The City, old version

In May of 2016, I made a post about my Minecraft project, consisting of a city built in Survival Mode around a naturally-generated village.

I kept working on some neighborhoods throughout the summer, and I'm still planning to make a little video in the future where I'll probably be smoothly cruising around the city's boulevards and avenues, capturing some vantage points and buildings of interest.

But now is time for a little update! Can you spot the differences between these uNmINeD screenshots?

The City, September 2016

(Hint for the lazier of you guys : look mostly to the West)

Ok, and a lil' cheap GIF for the laziest!

Cheap GIF for the laziest

Very bad GIF, sorry! See here for the non-cancerous version (thanks to FunkyH) : http://imgur.com/YGomygn

Aaaaaaaand a few screenshots of what's new!

The West rises!

An overview of the new western district, with brand new skyscrapers looming over more traditional buildings (church and museum). The Colossus stands in the background, stil looking at Oldtown and Downtown (not visible from that point).

Welcome to Authoritarianland

Behind the modern Agora district now blooms a neighborhood of massive stone buildings, large avenues and monuments, built around a huge fountain. Some of these constructions are only a few weeks old, or even a few days old! Expanding this area is my main goal at the moment.

What's new in the North

This is part of a long-term plan to expand the City north of the Parliament, as I wanted to do since forever. It's a very mineral and modern neighborhood, very different from Oldtown.

A glimpse of the future

I really enjoyed working on that building!

Postcard from the City!

I have fun with shaders sometimes, altough they make the game run very badly (10 fps if I'm lucky). Here are some spots I already showed you in the past, because you guys have earned it.

Hssssssssssssssssssss boom... Welp, time to start a new world, I guess.

@LeTravailleur that gif was amazing. 0,1 sec on the first frame and 2 sec on the second. I can really see whats going on. :p

Can we download it? Also, protip: make a subway.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The City is very walkable. There is a subway (three lines, only one has been completed), but its purpose is very limited... Free Cobble! :D

Any1 familiar with project Zearth?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Have you tried Mr Meeps shaders? I get very little frame rate impact, and they still look good.

How you doin'?

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

@OP is the whole thing populated by squidwards or just the village?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But I bet the villagers just cluster in one corner of it.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

This is the Minecraft stuff we are OK with.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

+1 for survival. Just not as impressive otherwise.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, in a way the City kept a scale and feeling similar to a NPC village, so it's way smaller than those huge projects some people do!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Now that's how you do a minecraft post. That looks fantastic @OP and makes me want to fire up mine again.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Now you gotta turn the mines under the city into catacombs. Complete with neatly stacked skulls

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

All on survival! Thats a crazy amount of time to dedicate

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Imagine the resources you'd need to collect... All the processing and crafting, and then clearing all the needed space...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wow, this is really cool! Great work, @OP

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Thanks!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

@OP is it safe to assume that this was all done in creative mode? Because otherwise I would feel even more inferior to you...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

About 99,8% of it is Survival. The Agora pavement + one midrise were done in Creative mode, and I immediately gave up! It wasn't fun ;)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is really freaking cool man

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

@OP Any chance of you uploading the map in it's current state for download?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Maybe soon! Many people are asking for a link, but first I need to complete some unfinished stuff :)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do let me know if you upload it, I don't play much anymore but I love seeing quality maps

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

When the Fuck did Minecraft turn into this? Back in my day it was hitting trees with your hand and building mountain-dicks out of gold.

9 years ago | Likes 138 Dislikes 3

But minecraft started as a creative building game

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I like both but now you can get mending enchantment so your gear lasts forever

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Then it got overrun by 12 year olds

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 17

But fish lords is saying it got/looks better, so you're implying the 12 year olds vastly improved the game?

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Yes.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

interesting hypothesis

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It's been like this for a looooong time. lol.

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

My day was a looooong time ago.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

When I used to own/run a top tekkit server we had things like this built all the time as it was a RP server.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It came out like six years ago, right?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well, long in Minecraft time anyway.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The kids grew up and became creative

9 years ago | Likes 53 Dislikes 0

The kids grew up and now they don't go to school or work and have no social life.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Creative? I think the gold dick is more creative than a city.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Haha, it's funny cause it only came out 6 years ago.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

You are telling me the friday song is older than minecraft?!!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Wow, it feels like its been at least 10

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Still, a 21 yr old is a lot less of a kid than a 15 yr old.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

True, true...
