

9 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 1

I warmly recommend checking out her other illustrations from The Hobbit, they're really different from what we nowadays see as "LOTR:ish"!

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

When I first read the Hobbit as a kid I always pictured Gollum as more similar to these illustrations, actually.

There was a speaker at my college that was a movie producer. Everyone was excited to go until we learned that he directed SW Holiday Special

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That would only serve to make me more excited, honestly.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Because he directed one of the shittiest movies ever?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's not a movie, it's a holiday special. And

Steve Binder's account is an interesting read http://www.slashfilm.com/star-wars-holiday-special-oral-history/
