Aluminum corrosion

Is your seat post aluminum? Could be a cathodic reaction if it's is steel...

no, its aluminum as well....(although the original one was carbon)

i cleaned it up with a brass brush...looks like it's just a the paint: /a/7Prll

Technically you are correct no rust and not a big deal, but it does create an oxidized layer.

This is why it pays to talk out of your ass. I did and I was technically correct. As technical consultant, technically is good enough.

Try a bit of Coca Cola and some steel wool. If that doesn't do it probably going to have to sand it out.

It will certainly corrude and oxidize if you put mercury on aluminum.

If you are riding around mercury you may not want to ride there anymore.
