Between the Stars is a space action video game with traces of RPG, management and roguelike elements. In it, we’ll live our adventure advancing in the universe and upgrading our ship, Captain and crew in order to be able to withstand the space war that is currently being fought.

Stations function as a supply point across space. In them the majority of the services a Captain could need are available; a weapons store, hiring crewmembers, stash, repairs, contracts…

There are also special stations where parts of the story or different surprise events happen, in them we will live risky situations which we will have to overcome in order to pursue our path for peace in space.

In stations, we’ll take care of everything related to our ship and crew. Visiting different stations and looking at what they have to offer will make you much more prepared for the dangers of space. Not all stations are the same, and you need to know where you are going to get the best offers in order to optimize your benefits and combat effectiveness.

Not every station we find in the universe will be friendly. Depending on the decisions you make and towards what faction you help, many will change their opinion about you, for better or for worse.

The system that generates stations is procedural. It functions with different modules that adapt to each other to form random constructions. These modules are categorized by faction and function. This allows ships to dock in docking points independently of how they are formed.

Remember you can play the demo and give us your feedback!

Download the playable demo on steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/727130/Between_the_Stars/

Or on this direct link: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1v_xS_DMrFUIQS2VzaCarVuyJsht-nyH7?usp=sharing

Is the name an Elliot Smith reference? If so, bravo!

Downloaded the demo played it and loved it. Waiting the release of the full game. Of course

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But is there an economy? I need my fix and X4 isn't coming soon enough.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You had me at Freelancer.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Look like what X4 should have looked like :D

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Demo you say....

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

@OP I played the demo please release it so I can throw money at you

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Haha! We're glad you liked it! You can throw money our way via our kickstarter!

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hey, I just streamed this today, it was a lot of fun. I can't wait to see what you guys do with it! Good luck with the Kickstarter!

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thank you!

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Any future Linux support?

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yes, we will release a linux version a few month after launch. We're only two devs and we can't launch different versions at once.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

While I'm a nerd for Space Sims, the one I'm waiting for atm is X4, but I'll try yours once I'm done with my current X3:AP LitCubes Universe

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Your game also kind of gives me the Starpoint Gemini/Warlords vibe, which is a good thing. Freelancer/Tachyon anyone? :D

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I played the demo last week and absolutely loved it! The end of the prologue crushed me too. You're onto something solid here

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thank you! We're glad you liked it!

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Has it got customisable ships? Not just a wide variety of ships, but the ability to make Frankenstein creations of a ship

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It does look great

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Played this demo last night after seeing I had the game on my wishlist, its going great

please for the love of god back this! the demo is freaking amazing and i have put in money. such an amazing game by a small group.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Thanks!

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Looks like a cool concept, I'll download the demo and give it a try!

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Nice! Thank you!

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Played the demo, then immediately backed it for $250. I have faith in what your team is going to do - god speed.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That's amazing! Thank you so much for your support!!

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wow! Out of nowhere.. this looks like a game i want to play.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The demo's a nice diversion, but I'd still love quest-active areas of space that aren't filled with fine colored haze.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Sure!

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Looking forward to it! Game's filling my Freelancer void. Any chance of a broadside cam? I get snapping issues when trying to look side on.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes. We'll try to improve the camera system.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Played it. Grabbing loot and the controls are both a little weird. The missions and story are interesting. Overall, 5/7

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Also got a hold of the demo, it's fun but damn the controls are goofy. Also so much inspiration from Elite Dangerous they should pay em lol

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A perfect score then.

7 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Thank you. We'll try to polish all that aspects in the final version!

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

There's a lot of things I would suggest looking at. I wouldn't call them BUGS, though. Do you want them in bug report? In a reddit? What?

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Like you want, you can send a bug report or create a post on steam forums but a reddit would be fine too.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Okay. I'll start writing it up. It's mostly QOL things, like the lack of a charge bar for docking (like hyper speed has).

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I love freelancer so much,I'm definitely going to try this out thanks op!

7 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

I loved Freelancer! I'm going to definately check this out soon!

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thanks to you for playing!

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Playing the demo now, is the screen supposed to be hued red? 2: Are the "salvage pods" loot boxes? If so this game is DOA in this genre.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

3: The controls/docking system is rough. Is there a reason you can't do the mouse controls that Freelancer perfected?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Salvage pods are just random stuff. You can only get them in game as reward. There will be NO paid content in the game at all.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Excellent to hear! Is the red hue on the 1080 a known problem?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do you mean the red hue of the ambient lighting? It's given by the sun color, we have to reduce the intensity with the red suns.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

All I care about. Can I mine? I wanna farm fucking shit. I'm part Chinese. Mining and crafting are so enjoyable.

7 years ago | Likes 67 Dislikes 1

Im currently playing Avorion, mine space rocks and build your ship out of it

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Eve Online would be your jam then.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I, too, would enjoy a single-player Eve Online. ;)

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do you enjoy games with VIP and Ultra VIP exclusive mining zones and gear?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I suggest X3: Albion Prelude or X3: Terran Conflict. You can mine and use the materials to build weapons and goods to sell.

7 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Factorio

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah I have about 400 hours in factorio

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Check out Galaxy on Fire 2 on android and iOS.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do you love New Eden?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You might like Avorion then.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

this

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Have you considered going pro and moving to North Korea?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Have you tried Minecraft?

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I prefer Terraria. But yes. I have a few hundred hours...

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

If you love mining you should checkout Avorion: https://store.steampowered.com/app/445220/Avorion/

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It got multiplayer (you can play it also solo) and you can go crazy with the ship creation: (not mine)

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

(I hope the dev of this post don't get angry at me because i link another space game here ;) )

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Have you p;layed Freelancer Discovery?

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

No but can I mine?

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Lol yea

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Can I craft?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hmmm maybe... I can't remember

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Too much some would say! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_wQy-XcCl60

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Some people are wrong, mining is life. I always pick mining as a profession

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Avoid Elite. Revise at the end of the year tho. Maybe they'll fix it.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well back when I played it was by far the most profitable one. Ah good times pirating miners... Then they started mining with battleships.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Looks nice, just don't get the Star Citizen syndrome going on please. I'd like to play the space thing sometime while I still live

7 years ago | Likes 177 Dislikes 4

And your son and grandson also alive

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah I bought into Star Citizen last year. What a waste. Excited for Bethesda's space sim though, they actually get shit done.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

wwwwwwwwwwwwwhat? Bethesda Space Sim?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Starfield. They announced it at E3 but no content is available yet. They made it sound like an open world (Skyrim style) space RPG.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Check out Limit Theory.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Unfortunately, I think the odds of that ever coming out have converged on "never" at this point.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There was a while there were it looked like that, but nah it's coming. He's got more people working on it now

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Per the most recent stuff on the forums, not anymore he doesn't. It's back to Josh as a solo act.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What? Shit. I stop following closely and the whole thing goes off the rails again, damnit!

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wait what?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Star Citizen syndrome?

7 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 0

The dude who also had a big hand in Freelancer is very bad at having big ideas that actually become games in a timely manner.

7 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 2

Really, his biggest issues is that he refuses to compromise on those big ideas, thinking that just throwing money at it will solve it.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You mean Chris Roberts? Also, we've seen less from Cyberpunk and so far they had a similar timeline for a much smaller game

7 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Probably because they're a traditional game studio and they don't trumpet every little but fix and patch as the biggest advance in gaming.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Kinda close, since Star Citizen is crowdfunded they can't just go dark for five years. The other option was a publisher like EA, they >

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

CD Projekt Red has recently created one of the best games of all time so they get some slack.

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

I don't think there is anything wrong with either of them, good games take time to develop. CD Projekt Red can just afford to keep quiet >

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Ohh ok. Thank you for explaining. :)

7 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

They got a ton of crowdfunding, feature creep happened, and now they're way behind. Should be great eventually, but it's going to be awhile.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IHUbzzKJXBc I find this is a fun watch if you want additional info. It's a veritable clusterfuck

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

A guy kickstarted a game called Star Citizen in 2011, he has generated almost $200,000,000 and the game still isn't out yet 7 years later.

The original target was 6Mil, can you really blame them for increasing the scope of the project with 200Mil at their disposal?

7 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Yes, actually. the correct dev philosophy is to launch then keep building, since they went past (minimum viable to be good) and into

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

2/2 Let's keep adding entirely new features (unnecessary for the -core- game) instead of launching and then doing Major updates

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

The Target was 500k. You can fault them for having missed release date by 4+ years when their targeted crowd support was exceeded 400000%

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

40000%*

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That original date was based off a different concept though. Essentially Squadron 42 with less content. Idk money talks and 199.5M says alot

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Last i heard, they are currently being sued by cryengine.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

On what grounds, other than being incredibly slow?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

IIRC. they had a sweetheart deal with cryengine, where they got a discount but had to heavily promote cryengine when they marketed.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

it gets rather technical from there, but you can read all about it with a quick google. idk if its been resolved yet.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

2/3 but then they switched part way through the build to amazon lumberyard which is based on cryengine, but unrelated, violating some terms.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

$200 million?!

7 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Per this article from Jan 2018, it's 175 million. So yes probably 200 mil by now

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That's enough to build a friggin empire. That's more than some game companies are worth that actually make and release games. I'm floored.
