Again. “ITS YOUR DUTY TO REFUSE UNLAWFUL ORDERS”. Be better than your government. It’s not hard to do. Start by not pulling a IDF and killing children and civilians. Also they won’t take care of you if you make it back. That was a lie.
I spoke with a young woman at my job the other day. She told me she was going to Basic Training in 90 days and was going to be an infantryman. I replied that Iran is beautiful in the summertime and I hope she enjoys it
Absolutely zero sympathy, as a Veteran myself. If you aren't willing to accept discomfort (Brig) to save an innocent life, then fuck you. I hope anybody taking part in combat in Iran hangs.
The soldiers can legally refuse, its an illegal war. Congress did not approve of Trump's attack. Even tho Israel & Saudi asked Trump.
"Soldiers are obligated to refuse unlawful orders based on the requirement to uphold the U.S. Constitution and, specifically, under Article 92 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ), which mandates obedience only to lawful orders. The, legal duty is rooted in the principle that service members must not commit crimes or unethical acts."
That would be precisely why the drunkard in the DePaRtMeNt Of WaR is blocking officers from attending the top ivy league schools. Can't have them knowing they can refuse.
Are we still pretending this is remotely likely? When have soldiers in the USA military ever refused illegal orders? I'm genuinely asking, if you know of any examples of it. So far, during trump's 2nd term with all the illegal boat strikes, illegal kidnapping of Maduro, and now this, who is refusing any of these clearly illegal orders? I know some officers resigned in protest, wonderful, but then someone more obedient steps in and the illegal actions continue...
Anyone reading this in the US armed forces at the moment, and/or able to comment on the current internal culture? What are the chances that refusal of these orders would be accepted by the others? What are the chances the people refusing would end up in an unmarked grave? I am guessing that the soldiers could not refuse to be deployed over in the middle east (nothing illegal about being put on a hip or plane headed over there). Once you're there, well.... you're a long way from home.
Not currently in, but I was during our last "conflict". We had a guy get court martialed, went to Leavenworth for two years, and got a dishonorable discharge, which I would say is similar or slightly worse than a felony on your record. It's a rough choice to make
I wasn't privy to the court martial, but it's established law that presidents can backdoor their way into war without congressional approval simply by calling it a conflict. Thus there was no unlawful order given.

Whole lotta unthinking denial about GWOT Vol 2. anyway. Some folks are probably still convinced Saddam had yellow cake.

Did that person get the chance to prove the order they were given was illegal?

Seems like this time might be easier since the president and the "secretary of war" called it a war multiple times.
