While I was working a camp program for a school, during a hike this girl joined us along and followed us for the entire hike. When they went canoeing, she decided to hop in the water and swim with them, and the lifeguards had to grab their boat to go save her.
For her courageous efforts to make sure all the kids were safe, she was awarded the name "Hero"
I'm more than certain she was abandoned by a previous owner. She got used to living at home super quickly, and already knew what a bag of treats sounds like. I did try to see if she had a previous owner, but haven't found anyone looking for her no does she have a microchip.
She loves basically everyone she meets, and absolutely the most loving and playful kitty I've met. Very glad I was at the right place and time to rescue her from the outside.

Please chip your pets! it costs next to nothing and greatly increases the chance of you being reunited with your pet if they do get out. Also update the info when you move, or change phone number etc.

It's depressing how often you encounter cats vocalizing, approaching humans in a clear cry for help. Every one of those is either lost or abandoned. I prefer to think most of them got out & got lost but... I think I know that's probably not true.

I once ran into a feral kitten that, for reasons surpassing understanding, seemed to have full acclimation to living with humans even though she clearly had never been in a human home. Sadly due to my split with my ex and what I suspect was some subsequent abuse she became less friendly when she previously loved people. Fortunately she was rehomed to my parents after my ex could no longer care for her and now she lives in comfort and with love.
