I don't get how 20-year-olds spend so much time alone. They're generally in college, surrounded by roommates, classmates, faculty, etc.

Do dogs count as friends?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Who da fk has 8 hours to spend with their friends

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I assume the bottom axes are Age (years)? Would be useful to have some kind of label, or clue.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm no American but... well...

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

At each age, shouldn't the hours add up to 24?

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

They are averages, there should be slight variance and it doesn't count sleep, which varies from 4-9 hours.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Seems right. I enjoy being alone. A bit too much i think sometimes.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Partner confused me when it dropped at the end and then I realized it's cause they died and now I'm sad

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thank god! Oh, that's not the right reaction is it?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I love spending my time with Alone.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So, based on my current alone time....I'm ahead the curve?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You expect me to believe 85 year olds spend an hour a day with their PARENTS on average?

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Hopefully. Since the category is parents, siblings, or family. Someone visited my G-ma every day after G-pa died. RIP G-ma & G-pa.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Okay I doubt that a bunch of teenagers don't even spend half an hour a day with a partner. I'm calling bullshit on this

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sauce is really important with graphs. Could be made up.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That's pretty accurate. Excpet I never see my family, I work at home, have no children and no partner. Wow, thats depressing.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Waking hours or total hours?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

A story of an ageing, lonely population. Social isolation is real, folks.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I spend like 2-3 hours with friends every other day and the rest of it alone. I telecommute. Holy dogshit.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I didn't know being a boyfriend/girlfriend was a full time job. I'm only doing it part-time

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I find lack of labeling the x axis verry irritating.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

After years of being around crazy family, whiney kids, jerk coworkers, needling spouses and grouchy parents, some people like some peace!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

can.not.wait.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This would probably make more sense to me if the said what the axis's are.

8 years ago | Likes 140 Dislikes 16

It's right there on the graph?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It says total hours on the y axis but nothing on the x axis.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

X - age, Y - hours per day spent

8 years ago | Likes 61 Dislikes 0

As a fifteen year old I spent many hours with my children

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not being funny, but it's implicit

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

While it doesn't say explicitly that X is age, it actually does say "Hours per day" by the Y. But they formatted it so weird that at...

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

...first glance I thought they were revealing an average of 8 hours per day for each of the left columns.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well I'm glad I'm not alone. ...oh wait

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Put some confidence intervals on dat bitch n00b

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

AND WHAT ABOUT PETS 24 HOURS A DAY

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well, that got sad fast.

8 years ago | Likes 417 Dislikes 4

They missed the category for 'Cats'.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's a more complicated graph as you can have multiple cats. So you can actually have more then 24 cat/hours per day.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Im literally the coolest guy i know, why wouldnt i wanna spend as much time as possible with me?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You say sad, I say encouraging.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

that's life

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Weird, it gave me something to look forward to.

8 years ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 0

Two types of people, I suppose. :-)

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Well, yes. They're called "extroverts" and "introverts," respectively.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I was an extrovert in my youth as I am a musician, but the more I see of people the less I want to be around them.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well, yes.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

how are people spending less than 5 hours a day on average with coworkers

8 years ago | Likes 202 Dislikes 4

Half of Americans don't work #triggered

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I spend way less than that. I only work outside my office when a client fails to show.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I have my own office...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That (if I'm correct; don't quote me) would only be the case if hours only came in solid integers, and weren't an abstract.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Must be the lucky ones who don't have constant pointless meetings

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Even working 40 hr weeks, you average to 5.7 hrs/day. Add in outliers like stay at home moms and the unemployed, and it's easy.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I work 37.5 hours per week. Divided by 7 that's about 5 hours and twenty minutes. There are plenty of people on part time contracts too.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Work from home/remotely.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Average among everyone, indicates to me about 60% of polled people work part time or not at all.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

There's a fair amount of time I'm sitting in my office doing work with headphones. I wouldn't really count that as engaging with coworkers.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

unemployed are included as well?

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Work from home

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

To be fair, I only really interact with co workers at lunch. And the occasional hour meeting. So like 2 hours a day. The rest I'm working.

Do serial killers count as alone after they killed or does the corpse count as a person?

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

If a killer kills a killer it counts

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Y'all misunderstood. Im looking for INSTRUCTIONS.

8 years ago | Likes 69 Dislikes 1

I had a job as a field service tech where I wouldn't see any of my coworkers for months at a time.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Dial-in to meetings instead of attending, work remotely, etc.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My job involves going to different sites, I'm alone most days and see coworkers for like 15 minutes most some mornings

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I work as a software developer. All the kids in my office roll in around 11. I have a family I want to be with so I come in aroun 6 leave @2

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I work 9-5. NO ONE does this anymore.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm lucky to have my manager. It has worked very well for me.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Can I have dis?

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Many software houses do this. There is usually an hour a day of mandatory attendance (for meetings), but other than that, you're in control.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

This is a good example of when NOT to use a line graph.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 3

This is fine. A bar graph would have just added binning issues.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This adds binning issues as well, the viewer has no idea what the bin size is and interprets it as variance within groups.
