I made math things...

Aug 10, 2019 6:39 PM

I’ve been learning to machine things. This month a made some cool math stuff. These are Möbius strips made out of copper, stainless steel, and brass.

I made a bracelet from a Möbius strip.

These are Meissener Tetrahedrons. They are classified as a solid of constant width. You can place a flat board above them and roll them around like you would with spheres. They’re pretty neat.

These are Reuleaux Cones made from a 3D rotation of a Reuleaux triangle. They also are solids of constant width.

Here’s a video of the solids of constant width rolling around.

These are Steinmetz solid bi-cylinders. They are the intersection of 2 perpendicular cylinders, which makes them only able to roll side to side and front to back.

I plan on making more of these shapes in different sizes like the 3D prints I made above.
Thanks for checking my stuff out!

Congrats to the cylinders for coming out as bi

Solids of constant width seems to pair nicely with rodents of unusual sizes

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

And yet today I multiplied 2 by 4 and yelled 6.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I wish I could upvote this 1x2. There I mathed. Love ‘em.

#1 would make for some ultra dank Olympic medals my dude

That's some sexy math things..

I’m still trying to imagine the intersection of two perpendicular cylinders in my head and it’s driving me nuts!

My autistic 12 year old son would go nuts for these. Do you have a shop? He literally carries a calculator everywhere, since he was 4.

6 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

Il have 1 of each in stainless steel please. Tell me your price

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

dood this is the coolest thing since the Klein bottle

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Klein bottles are awesome, definitely impossible to machine out of a single piece of metal.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I...I have to have möbius jewelry.

Burn the witch!

sure, math can explain some things, but there’s NO WAY that chair top is big enough for that pupper, try explaining THAT with math!

You can't be so interesting, it is illegal. +1

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I will make it legal

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Oh, it is ok then.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Those first ones are Ter'angreal. You cannot convince me otherwise.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

My thought exactly

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've heard that if you put one of those rings on you can control your dreams

6 years ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 0

I used to be able to control my dreams when I was a kid; I would kill to be able to do it now

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Instructions unclear, penis swollen, dreams scary.

Meissener Tetrahedrons* excuse me

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Is that a Wheel of Time reference?

6 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

That was my first thought, need one that is brown with red and green specks

#1 why did the chicken cross the Mobius strip? To get to the same side!

6 years ago | Likes 110 Dislikes 2

You can say that again, but you don't have to.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That was funnier then the first joke

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

@op how much does one of those bracelets cost?

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Extremely fair pricing

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I mainly do this as a hobby, any money I make from this goes to tools and materials to build and make more cool stuff!

"Worlds first", bold claim there

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 4

This comes across as lazy, fake skepticism. “I don’t have anything to say, but I’m calling bullshit with literally nothing to back it up.”

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Youre correct sir. But its just a claim that Its a claim thats pretty hard to completely vet out.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It’s super easy to remain silent on a subject you know nothing about. Watch, as I explain string theory:

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

You really think someone else in the world has CNC machined a bi cylinder out of 4 different metals?

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

no idea, but going to be hard to prove wrong or right.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I actually have my own website and I launch Kickstarters to afford making new shapes each month. Here’s the link:

Dot

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Y'all need a website so I can buy a full set of these things at once.

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

You can buy the full set of them on my Kickstarter right now! If you have questions on how to do that, let me know!

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Weird. Your website doesn’t appear to be on your bio

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Thanks for the heads up, I didn’t expect this much interest lol. I just added it to my bio

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Did you hand machine those or cnc. If you did it by hand you HAVE TO tell me how because i would have no idea where to start :D

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Lol I used a CNC mill, I’m not that talented haha

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ok haha. One more question though 3 or 5 axies? (idk how to spell :D)

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I used a 3 axis mill but 5 axis would definitely be preferred, much more flexibility with a 5 axis mill

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What machine do you have?

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I actually use my local maker space’s equipment. It has an EMCO mill

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Do you have links to the 3d print files?

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I actually created the files myself using Solidworks

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

But do you have a link to them?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

But do you have a link to them?

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I can post them to a public google drive for any one who wants them!

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Just fucking post the link, OP.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

One Google link please! These are awesome!

I would love to see a mix of several types used at once.

6 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

My brain will shift into neutral if that happens.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I’ll have to do that for my next video!

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I will, and I’ll make love to them on our wedding night, it’s gonna be perfect

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

If you’re interested in any let me know!

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Is there a way to buy them?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

Id like to get into machining in just 3D printing for now

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I am interested. What is the cost of these?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I am interested. But I live in Norway

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I ship internationally!

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How much in total to Norway?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What are you selling them for?

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Money..

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Hey, that's a pretty good reason!

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I sell them so I can afford the tools and equipment to make even more cool stuff!

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I mean, touche, but I was actually asking HOW MUCH you sell them for. :D
