This is down to the owner of the child. Most of the children I know, can stroke an animal correctly and gently.

Children are like guns in that regard. Don't point them at anything you wouldn't mind destroying.

I have a home video my parents filmed of me picking up a chipmunk at the cottage, I still feel bad for the chipmunk and wonder if it was ok.

My niece and nephew each picked my cat up once. Once.

I had a "two finger petting rule" with my kids when they were younger. No grabbing, mashing or molesting; pet with two fingers only.

I've found two kinds - some are incredibly slow, careful and gentle with animals, and then some try to pick up a cat by one back leg.

or run after them and kick them...

Picked up the family cat by the tail when I was 3. She avoided me until a few months before she died, ~13 years later.

My daughter picks up our cat around the waist and it just hangs there. I dont get how my cat can be fine with it.

When I was 6 i had my pinkey finger bitten by my baby sitters cat when I was simply petting her, learned real quick after that day

That's why you teach them. My daughter is very good with the dog and being gentle and she's not even 2 yet.

The way adults shoot at gorillas trying to protect a child stresses me out!

I feel like they would attack if they didn't like it. Maybe animals are secretly into that shit.

The way I handle children stresses parents out.

Me too. I'm so glad we don't have tiny animals. If they tried to pick up the huskies they would just get laid on and kicked to death

Licked*. OMG time for bed.

My neice is one of few people i trust to hold my lizard. She's legit learning reptile care, and she's super gentle with him.

To clarify. SHE is gentle. I wouldnt trust any other neighbourhood kid to hold him for even a second, one kid tried lifting him by his tail.

It's why I'm kind of glad my cats have massive trust issues and won't let anyone but me and my partner near them.

Makes me think of Elmira from Tiny Toons.

Oh god my two boys are obsessed with our cat and I can tell the cat just hates every fiber of their beings but she puts up with it usually

Children are the type of people that pet an animal so aggressively that it loses a handful of fur on every unfortunate stroke.

You got to pat her so she FEEELS it

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My mom uses the one finger rule with kids. If you're touching an animal, only one finger. Prevents grabbing and other mistakes until older.

This remind me of the vid of the kid biting the parakeet

I can only assume the child lost several eyes.
