Sorry for the late reply, but that’s the total cost after taking it in for a rattling noise. The metal clip would scrape the rotor, and after taking it to the shop twice and them replacing the rotors and something else I forgot, it totaled to over 1k. I then decided to look myself, and this brake pad clip was the problem the whole time.
More context would be nice. We can’t read minds. Considering a full set of pads is in the ballpark of $125 for a good set, there must be more to this story.

Changing porsche brake pads.. at the dealer? 5k.. doing it yourself? 3k. And that's aftermarket, not even on a carbon ceramic set. I think just about any high performance car brand will be up there

Have rather excessively large breaks for my slightly speedy car means I get pads suitable for tracking, which cost me about 200 a pair. This seems excessive.

Ooof been there before, sucks when stuff is wrong and you can't figure out what it is. Glad you figured it out, and despite the high cost, at least you got the satisfaction of solving the problem yourself :-)

I paid for the whole brake pad, I'm using the whole brake pad.

My AMG pads aren’t even that much. Oh well, silver lining, and all that :)

You can shirt in a box and put a warranty on it..
BlastyMcBlastblast
over a thousand bucks?!! damn son, it's cheaper to just run people over
MadCat221
Sounds more like the pad got ground down to its backer plate and thus wrecked the rotors too.
