excuse me?! dragonlance had a FUCKLOAD of dragons

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I want to slap whoever made the one about Skyrim

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Love that monster manual cover... And I have a White Box. And Chainmail... Cred

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Bob Ross would beat the devil out of the devil

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

.... but the Skyrim one is from Dragonlance

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Glad I'm not the only nerd that recognized that.

For those looking to get into D&D, check out games that welcome new players on roll20. They have a custom search filter for that.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

If there were interest here I'd also gladly run a simple game or two to help newcomers find their footing.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I'm an experienced player, but I would join to fill out the party and help move things along/cause shenanigans, if there's interest.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'd be happy to join in, I'm pretty new played like 5 times in my one campaign

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Never played D&D, but I'd genuinely like to get into it. Though it seems a bit daunting.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

D&D groups usually are nice to newbies. If you can't find a group locally, roll20.net is good. Or play-by-post.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It really isnt. You just need to find a group and start playing.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

If you ever feel like taking the plunge, you could always look on roll20 for games welcoming new players.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Good place to start if you think it’s daunting is the most recent 5E, it is very simplified compared to previous editions, especially 3.5

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Is pathfinder the same as d&d? Asking for a friend

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Basically, Paizo asked nicely to borrow 3.5 and 4.0, took the best bits of both, added a few original bits. What came of that was Pathfinder

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

It took what was good about 3.5 and expanded upon it while fixing some of the things that weren’t so great. It’s essentially 3.5 version 2

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Minor mechanical differences, but close. In some ways it was more like D&D than 4th Edition D&D, hence pic #3.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's based on 3.5 Edition.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Yes

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

yes. It's literally just 3.5 edition but slightly different. which, if you're not familiar, is a good reason to stay away.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Alright, whats your quest? make money and fuck bitches dawg.. you can't do-- i just did dawg... Excuse me MTR, i like join too. (key&peele)

Slap that hobbit bitch

"The only gods I pray to are money and bitches"

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

#35 is why my DM only does point buy now.

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

I respect point buy, but my 18 18 17 14 12 5 lead to a Druid with an int of 5. He could not speak or understand any language.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

He was a fucking blast to play, as he legit tried to help the party, he just couldn't hear their words. That can't happen with point buy.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I prefer point buy simply because class disparity only gets worse when the core building blocks of your character are randomized.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

It's why all the games i run are point buy, too. That and it prevents ultra-screwed chars

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Which one's point buy?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

For DnD 5e, start with 27 and buy stats using this: /a/AePMQ

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A system where different ability scores have different costs, so that it is progressively more expensive to have higher scores, for balance.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I dm'd for the first time today and it was AMAZING!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Congrats!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

When I DM I'm going to always wear a Reaper outfit.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

#3 Fourth Edition should be Leonard Part VI.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

FUCK YOU OP, YOU FUCKING FUCK. I FUCKING CRIED LIKE A BITCH AT THAT PART.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

and I had a shitty enough fucking day without you dropping unexpected fucking sad-bombs on me.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I’m a 38 year old dude and I can’t watch that movie because of Artax and the Rockbiter scene where he lets the nothing take him.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

What. Did. I. Say. About the sad-bombs?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Atreyu rolled a 20. Artax didn't.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

After acquiring two cursed weapons in as many nights from chests, that Arnold one is so true

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I really wish I had a group to play with

8 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

i run pathfinder via Steam Chat. One of my players is in Sweden, and i'm in Oregon. You don't need a local group if you're determined enough

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Check RPGA / Pathfinder Society, depending on which game you want to find a group for.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

If you can’t find a local group I suggest Roll20.net, it’s a community of people like yourself who want to play and don’t have groups 1/

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Thank you I'll get started right now

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And it’s a virtually tabletop so you can play with anyone across the world 2/

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And it's a really good and easy to use website :)

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Roll 20 feels really hard to find a group on

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I’m just starting up a group, where you at?

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I'm looking for a group to join, I have pretty open availability

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Where you at?

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Austin, Texas

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ok so according to google that’s only 4,988 miles away... shit man I’m sorry. London, England :(

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I'm in London!

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You both need to look up tabletop simulator on steam

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

The thief relates to me, my character is a kleptomaniac with a love for shoes, recently he took the shoes of a dead woman at her funeral

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Got caught taking the second shoe and was attacked by her father who he proceeded to stap in the head with a dagger... Group wasn't pleased

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Anyone know how to get into a d&d game? I try roll20 and the tangled web but there's so many applications and I don't think I'd ever be

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Check out your friendly local game shop and see if they run games

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Accepted since I'm pretty rusty at d&d, the last time I played it was 3 years ago

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm looking for a group, but would need a dm

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You can also try forums for play-by-post. Slow, but undemanding on scheduling and you always have time to look up rules if you're rusty.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

3.5 and Pathfinder are easily the best

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

I certainly like them the best, but other members of my gaming group have said good things about 5e and even 4e. Different strokes, I guess?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I mean, 4e is okay. I can't stand 5e, myself.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Agreed

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

ARTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAX!

8 years ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 0

Artax failed his save vs. sadness check. Then I failed my save vs. sadness.... I'm not crying! You are!!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

TOO SOON

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I hope this conveys the TRUE SEVERITY of rolling a one... most DMs are WAYYYYY too lenient. Should *at least* result in serious injury.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So every adventurer has a 5% chance any time they roll something to have some something difficult or impossible to reverse happen to them?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not necessarily, there are skill points that get added to the roll but hilarity often insures.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I mean automatic ones on saves and attacks are just auto fails regardless of your bonus to them.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thats true, we refer to them as snatches as opposed to 20's being natches. We even use a "critical miss" deck of cards for such occasions

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not every time (no PC should break their arm lifting a pint of ale), but if the roll is preceded with an "are your sure?", then yes.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Difficult? yes. Impossible to reverse? Depends on the situation.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Note the or there. Important word.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The most delightful thing about being a DM is watching your players fight over pulling levers that do absolutely nothing.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Part of me wants to pull a Richard Garriott and have a dungeon room full of children with a hidden (true) lever to free them…

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

…and an obvious (false) lever that drops them into lava.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's fucking amazing. Please do that and tell me how it goes xD

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

#2 is actually the most obnoxious thing in the world. Please stop playing Belkar Bitterleaf in actual games, thanks.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I once joined a Roll20 game where a GM wanted to playtest new PF classes. We ended up solving an encounter with kobolds through diplomacy

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

(2)not sure how I felt, considering it was supposed to be a playtest. But still memorable and fun. Also That Guy died, so that was nice

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm glad I'm not trying to find a public group, because these imgur memes are going to produce nothing but I ROLL FOR ATTACK characters.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

3.5 isn’t Daniel Craig. It’s someone handing you all the ingredients for a vodka martini and a pencil and saying “There! Have an adventure.”

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

That meme needs to be updated. 5th Ed. has been out for a while now...

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

and if you don't wanna play a wizard or cleric, too bad, you twiddle your thumbs while they get all stuff while you get like +1 to hit.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Yup. 3E/3.5E fighter is absolute garbage. Pathfinder is beautiful.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Maybe if you just have the players handbook. A little psionics+feats out the ass and you're murdering everything in no time.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Pathfinder's still bad about caster Supremcy, honestly 4e was on the right track in giving the melee classes cool shit to do.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

I just need to say, fucking thank you. God. 4e brought so much to the table and no one gave a shit.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wow. Someone besides myself who doesn't irrationally hate everything about 4E?

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It didn't do things perfectly, but oh boy 5e is a massive step backwards compare to 4e

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Pathfinder buffed all classes, but it buffed wizards even more. D6 hit dice + special ability non-spells, some of which are 80% as good as

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Wizards basically can't take a PrC in Pathfinder, though. You gain CL and spells/day, but no spells added to book. Not a nerf, but it helps.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wizards can learn 2 spells automatically when they gain levels. I don't know what 3.5 was concerning that.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

magic missile.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Be fair here. Fighter in PF is still garbage. Now Warblade. Those bastards were great.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

"psionics are overpowered. /ban" -shitty GM

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Don't know why you're downvoted. Anyone who banned psionics for being overpowered without banning wizards, clerics, and druids is an idiot.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I really hate DM's who ignore the rules. We are meant to be playing the same game and you undermining the core game whenever you feel like

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 3

found the 3.pf player

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Only played 5e I'm afraid.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

2/ it only engenders mistrust in me. I can't build any kind of character knowing you may flake out on it at a moment's notice.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

if there's a modification of rules, it has to be agreed on as a group as sometimes you need to houserule it.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Not every player feels the way you do. I bend the rules when it will make the game more fun. Besides, they're more guidelines than anything.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If they're just guidelines then why use them at all? Why bother having attacks and AC or spells. Why not just say the PC's just save

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

3/ decided to nerf me mid game. You know, a houserule.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

2/ everything. And please tell Me, how does nerfing a character mid game count as fun? Because my DM couldn't counter me effectively he

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I think it's a matter of trust. As long as the DM is consistent with their application (or lack thereof) of the rules as written.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This. Also, it's nice to know ahead of time if the DM is ignoring/changing a rule. Sucks if you can't plan because the DM's unpredictable.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've been nerfed mid game in two separate campaigns by two separate DM's. No homebrew crap, official content and I still got nerfed.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Summoner?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Paladin with Heavy Armour Master feat and the 2nd time was a Monk who my DM prevented chain stuns from. It wasn't even guaranteed to land.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just started a new campaign, I'm a bugbear druid named Chunk. I love him.

8 years ago | Likes 89 Dislikes 0

Kineticist retired last night. I'm looking forward to playing Maka the Tiny, my half giant gunslinger.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I love it.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Same. It's gonna be great when I introduce him. "My name is Maka and I use daka!"

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Lizard folf cleric named Dree who believes anything can be cooked well and worships a god of ring making who's name he can't pronounce.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My last campaign I was a 2 foot Grippli Bard named Gayfus Groostout. I wielded a mighty Triangle and a whip. My str was a whopping 2. lol

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm a halfling ranger who rides a dire bat. I'm utterly useless unless you need it to rain Alchemist's Fire.

fussy Dragonborn Wizard from a halfway house who is on the run after having an affair with a noble's daughter

Of which god? A deity of art and beauty?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I’m a swashbuckler named Scurvy Rogers in my campaign, he specializes in riding monsters and/ or seducing them

So... riding monsters or riding monsters?

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Fuckin sweet. I wanna be a super nerdy cleric type next campaign!

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Our cleric sacrificed a horse in our home base and the monk and him got in a fight that ended up blowing out a wall

Or you could take my path and be a drunken hillbilly dwarf cleric

I'll see your drunken hillbilly dwarf cleric and raise you a drunken hillbilly dwarf sorcerer.

Check out critical roll, its a bunch of voice actors that play its amazing

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

...Any way someone knows if I can just sit in and watch a game happen? It would be cool to learn while watching. In ontario, Canada. (2/2)

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Watch critical roll, pretty good

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not quite a "sit-in," but I really enjoyed listening to The Adventure Zone. It's a goofy D&D podcast played by a father and his sons. (1/2)

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They just recently finished the first story, with about 70 episodes. Each an hour-ish. It's available for free on maximumfun.org. (2/2)

Not exactly a sit in, but my friends and I play using online tools and I stream it on Saturdays if you like!

Google around. Lots of folks do it as a play-by-post on forums. D&D 3.5 is easy to get into because 90% of the rules are free/open source.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

thanks, any subreddits you suggest?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

HOLD ON. do no get into 3.5. it's literally the HARDEST to get into and will turn you off from learning new systems cuz you'll think (1)

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I don't reddit. Have been running a play-by-post game for the last ~10 years. All my players are in their mid 30s to 40s. Some of us 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

have been together for twice that long. Play-by-post is easier for most of us; we're old and have spouses, jobs, kids, etc., so it's 1.5/2

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

(2)they're all like that. 3.5 players just have stockholm syndrome, that's why they defend it so vehemently

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

This is kinda bullshit. Most of my gaming group plays 3.5, but also happily plays Pathfinder, and 4th or 5th edition. I don't because 1/2
