Behind neck lat pulldown or press are contraindicated. Causes injuries like bursitis, shoulder impingement, and labrum tears.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

as a xenomorph i find this offensive

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

as an animorph - me too

Is there one for women?

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

About first one: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Somatotype_and_constitutional_psychology TL;DR It's quackery from 50'.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

"Associating body types with human temperament types" quackery. However Heath-Carter and Sheldon somatotyping is still used today.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The 90s called. They want their posters back.

11 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I say shit like this to people every day, have a fake internet point

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

TITAAAAAAAAANS!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My body type is really more Snorlax

but what about us xenomorphs?

*See Xenomorph.* My reaction:

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

and animorphs

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

3/15 of these provide any information at all. Why do people upvote things they can't even read?

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Favorite for later then forget. Thanks!

11 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 5

You can read that?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well, no. I was going to print it out for ants so they can become the size little ponies.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

... So... who's with me in saying: Fuck Mesomorphs?

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Pretty sure they already get laid the most.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

... You make me sad.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

No female charts? I think I'm the mesomorph type. Because cardio always works for me. Im also broad as fuck.

11 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 5

Those "types" are bullshit. Ignore the first image.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just ignore the charts. It's all bullshit

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Half of these have no zoom, and are thus useless.

11 years ago | Likes 361 Dislikes 2

Wrong. Screenshot then zoom in if your blind. As a personal trainer this post is epic.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

Yeah, I opened in new tab and then zoom in. Some of them just didn't have the resolution.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm just gonna reverse Google image search most of them to find higher resolutions XD

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

don't bother.

Somatotypes are bullshit, don't pay attention to them. Make a goal and work your ass off for it.

11 years ago | Likes 166 Dislikes 9

They have direct correlation towards hormonal responses&metabolc effect in the body.Thyroid, metabolism, insulin response, nervous system etc

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Love when they say lean muscle. Muscle is muscle there is no lean or fat muscle

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Look at pictures of starving people and they all look the same. Somatotypes are bull.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Can someone who actually knows their shit, please, for the love of God, make a post thats filled with factual information!!!!!! Anyone!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Somatypes play a large role in achieving your goals, and yes hard work will overcome this, but its stupid to say they're bullshit

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

If you're gonna base your lifting on pictures from the interwebs, you're gonna have a bad time.

All you need in life is a squat rack

11 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 0

Squats are incredibly overrated. There, I said it.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 6

Also maybe an adjustable flat bench.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You mean a curl station, right?

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Everything becomes a curl station.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Even nothing becomes a curl station.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Even nothing becomes a curl station.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Squats, bench, deadlifts, pullups, and dips. Get jacked

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

hope you like having no biceps/deltoids/abs

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

I dunno, my deltoids and biceps are probably two of my more defined muscle groups. I did forget to say ab exercises though.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

with all due respect, you are wrong on all three accounts. You get a lot of biceps for pullups, delts in bench and dips, and 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

abs are used a lot in deadlifts and squats to support your core. 2/2

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

if you're getting biceps in pullups then you aren't getting your lats enough. Lateral/rear deltoids aren't worked at all in bench. 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

squats and deads will barely work the rectus abdominus, or six pack muscle.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Very few leg workouts. Friends don't let friends skip leg day

11 years ago | Likes 256 Dislikes 8

My legs are big enough. I run and incline walk, works wonders.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

OP's not your friend.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Some people should skip leg day. If you've got a massive (muscular) butt and thighs despite being sedentary, you satisfy this category.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

Ok. So I've gotten to where I can grow valve muscles all you have to do is. Do 50-100 valve raises a day. But when you are tip toeing. Hold

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

For two seconds for every rep.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There is only chest day and rest day, and there are no rest days.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There's squats and deadlifts, and powercleans, and goodmornings, sorta. Great to get someone started. No reason for newbies to get ADD.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You really dont need that many, i feel as though it should have included straight legged deadlift but other than that it seems fine.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Squat till you puke

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Squats+Deadlifts totally enough for most people.

11 years ago | Likes 57 Dislikes 0

Personally, Deadlift > Squat anyday

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

unless, you know, you actually want to isolate... any muscle in your legs... at all

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

It's good to supplement these with a few isolation exercises after you've competed your sets though

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

For a beginner, quite useless and only time/energy consuming.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Somatypes (mesomorph, ectomorph, etc) is a discredited theory. Train for your goals instead.

11 years ago | Likes 1443 Dislikes 17

Sauce

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Cant say if this is actual science but mesomorph applies to me exactly. Ive never actually trained but i do have a lot of muscle mass

The pictures also seem to assume that the entire populus can be divided into She-Hulk, Regular Hulk, and Andre the Giant

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Thank you!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I approve this message. (Username relevant)

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes it's discredited with regards to your psychology. Not your physiology. I'm pretty sure that part is still relevant.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

I was about to answer (with no knowledge and sheer logic). So, thank you.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah that part confused me. I have a wide frame and good genetic potential for growth but I'm a hard-gainer and been skinny all my life.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I read that and my bull-crap-ometer went off

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Same thing for people saying they have slow or fast metabolisms. There's variance, but it is minor for a given height/weight/sex/age

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm glad this comment has done well, this is the first thing I thought of.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

DAMMIT I MISSPELLED IT IT'S SOMATOTYPES UGGGGHHHH

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Look at halfthor bjornson before and after. Its insane!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Steroids and hard work produce amazing results

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

is muscle fiber length different for each person. In xc and track, people seemed to be naturally either sprinters or distance.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah I'm getting tired of seeing that too honestly.

11 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 3

Yes. This.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Well, I definitely look more like the ectomorph, but I have broad shoulders. And gain muscle easily. Yet can't put on weight.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

...Animorph.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

oh hell yeah

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's not just three types. It's a spectrum, endo/ectomorph being the extremes and mesomorph (as in meso = mixed) somewhere in the middle.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Yea maybe I wanna gain fat who knows

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

People should realize you can possess traits of any somatotypes, I'm mostly ectomorphic but also have Mesomorphic traits. Its not cut & dry

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Are you talking about Sheldon's original psychology theory, associating body types with temperament, or the bodybuilding variant?

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

This.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

I fit perfectly into the mesomorph category. I take it more as a generalization than cut-and-dry guidelines

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Perhaps it is on metabolism, but in general it groups genetic potential for muscle and bone. (1) http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/6493020

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

It is actually a spectrum of genetic potential, but it often groups people into 3 types. Its not to say you can't be in-between etc.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Indeed. And yet ectomorph has always described me perfectly.

11 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 1

Yeah seriously. I have never gained weight and my metabolism is practically on steroids. And I have lean muscle. Ectomorph 4 lyfe.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I know what you mean. Endomorph sounds like an accurate description of me

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ah yes, the gains fat easily, height doesn't matter, fat never fully comes off, and muscle mass only pushes fat out, to make you look fatter

11 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

(Hint: that's me)

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

I'm 5'8", 270 lbs... 20% BF. can confirm bearmode is a thing: http://imgur.com/zOS5Zul

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm not quite that extreme. But yes.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No offense, but I doubt the "fat never fully comes off". As far as I've been taught anyone can lose weight with diet and exercise.

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

None taken, but. Trust. Even when I was doing varsity baseball workouts and jv football workouts, I still had that little pudge in the core

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Sorry for the billion responses. Also more muscular people should have more fat as a reserve because of their high metabolism. So their (1/2)

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Oh cool, that explains why I seem to fit into fucking all of them a little bit

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm right there with ya.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What if my goal is to nip in the sides of my waist? I'm thinking I might just have a square body.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Back in 06 they were still teaching this when I was a kinesiology major. Lol

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Freshman in uni and we're still learning about this (exercise science)

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm pretty sure that's because the physiological part is still relevant. Somatotypes said that your mental state was in a direct (1/2)

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

relationship with your body type. That theory has been debunked. But the concept of different body types having different traits still makes

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

sense.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm literally writing a paper on somatypes right now. It's completely retarded someone used to think this was a legitimate theory

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Make sure to spell it somatotype, I messed that up.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

On Heath-Carter and Sheldon somatotyping? People still use these correlative methods. What have you come up with that states otherwise?

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Good advice, however somatypes were largely discredited because the author was racist and antisemitic, and thus imprinted a lot of his ->

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Down voted because...?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

People are dicks. Well, the big muscly ones are. Us skinny folk are just devious schemers.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Personal ideology into his theory. I.e. ectomorphs are devious and scheming, endomorphs are lazy etc. What I find most interesting about->

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The essence of the theory is it's really one of the only studies attempting to link physiology to psychology.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sauce? Is this on Heath-Carter and Sheldon somatotyping?

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

http://www.age-of-the-sage.org/psychology/sheldon.html here's a decent overview from a quick googling.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It never really made sense to me in school. There can't just be 3 discrete types of body. Also some skinny people gain fat easily.

11 years ago | Likes 221 Dislikes 1

It never occurred to me that they were considered to be discrete categories defining different points on some kind of physical spectrum.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

The idea isn't 3 types of people, it's 3 distinct *extremes, meaning most people fall somewhere between. I believe the theory originally ->

11 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Thin body type here. I gain decent and defined muscle, but months of gaming and getting older has given me a gut. Metabolisms change, nigga

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What? They have actually taught this shit somewhere? :D

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

True skinny people can't gain fat easy... that's why we're skinny. I eat like a pig because I'm very underweight and I still can't gain.

I can relate to this. When I took a week from swimming i lost 5 pounds

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No, you just eat like shit and not like your goals. Telling yourself anything else is just pointless lies

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

You don't eat like a pig. You consume far less than you think you do - former skinnyman

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I stay skinny because being full makes me nauseous.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Everyone (save for very rare disorders) can gain weight if they eat enough. Period.

11 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

CAN gain weight, but not as easy. I have a friend who ate 2 times his BMR and barely gained weight. Me? I eat my BMR and gain weight. :/

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Right, there are myriad factors that contribute from as simple as your lifestyle to your insulin sensitivity.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That feel when you look like Jack Skellington, even when you sit on your arse all day...

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That is not true. You will gain weight if you eat enough. It's physics.

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Yeah, Ectomorph pretty much described me to a T. I look like a skeleton with a just enough muscle to look normal.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Count calories. You're not eating as much as you think you are, guaranteed.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There is such a thing as, what I call, Skinny Fat. Which are people who look skinny, but the weight they have is mostly fat. That's 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

because the weight they do have is mostly body fat. So you can be 130 with 30% body fat and be "fatter" than someone who is 150 w/20% fat

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah I found the same thing, I've even started calorie counting to see if I was just making up how much I thought I ate, I eat around (1/2)

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

2500 calories per day, but still maintain a body weight of 52-54kg. Funny thing is my strength is increasing dramatically via gym

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I noticed I would eat 2500+ if I was watching it, otherwise probably closer to 2000 than 2500, on average.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

2500 calories just isn't a lot. The 2000 calorie guideline throws people off; to gain weight, I eat between 3500-4500 a day.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

gotta keep increasing the calories. It's surprisingly hard to truly find a maintainance amount so start from there and up it 500 every

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If you aren't increasing bodyweight, add another 500 calories and make sure 55% of your calories are carbs, 30% protein, 15% good fats.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

How do I know which body type I am if I'm not totally ripped?

11 years ago | Likes 1290 Dislikes 11

Depends on your weight gain and natural strength

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

agreed, that's a dumb graphic

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

Or if I'm a girl...

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Become a guy and get fit, stop being so lazy.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The body types are pretty irrelevant and have largely been discredited by research. EVERYONE responds well to weight training w/ good diet.

11 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 3

with vigouris cardio i lose my 20 pound coat. But weight training just makes me bigger. I neever lose the fat

They're generalizations. Simply put- if you're a skinny guy, probably ecto. Fat guy, probably endo. But again, it's hand-wavey bullshit.

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

It's also a triangle. Each one at one point. You can be more than one of them, but dominantly one of them, usually.

Work on your chest and butt to make your body seem more hourglass like.

Somatypes (mesomorph, ectomorph, etc) are a discredited theory. Ignore that bit.

11 years ago | Likes 1126 Dislikes 10

Really? I've found it to be fairly true in many cases.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

The whole somatype theory wasn't discredited, just the temperament association. I can definitely recognize those bodies when I see them

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I dunno, I think there's an element of truth to it. Obviously some people gain muscle easier and some struggle to lose fat more, but...

11 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 4

I dunno, I shed fat easy and build muscle easy... got good genes... and I use them...

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I never said there weren't people who could gain muscle and lose fat easily, did I? Just said people vary.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Not necessarily, just that no individual generally falls into just one category

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

You need to be upvoted higher and not hidden in another thread.

11 years ago | Likes 101 Dislikes 2

I did not know this. Has it been replaced?

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

... it's on a sliding scale and defining it by three different types is kinda dumb.

11 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

Though knowing about where you stand on that scale can be helpful if you put a little thought into it.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is so weird, my body behaves and responds just like the endorphins category says tho... and I have a friend is pure ectomorph... but..

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How is it discredited? No everyone is fat without going to the gym. Not everyone is is capable of eating anything they want and not gaining.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

*Somatotype, but yes, you're right.

Thanks. Studying psychology at the moment (yes, that's where the idea comes from) and this was one of the first things we learned.

As in, that the theory exists but was discredited.

can you elaborate? I'm interested (Hi interested I'm yes very good but really I gotsta know!) Thanks :)

Uh, I'm really at the beginning and we were going through all sorts of psychology history. Google "Somatype", I can't teach you half that.

The fact that it was originally theorized as personality indicators and then it somehow worked its way into fitness blows me away.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Well it's quite obvious if you think about it. People always bang on their "slow" or "fast" metabolisms so this fits perfectly.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not that I don't believe you, but do you have some sauce? You're not the first one I see mentionning it.

Wikipedia! It's actually spelled somatotypes.

how do I know my body type if I have female genitalia?

11 years ago | Likes 61 Dislikes 2

bodybuilding.com has a quiz for females

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have female genitalia, but I'm a trans dude. I have known for several years that I'm endo on how my body reacts to training, food etc.

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Is it just me, or is every single trans with female genitalia an endomorph?

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's just you. I know several people who is ecto and mesomo.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

11 years ago | Likes 46 Dislikes 4

oh really? are you a trainer? that is SO nice of you!!!!!

11 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

I actually am a trainer. I wouldn't base your body type off these criteria. Its more of a sliding scale and very depending on your genetics

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Actually, if you're into climbing or mountain biking maybe I could help. Or maybe you're better than me already.
