All tortoises are turtles, but not all turtles are tortoises.
lunicow
In American English. The Brits don't use 'turtle' as a catch all term. It's turtle for sea, tortoise for land and terrapin for fresh water.
QuollPatrol
that’s generally how it’s used in america too, but technically they’re all turtles
JokeDestroyer
Scientifically, turtles encompass the entire order.
Scientifically the order is Testudines
ImaginaryMamboNumber5
For some reason this annoys me, but I don't know why. I mean why can't turtles be aquatic and tortoises be land based?
