3D printers - a solution looking for a problem in most cases - especially home versions

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This is absolutely terrifying.

12 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

All the people look like you just pulled them out of a teen sports themed GTA3 mod.

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

3d printing scares the shit out of me

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I find this... creepy.

12 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Yet another creepy thing for serial killers to collect of their victims. Photos are a thing of the past.

12 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

This would be a hilarious episode of CSI hmm killed in the 3d printer scanning room. Oh look we can just print out a 3d image of the killer

12 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Twist: They come to life at night.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Two questions for an asian dude here: 1) Does it work on nudes? 2) Can you selectively enlarge certain parts?

12 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Yes and yes. However scans have much more trash points, compared to traditional modelling, so it takes longer.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do you do penis molds?

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

but does it blend?

12 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Man, this joke is still a thing? Or did I wake up in a reverse coma and end up in 2008?

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I thought you said comma, I was confused.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You can't fool me, that's a shrinking machine.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No offense but I think you've gotten that football slightly wrong.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Creepy as fuck.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Just for curiosity, how much do these prints cost?

12 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

$249 and up according to reddit OP.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And the banana? We need a scale

12 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

This must be top comment. never was a banana for scale more needed.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

6 inches or less. Look at the last pic, you can see their tiny scale.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Is it cheaper to make Warhammer 40k Models this way?

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I like the way you think!

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is a fucking awesome idea

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I wanted to make them too, but, printers weren't cheap enough for me ;( But then again, warhammer isn't cheap enough

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What about personalized Academy Awards?

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

this is the creepiest thing ever

12 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

+1 for "scanning igloo"

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If you have to ask how much money for one, you can't afford it.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Maybe I'm just bad with math.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You should get pre-set body scans of pop culture stuff (like stormtrooper armor) in different poses. Then add the clients head onto that!

12 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Wonka's been shrinking people down for decades, so... yea

12 years ago | Likes 105 Dislikes 3

Ok I want that wedding cake topper when I get married. That's too awesome!

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

price?

12 years ago | Likes 95 Dislikes 0

$249 and up, according to Reddit OP.

12 years ago | Likes 47 Dislikes 1

I imagine it's a lot

As am I. :) don't mind me

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I want this. now. so. very. badly.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Do people come out alive?

12 years ago | Likes 63 Dislikes 2

That's why you get the little memento at the end: to remember them by.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well... They live a half life.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not since the accident :(

12 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

And now I'm thinking about House of Wax. That movie scared me :(

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Most do!

12 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

"most"

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Has science gone too far?

12 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 4

Yes.

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Not far enough.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not far enough.

12 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Not far enough, friend. Not far enough.

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The wedding toppers alone are a GOLDEN business model.

12 years ago | Likes 538 Dislikes 1

^This. You have to advertise this to wedding companies and cake businesses. Provide free samples that can be displayed.

12 years ago | Likes 89 Dislikes 0

Agreed! If I had money I would definitely try to invest.

12 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

As are the kid sport statuettes. Parents eat that shit up.

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Oh yeah, that too, but that's a totally separate target group. Big change in marketing model.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The Wall Street Journal science writer predicted that 100 years from now we'll clone mini humans as talking dancing cake toppers.

That sounds like a golden idea for a quirky indie rom-com

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That's an awesome idea!

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

Or in 100 years cloning will become so normalized and trivial that it's no big deal to do that.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

3D printed stuff is generally not food-safe, and the powder and dye used in this probably has odd chemical properties too.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The reason 3D printed stuff isn't food-safe is because of tiny holes in the surface where bacteria can hide.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So you place them on a base that is. There could even be options to make that base decorative. That's not an impediment to their use.

12 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Hadn't thought of that. I've been looking into printing food-safe stuff for different uses.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Food safe would of course be ideal, but I'm not familiar with most 3D printing media's MSDS info. IDK how good/bad existing stuff is.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I mostly use FDM printers, using plastic filament. Most of it is unsuitable, but food-safe stuff should be available. Pores still problem.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And print them in sugar.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Depends on the capabilities of the machine, I'd think, most extruders work with HIGH temps, which would burn sugar.

I stand corrected! Though I think this requires a specialized setup, not just any old 3D printer.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wasn't there a post about 3D printed cereal like yesterday? If that is a thing this could be a thing too :)

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Although I think human shapes might be more complex but in a long term plan they could eventually do it :)

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Only a matter of time before you're making sex toys for couples.

12 years ago | Likes 47 Dislikes 3

Or singles...

12 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

Or Ogries.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Frankly, I're love a naked posable action figure of my partner.

12 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

Wow, im very sure there is a market for that! Buy one of those machenes, and partner up with me. We will make millions

Reddit OP actually stated that a few people have asked, but they can't because of the venue's location.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

"Guys wait, I don't have an erection yet...."

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

now the computers are able to scan and replicate humans? do you want skynet? cause this is how we get skynet.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

it's the new way to send nudes. forget 2D dick pics.

12 years ago | Likes 46 Dislikes 2

I don't know what you're talking about "where do you keep that". I've kept a compact laser deluxe... well you don't want to know!

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Came back to upvote

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Have you tried keeping it in your coin purse?

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Keep it classy, San Diego!

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

sounds like a perfect v-day gift for the bf... do let us know if you do neekid scans.

12 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

OP is in reddit.

12 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

If he cares enough, he will come see us :D

12 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

You must be fun at parties.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I am actually. I usually bring the acid and coke.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

If you guys accept credit cards, I can keep it in my butt.

12 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Only if it shows on the 3D model.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

From Reddit:

12 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

I would most certainly pay $550 for a 12" naked me.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

YET, thay can't offer that option YET : >

12 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Do you think they can selectively enlarge certain parts?

12 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

me too i'd like bigger eyes

12 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

upvoting for this comment +1

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

They shrink your whole body down, your penis will still be proportionally tiny.

12 years ago | Likes 84 Dislikes 1

Yeah, but what happens to it after the 3D scan?

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You mean "proportionally large"

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That was mean :'(

12 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I think that if they didn't shrink it down, you could see it on the model.

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Or you could say, "give me the Ron Jeremy package....literally!"

12 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Short, greasy and hairy.

12 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Oh, and a MASSIVE donger.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Can you keep a chubber going for 5 minutes?

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The scan takes seconds, they say.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh wow, you're right. I read it as 5 minutes. I'd totally get that done then. Show it to the ladies at a bar. See who's interested.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

300 seconds...?

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm actually curious to know this. I mean...it'd be kinda cool to have a lil' naked me.

12 years ago | Likes 212 Dislikes 0

too bad i live in canada

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Maybe don't say little and naked in the same sentence

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Here is OP's answer from reddit TL;DR Not yet.

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The future of sexting will be here as soon as we can get a 3D printer in our phones..

12 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I would pay for this

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I´ll use that as a chatup line... "Hey baby, wanna see a lil´ naked me?"

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"it'd be kinda cool to have a lil' naked me" That's how you know technology has come too far

12 years ago | Likes 155 Dislikes 2

As long as we can't have full size naked and horny living me... for scientific purpose... then science hasn't got too far. Trust me.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Hahah silly wolf15, there is no such thing as "come" too far. Just ask porn!

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You could ask girls to come to your house, to see your lil' naked you.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Say hello to my little friend! Wait no, that came out wrong, I meant the 6" little friend. WAIT!!!! And I'm alone :(

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

3D scanners don't have resolution down to that level.
