F that. Know your worth and don't let them try to back you into a corner about an offer because they think you're desperate.

When a Cheney of all people call you a “useful idiot”, you done fucked up, now!

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If I made $11 less than I make now I would be in the $6 an hour range oof.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fuuckin hate the "we will tell you how much the job pays at the end of the process" bullshit

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Did you laugh at them?

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Counter offer mate. You're quite happy where you are now. It would take x amount to get you to budge.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I got a job offer like that. When I turned them down they were “upset I wasted their time”. I pointed out they were the ones wasting time.

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I took a job 17$ less than my last. I was really bummed but the other perks are so worth the change.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Some employees here in Denmark give 8% pension, 40h/week and only 5week vacation. Others give 17%, 37/w, 6w. The 8/17% is easy to adjust for

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Laugh in their faces and tell them "It's not 2008 any more."

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Did you tell them that you don't even roll out of bed for anything less than what you make now?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Counter offer with an $11 per hour raise to what you make now and tell them "That's my final offer".

4 years ago | Likes 178 Dislikes 1

Currently looking for new work. Asking 500more for 10% less hours. If they really want me thell pay.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

110% this.

4 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

I was once told that these were just grounds for negotiating the salary. But im not sure because i have yet to get an interview.

4 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Not in my experience, if they come in much lower than expected it usually means it's not going to happen.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Sound about right. Even just state to state rate differences are bad

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you agree don't think it's their final offer.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

11$*40hrs/week*52weeks per year 22,880.00$. It makes a difference.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

tell them their days on this earth are numbered while plucking out one of your own eyes

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have been getting weekly job offers over the last 18 months, all with a 20% to 30% pay cut.

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I tell them that, right up front, but they just keep explaining what a great opportunity it is.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Don't settle for less than you are worth. They can afford to pay you they just don't want to. Stand your ground.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But JUST THINK of the exposure!!! /s

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

congratz on making enough money that you can be paid 11$ less and it to be legal i guess XD

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, job pays well, but corporate mentality is all about maximum production w/ minimum staff to cook the books for shareholders.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm an experienced night Auditor and can't find a new position for anything over than minimum wage. The current job market HURTS.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I was offered a job with worse Healthcare and less money. Don't ask for 10+ yrs experience to pay entry level.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So... $22,000 LESS per year? Did you laugh at them?

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Was nice about it, but instantly said no thanks.

4 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I'd say an $11/hr pay cut doesn't deserve "nice".

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

I make 11 an hour ...

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That’s a nope on that good buddy. They don’t know their employees worth and would probably treat you like crap.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My job is giving 7-8% raises this year just to keep people here. It's a mass exodus everywhere. I do corporate AV for a large hotel.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I started out with 11$/hour and now I make 13$/hour after 4 years. It will take time

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

you lost money

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Explain

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I have an interview Monday and I suspect the pay is going to be about 7-10k less a year than I currently make. Gonna have to say "no thanks"

4 years ago | Likes 61 Dislikes 1

I took a $40K pay cut to get my foot in the door. Now back to normal levels after 2 years. QoL majorly improved.

4 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

My wife told last interviewer, negotiations start at x. First offer was x-20k. They later claimed “ohh we thought that was your goal”

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You may be a stronger candidates than others. Stick by your expectations, you will either be beyond what their budget is or.....

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

....they will have to make an internal business case to take you on because you're awesome. Depends on the type of business though

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah I was looking elsewhere but with jobs the way they are I'd take the same. Gonna try to suffer the microaggressions and bullshit for now

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You havent discussed comp before getting this far in? I start with comp first and if they don't want to talk about it, its because they >>

4 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 1

know its not competitive. At the very least if its a job I really want, I tell them my expected range up front and asked them if it makes >>

4 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

sense for us to continue. //

4 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Anything less is just wasting everyone's time

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Not really, there is value in making sure your interview skills are staying sharp.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'd be willing to take a pay cut if other things were better, like insurance, work travel, job/role stability, etc.

4 years ago | Likes 354 Dislikes 14

Agreed less stress is reverb sometimes a nice trade off.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

My wife took a job paying $10k/yr less, the benefits are better and she brings home more now with bumping up her 401(k) contributions

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

If I can work from home, that would be an extra hour a day in my pocket... that's a full day every two weeks...

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Adds up even more if you consider things like transportation $$ saved, meal $$ saved, laundry $$ saved. Depends on your job and status quo.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yep; 60 miles a day...

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As a +55yo I took pay cut for less stressful job at diff company. Ended up w under 35yo's who hated me the minute I arrived. Pure hell.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thats my exact situation. Taking a $25k/yr paycut to work somewhere WAY better for me.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I get paid literally a third of what I used to and couldn't care less because it's so much fun. (Went from industry to grad research)

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Relying on your job for health insurance is still a fucking crazy idea to me. --Aussie.

4 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

I agree. I hate it.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

NO

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Daycare! I would leave my job for 10 less an hour if the job had on-site daycare

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Probably a savings actually lol

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Seven months ago I took a near $30K/yr pay cut. Went from 75+ hrs/wk with shit insurance to City job with amazing retirement.

4 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

But did you actually take a cut in $/HR, or did you just get a job working less hours with better benefits?

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

New job has better hourly wage (it's a salaried position) for sure.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ya I'm taking at least a $50k pay cut to work 10-20 hrs less a week

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Working 80 hours is like having 2 jobs. 30k a year for 40 extra hours a week is not a massive paycut. congrats on life :)

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Best decision ever. Now have time with family and newborn son. Haven't looked back.

4 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

I switched cities a few years ago. Took a 33% pay cut and I'm still not back up where i was at, but it was worth it to get out

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Good for you!! The important things in life. :)

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This. I took a 2k paycut for the 1st year because better QoL and a higher earning ceiling. Worth it to me.

4 years ago | Likes 45 Dislikes 3

I now refused to compromise. I'm in a position where employers are fighting. So today I accepted an offer for 30k more, Twice the vacation

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

2) better insurance, WFH, bonuses, etc

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

$11/hr cut is almost $23K/yr. That's a huge loss, unless the pay is question is massive

4 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 1

Sometimes medical costs alone can make that worth it. Especially seeing how much insulin is.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yah but some benefits are also huge, like how much vaca/pto you get. Whether or not you can WFH, whether or not insurance is fully paid, etc

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Hell, even if all other things are equal, working for a shady startup company vs. well established stable company is a huge factor.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Pay rate doesn't mean anything if company goes under a month after you start. Or starts asking you to do questionable things..

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

for $11/hr those things better be fucking amazing

4 years ago | Likes 313 Dislikes 0

22k/yr buys a lot of things

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I mean it might be ok if the cut was from 100 dollars per hour. And they're still getting 89 an hour

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

On average I'd guess it would be fine all the way down to 45-50 or so.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

At that rate it’s a senior position with a lot of stress and responsibility. I will not accept even -1$ less! Company ride you like a horse.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I couldn't live off of 11 an hour anymore.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

$11 *less.* OP is losing a part-time worker's paycheck.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Oh yeah I missed that qualifier lol

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah single dad with 2 kids...we would all die

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I feel you dude. My wife and I are having our third this year (unplanned, and literally while u was researching vasectomies with my -/

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Insurance). We are hitting a real lean week this week. Fortunately I finally talked her into letting me start a pantry this year, so I -/

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Would actually be losing benefits from 20 years at the previous place. Applied looking for relief from endless forced overtime

4 years ago | Likes 112 Dislikes 0

Hope your counter offer goes somewhere, but it sounds like you're both really far apart. ?

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Have you factored in the over time into the hourly salary. Lots of positions pay less when you consider that.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That sounds like a horrible deal ngl

4 years ago | Likes 68 Dislikes 0

Oh. You work for FedEx?

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

What kind of work you into?

4 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Pharmaceuticals, low level management. Offer was from fabrication place that has contracts with NFL, MLB

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I hear you, you need a change. Just not at that cost. You might end up doing overtime and getting stressed for less money anyway!

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just did the same last year. Took a $8/pay cut plus benefits are higher but now I work 4 10’s instead of 6-7 10-12’s. If you can afford it….

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh it's a different company?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well companies don't always negotiate wage from other businesses immediately. You will have to do that yourself and just reject cur offer

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Depending on country/state, type of work, they likely can’t fire you for refusing overtime. Look up your local laws and only communicate>

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Through texts and emails. If they fire you in person, pull out your phone immediately and record. Even “at will” states won’t allow>

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You can be charged in pa for recording audio of a conversation without permission.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Them to fire you without providing UI benefits for refusing overtime.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Would u need to work OT with an $11 pay cut?

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Without OP choosing to make up for the 11$ with OT …. You don’t know it’s all rosy at the interview. They might still ask him for overtime.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I can't follow your question.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They're asking if, making 11 less per hour, that OT would now be needed for OP to survive

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Could have made ends meet with a $5 cut, but to do so with their offer, I would have to drain my retirement savings to pay off some debt.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

With a 40 hour week I mean.
