Welcome to college. During which at some point you will find yourself at midnight eating instant mashed potatoes, having hw you still need to do, and will need to be up in a few hours. You think to yourself wait why am I paying thousands of dollars a year for this?

*tens and tens of thousands of dollars

Drink lots of water, OP! Delicious as they are, it's got a fuckton of sodium that'll def catch up to you later on!

7 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

Instant potatoes are my guilty pleasure

Look at Mr. Fancy Pants over here with his actual stove! Hot plate and microwaves were all UMD had. And A.C. if you're lucky.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

TENS OF THOUSANDS PER YEAR!

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

As a 33 year old who has a Property Tax bill due at the end of the month? Split that up into 2 meals to get the best bang for your buck lol

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

This has nothing to do with college and everything to do with who you are as a person.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Rice + Old Bay.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

For the love of god folks, teach your kids how to cook actual food.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Sometimes you just get home exhausted and want to eat with minimal effort, shouldn’t be every meal but every once in a while it’s fine

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In military, 45+ years ago. 10 lbs. of potatoes for $1.00. Kraft Mac ‘n Cheese, 17¢ per box. Of course I was only making $288 per month.

7 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Ok now I’m grateful. I’m current military and make around $1700 a month, no bah

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Ironically, my $288 in 1971 equates to $1769 in todays $$$ (using a CPI calculator). Although E-1 pay was $134 - then doubled in October 71

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wow I guess they kinda hit the nail on the head inflation wise then. Still doesn’t go very far lol

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah part of the reason for all this is 4 hours later I’m now up for NROTC and a khaki inspection

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

The military isn’t for everyone. But, for some, like me it can be AWESOME. I got my career (I.T.) from those 4 years, the GI bill, etc.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Although I was ‘mature’ at 18, it helped me grow up a lot! It’s an FANTASTIC way to save money. I saved 25% for 4 years - easy to do.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That hit to hard delete this

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

As long as this isn't awful Cinderalla brand that's gross flakes get the fine powder (mmagi) stuff tastes almost fully potato but better

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As for the "why am I paying...blah, blah, blah" what degree are you paying for? That is the more important question.

7 years ago | Likes 89 Dislikes 4

Ligmaology

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Gonna get my PhD in Scrum

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

gender studies

7 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 3

Well onions dont have genders, so maybe you should have paid attention in class at least.

7 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

As an European, "paying"... LOL.

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

I mean, technically you still do. The funding just comes publicly from taxation instead.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Seriously. I had 3 coworkers in the past that I liked, but seriously hated. All 3 had their college paid for completely by their parents. 1

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

They decided to use that huge advantage to get degrees in Spanish, Art, and archeology. They then bitch about ending up in customer service2

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

And not getting promoted over people with more experience but no degree

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Instant? Dude, real mashed potatoes cost just as, if not less, to make, and it's stupid easy. Way better taste, and more healthy.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

in his defense he chose the tastiest of the the instant mash potatoes

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Mac and cheese or ramen was my go to.

7 years ago | Likes 63 Dislikes 0

Yes ramen 3 bucks a week of food lol

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ramen, whole milk, eggs, bologna sandwiches on white bread

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ramen was definitely a staple for me, was only $0.10/packet! And yogurt on sale for $0.15/yogurt.

7 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

I dislike how you type money

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 11

I don't give a shit.

7 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

I don't give a shit.

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

I agree

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 9

But we had this for only 3 dollars 50!!

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

Thanks for reminding me that I have to go and get a real degree at a real school since mine continues to spiral dn the drain cough UoPX

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I use to live off those $1 Totino's pizzas

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Garlic mashed is better

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

College is where you learn that you always have multiple things to do and not enough time to do them all. But mashed potatoes surely help.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

You're damn right they will. This guy gets it

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I even use the same brand

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's sad how real this is.. But let me impart some wisdom: Butter, milk, shredded cheese, Tony Chachere's Creole seasoning. YOU'RE WELCOME.

7 years ago | Likes 63 Dislikes 2

Spicy or mild?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It sounds like you should have just been eating mac and cheese.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A bit of minced jar garlic and an egg is even better and if you have a frying pan toss in some canned tuna and make fish cakes

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

toss in some browned ground meat and some canned veggies. Cheapo shepherds pie.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

TONY'S!!!!!

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Tony's!!!!!! Great on ed everything

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I got so excited the was ed for no reason

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Or simply try using real potatoes

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Shredded cheese, garlic, pepper, and then chop up some cheap chicken nuggets and mix in with a little bit of bbq sauce. Tastes amazing.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Butter, milk, salt and pepper is all that's needed if you do it right

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Maybe a little chives or parsley flake to fancy it up for guests.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

At that point add bacon bits and cheese for loaded mashed potatoes :P

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

IMO the Kraft Mac n Cheese does not need salt - that stuff’s loaded with salt. Pepper baby!!!

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Talking bout the mashed potatoes.mac and cheese just needs butter and milk/cream

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I lived off 1$ meals from Save-A-Lot. Also, if you want to save money in college, go to Save-A-Lot. Cheaper food with less to choose from!

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

what is a sav a lot?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah I am wondering ht too I have not heard of it I am guessing it's some kind of discount supermarket.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's a very small grocery store in the US, I've see them both in the North and South. I'm not sure if it exists outside of the US.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Metal utensil in a non stick pan gonna lead to it not being nonstick anymore, and the ingestion of said coating.

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

True, but that's not nonstick.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That's a normal metal sauce pot.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

then it’s going to make that horrific noise when the fork scratches it!

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes, yes it will. However, with the possible exception of his roommate beating him to death with the sauce pot, both the undergraduate and

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

pot will be fine.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There's always

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I’m in NROTC lol that’s why I was up so late .

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Speaking as an ex-Cav Scout,pls study https://fas.org/irp/doddir/army/fm3-25-26.pdf hard.Nothing worse/more dangerous than a 2LT w/ a map :)

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Haha I appreciate it. I’ll be on a boat most likely so maybe your protege will be spared

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

lol duh, I just saw the N, facepalm.gif lol More proof that ya ain't that smart if you go Army :)

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

a kuerig dispenses the perfect amount of hot water for a cup of noodles. happy colleging.

7 years ago | Likes 444 Dislikes 6

I've always had some asshat that has used a kuerig incorrectly will have coffee grounds forever cycle, leaving any water tainted forever

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

if the keurig works that is

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Spring for the first generation Keurig as it lasts a lot longer and use a Pur or Britta to fill it for less buildup

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm sorry but wtf, a kuerig... dude in college I could afford €0.07 noodles lol

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Kuerigs are trash disasters.

7 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 3

Not to mention the price per pound of coffee in those trash pods is almost comparable to the price of gold.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I sell them at retail. Can confirm.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

A lot of coffee companies make compostable pods now.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It really should be the law for single-use plastics, honestly.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I have a reuseable pod for mine. And I slip my tea into it so its easier for me to make. Now it always comes out perfect. (1/2)

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Agreed; the re-useable pods are GREAT and makes it very useable—but it takes time to clean, and that means like 90% of people won't do it :|

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But you are right even the guy who created the Keutig now hates that he made the pods for it. I guess it's just depends on how its used.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

What college kid has a kuerig? That's some ivy league shit

7 years ago | Likes 48 Dislikes 4

Well not like you could afford the k-cups so what else would you be using it for?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Seriously just pick up a hot water kettle at target for like 20$, or look at goodwill. They are at thrift shops all the time.

7 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Ive recently visited the ''jungle of Dunkirk'' and i've learned that these kettles are an excellent gift to a homeless person too.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The single cup ones are like $30 now and totes worth.

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

The cheapest I've seen is $80.

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I am seeing $60 now, may have been a Black Friday sale. Apologies. Still worth IMO. <3

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I have a knockoff keurig I got for $20, works fine with the cups, would still work for just the water

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

most have a computer, tv, phone, video games etc, and a $60 keurig is expensive?

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

to cook fucking instant noodles yeah it is

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

i feel like most college kids would have a keurig for coffee with the added benefit of hot water for noodles

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As a graduate student, dont worry, you can be brought lower :) btw, buy a whole potato, stab it with a fork all over, rub with oil, and

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Season with salt and pepper. 450 for an hour. It's like 5 min of work for restaurant quality baked potato. 400 for a sweet potato and add

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Brown sugar after cooking.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Don't oven bake it microwave it for a couple of minute instead toss some cheese on the open jacket when its done and serve

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Skin always comes out leathery and flavorless. Oven baking it after slathering it in oil gives you a delicious crisp skin.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But the cost to use ovens not to mention the amount of time waiting for it to preheat the cook just to cook 1/2

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

a potato (or 3 since they are very small now) isn't worth the 2 minutes to microwave and mine never come out soggy and flavorless

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

For the certificate of completion, which is statistically more valuable than what you're paying for it.

7 years ago | Likes 278 Dislikes 13

And can be revoked in florida if you dont pay back loans

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do they then cancel the loan in return?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nope

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Does this statistic only include cost or are work hours necessary to receive the certificate taken into consideration?

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Depending on the certificate. They tend to downplay the marketability of the more worthless certificates.

7 years ago | Likes 69 Dislikes 2

you're better off getting info on employability of degrees from your national labour bureau than the people selling you the degree...

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Our college tries to be honest about it by including BLS job growth and median salaries for jobs that require that degree.

We send out a survey - 6 months after graduating 99% had jobs or continued college, 98% in their field of study, ... 1/2

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

85% of students are in-state and a majority of the employers they listed having were local. 2/2

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Even if the data is less than flattering. For instance Vet Tech earn less than the median salary for all workers.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

... what if I just graduated with an English degree

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I hear mcdonalds is hiring.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I know someone with an English degree. She started as a technical writer, and is now a junior project manager, still in her 20's.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Do they give you a diploma for that or a barista's apron? Asking for a friend.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

If you're in the states and have any interest in working in tech, check out https://www.epic.com/. They don't care what your major is. 1/2

Publishing industry?

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I've been looking into it but it's hard to get started with that

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Editing is my dream but I have no idea how to get into it

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you made above a 3.5, your options are teaching, more school, Technical writing, or shitty copywriting. Degrees are a good way (1)

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Jokes on me, I barely managed 3.0. But yeah I'm working on the find a job, any job part so I can have more time to apply to something I like

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

of standing out if you have other skills when they're not STEM ones. I wouldn't have my job today if I didn't have my degree and it does(2)

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

literally nothing with my job. History Undergrad and now I work as a Game Dev, who would have guessed I'd swap industries like that (3)

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

NOTE: It did take me like...3 years to get this job, a sad reality of the job market right now, so find something you can do right now (4)
