Dear Imgur, Help

Jan 26, 2017 4:24 AM

I eat pretty well, drink enough water, and wash my face 1-2 times a day. I have the oiliest face of anyone I know. I'm 26 and I don't remember a time when I didn't have acne. I don't know why my face produces so much oil. Are there any formerly-oily imgurians out there?
What works for you?
Thanks in advance. I just left a face-print on my husband's stomach.

Stop showering so much.

Don't take this the wrong way: change your diet. Some foods most people eat makes their skin oily.

Adult acne sucks. After you wash, do you use any moisturizing lotion? That made a huge difference for me. Use a sensitive skin kind.

I had really bad genetic acne, going on the pill really helped regulating hormones and has made it go away, I also have an oily face.

The pill didn't help me :/

Sounds like you need a doctor to figure that one out, though I would suggest only washing once a day. Twice is actually excessive, and 1/

Washing causes a spike in oil production. Once a day, before going to bed, is plenty. The acne issue though, that calls for a doctor. 2/2

I suffered with oily skin and acne for years, then I found the oil cleansing method a few years back. Totally works. Google it.

The idea is to fight oil with oil, right?

There are oil cleanser products you can buy...the Koreans make the best ones. But I just use coconut oil, and it works great

Exactly...I'm no science person, but apparently oil dissolves oil. You follow up with a gentle soap cleanser and you're left with clean skin

It may seem weird, but try washing your face less. Some of those oils are necessary and if you're washing thoroughly 2 times a day it >

Could be doing more harm than good.

I'll try that. I used to was my face less but the lady selling face soap convinced me to wash more (of course)

Well take what she says with a small grane of salt since if you wash twice as often, then they sell twice as much soap to you...so very bias

Use a clean pillow case every night, or try an antimicrobial one. Less bacteria on your face = less acne.

I tried the clean pillow case, but I never thought of an antimicrobial one.

They didn't make a huge difference but every little bit helps. They're also not expensive, $10 for a two-pack at Wal-Mart.

If you can afford a consultation you should book a session with an esthetician

I may try that!

My wife used to have really bad acne but once she started going regularly it cleared up a ton. She still gets pimples but much, much fewer

Thanks a lot

Thanks a lot

No problem. You usually start off with once a month and then after you start to progress it's only a couple of times a year
