The medical staff were almost instantly intervening with CPR, and the eventual use of an AED. He is in stable condition at a hospital now. This was the dads trip for the Blues, so his father Dan Bouwmeester was with him on the way to the hospital.

These images show how even though they are separate teams, the are family.

Both teams gather together

And a Duck player even gives a hug to a Blues player

Cardiac episode. Still scary though

Hopefully it was there with medical staff besides him !

Everyone one in hockey is a fierce competitor until they need to be a brotherhood

I hope the best for that player!

Speedy recovery to you Jay!

'These images show how even though they are separate teams, the are family.'... as opposed to 'HAHA fucker had heart attack. We gonna WIN!'

It's unfortunate, but I doubt he returns. 18th season, middle of 1 year contract, won a cup last year. Just might be time to hang the hat.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well shit. Hope he gets back to full health. Good that he had all those people with him.

I cried. I haven’t cried that much during a game since Pronger was hit in the chest by a puck and collapsed.

I was on a soccer game in 2005 when the same happened too.. unfortunately the player died.. it was surreal..

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Is this possibly linked to.steroids

I remember when Jiri Fischer of the Red Wings had a medical emergency on the bench....he just dropped like a sack of flower off the bench

6 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

I will never forget that game. I've never seen The Joe so silent, filled with people.

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Dang that's scary. Always loved J-Bo when he was a flame. Hoping for a speedy recovery

You can't really hate the other team. You played with a few of their guys in Junior. You might be on their team next year.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

To his health!

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was watching the game when this happened. Hoping for a speedy recovery for Jay!!

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A human's life is on the line. I don't think anyone cares what team they play for at this point.

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

You can't be serious. Tribalism leads way too many to literally hate "the enemy" even for something as trivial as a game. :(

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 6

No hockey player wants to see someone dead for fuck sake. Of course they gather together. They're human, not monsters. He's only 36....

TIL a mans life is more important than team rivalry

The st louis blues didnt say it was a heart attack. https://www.instagram.com/p/B8dIREgIa_5/?igshid=19wxefkjinmz1

ThEy DiDn'T sAy It WaS a HeArT aTtAcK... He "suffered a cardiac episode & collapsed" the distinction is irrelevant, unless u'r treating him!

Lol! 100%... thanks for the reminder. I'm at a real funky part of my life and I need to heed this message more than ever. Woosahhh.

"Making sports make you in a better shape and extent your life" - Fuck you.

Good thing that it happened when it did I guess. If it happened in his sleep he would have probably slept through it and never woke up.

6 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

Had a friend who was in his early 40's go out that way. In great shape. Lived healthy. Went to sleep next to his girl and never woke up.

Young people having heart attacks really freaks me out. I work with someone who had one at 28.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I’m fairly certain that they haven’t said what happened, whether it was a heart attack or other cardiac episode

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Or something else

6 years ago | Likes 0 Dislikes 0

Press release said cardiac episode

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They postponed a fucking nhl game for this. This is serious shit fellas.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 12

No shit?

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Did they stop the game or continue onward because that player would’ve wanted them to continue?

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They postponed the game. I was at this game.

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Good to know and glad that was the decision. Hope he makes a speedy recovery

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

In great shape and only 36 is too young to be dealing with that crap. All the best to Jay and his family. That’s scary shit.

had one last march a month after I turned 50. I am in good shape. To say I am still shook is an understatement. Docs arent worried about why

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I had a massive heart attack at 35. 95% blockage on the widow maker and 100% blockage on the other side. I shouldn't be here.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

True. 36 years old is up there in hockey world tho. It's his 18th season, that's a really long time to be playing in the NHL.

A friend suffered a stroke at age 35.

My dad had a heart attack at work in his 30s

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My brother had a heart attack at 34. But he turned 40 in December! Medication is good sometimes

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

36?? (sweats in terror)

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is scary stuff, I've already suffered two heart attacks, one at 24 and 2nd at 32. 1st one came out of nowhere 2nd I didn't took care.

6 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 1

No kidding. Only 23, already had two and a stroke. Kicked my caffeine addiction to the curb after that, but the hypoglycemia is a bitch.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Likely hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Inherited enlarged heart leading the ventricular arrythmia (which is why the AED was used). Leading 1/2

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

2/2 cause of sudden death syndrome in athletes. He is pretty damn lucky I reckon but might need an implanted cardiac defib.

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 3

So he survived?

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

He’s in the hospital, being monitored and presumably having tests done to find out what happened.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I don't know how popular Football/soccer is in Canada, but it happens regularly in Europe that young (as in, child) football players die (1)

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

when/after training. Same with professional cyclists. Always heartfailure of some sort. Being "young and in great shape" means jack shit (2)

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

you have an undiagnosed hartcondition.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Dude is tough as nails, surprised he didnt come back out for the 3rd

6 years ago | Likes 412 Dislikes 9

They postponed the game.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

They postponed the game. So he couldn’t have anyway, but some of those guys have big nuts and wouldn’t surprise me if he tried.

6 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 1

That’s actually happened before. Same situation and the guy asked to go back to the bench while they were loading him into the ambulance.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Just kidding guys, fuckin relax

6 years ago | Likes 75 Dislikes 21

Nobody’s downvoted you, what are you talking about?

6 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 2

There was 2, perhaps some changed their minds

6 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 3

Oh that's my bad

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I didn't know it was a heart attack. Hope hes good

6 years ago | Likes 108 Dislikes 3

It wasn’t.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

NHL website says "cardiac episode"

6 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

The blues didnt say it was a heart attack and no where does it say that so I have no idea where this person got his information.

6 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 3

I'Seeing everything from "cardiac episode" to straight up "heart attack" on various headlines... so probably from all of those sources.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

A lot of people confuse heart attack with cardiac arrest. Heart attack refers to occlusion of the heart's own blood vessels, causing heart

6 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Muscle damage. Cardiac arrest - heart stops working. Can be caused by many things, a heart attack being one. Not all attacks lead to arrest
